-Caveat Lector- This has circulated the net a couple of times, and is a hoax... The human body has a few areas that it uses to purge toxins; behind the knees, behind the ears, groin area, and armpits. The toxins are purged in the form of perspiration. This is beyond poor science, it's downright bullshit. The human body 'purges toxins' in many ways, the least effective way it does so is via persperation in the areas listed... Indeed, the whole skin covering one's body is one big organ of elimination...if the body IS 'purging' toxins, it will do so via the WHOLE skin unit, not just selective areas. The reason we perspire is NOT to rid ourselves of toxins (at least not as its primary function), but solely to cool the body. The reason we have decided to use chemicals in certain areas prone to perspiration is due to the fact that when perspiration mixes with bacteria found on the surface of the skin, it creates an odor modern society has deemed unpleasant... Anti-perspirant, as the name clearly indicates, prevents you from perspiring, thereby inhibiting the body from purging toxins from below the armpits. These toxins do not just magically disappear. Instead, the body deposits them in the lymph nodes below the arms since cannot sweat them out. Again, this is bullshit and non-scientific. The lymph nodes are part of the general lymph system which circulates throughout the whole body...toxins do NOT get 'deposited' in the lymph nodes in the manner described...rather, they're part of a bigger system which includes many organs (including the liver, spleen, heart and lungs, and urinary system)... Any toxins in the body will be eliminated via all the organs/systems I listed...the lymph system will pick up toxins via the liver and spleen, and then rid those toxins primarily via the urinary system, with some being rid thru the skin. Again, the WHOLE skin is utilized in this process (and then only in a minor way), not just the armpits. If for some reason the skin cannot excrete these toxins, then the lymph system will just carry them back to the urinary system to be excreted in that manner... Nearly all breast cancer tumors occur in the upper outside quadrant of the breast area. This is precisely where the lymph nodes are located. That's not to say there aren't potential health hazards to using antiperspirants...but the hazard is in the aluminum found in the majority of antiperspirants, which is rarely found in plain deodorants... I wish I had known it 14 years ago. ___ I just got information from a health seminar that I would like to share... The leading cause of breast cancer is the use of antiperspirant. What? A concentration of toxins leads to cell mutations: a.k.a. CANCER. Yes, ANTI-PERSPIRANT. Most of the products out there are an anti-perspirant/deodorant combination, so go home and check. Women who apply antiperspirant right after shaving increase the risk further be! cause shaving causes almost imperceptible nicks in the skin which give the chemicals entrance into the body from the armpit area. PLEASE pass this along to anyone you care about. Breast cancer is becoming frighteningly common. This awareness may save lives.
