Subject: A great victory for natural health consumers

Here's the latest from Minnesota

Lynn:

Monday, March 20th was an historic day for consumers of health care in
America. The Freedom of Access to Complementary and Alternative Health
Care Bill in Minnesota took two giant strides toward success:

In the Senate, the bill was voted on and passed by a margin of 47 to 13!

In the House, our bill, which was article 3 in a large omnibus bill, was
challenged and survived. Rep. Mulder proposed an amendment to delete our
entire bill from the omnibus bill. After a lively and passionate debate,
the
amendment was resoundingly defeated, 111 to 18! The rest of the omnibus
bill was debated at length and finally approved in its entirety at 2:30 in
the morning!

Actually, in both the House and Senate, there was long and passionate debate
on the Complementary and Alternative Health Care Freedom of Access Bill.
After the last few months of hard work on the nuts and bolts of minute areas
of the bill in committee, this debate was different. It actually went back
to the whole concept of alternative health care in general. It centered on
the advances of modern conventional medicine vs the ancient and time-honored
healing arts. It explored the issues of safety and the rights of consumers
to have options when it comes to their own health care. It was, in a word,
dramatic. Fortunately, the debates were videotaped, and we will be able to
get a copy of them for posterity.

We owe many thanks to the legislators who stepped forward on the floor and
advocated articulately for our bill. In the Senate debate, many thanks to
our author, Senator Twyla Ring, and to Senators Deanna Wiener, Michelle
Fischbach, Linda Berglin, Sandra Pappas, Gary Laidig, and John Hottinger. In
the House, hats off to our author Rep. Lynda Boudreau, and to
Representatives
Kris Hasskamp, Phil Carruthers, Dave Bishop, and Matt Entenza.

It would be great if you sent each of them an email to thank them. Here's
how you do it:

other senators are the same address, just start with sen. and their own
name.

other reps are the same address, just change the name.

Its not over yet. The bill now goes to conference committee to reconcile
differences in the two versions. Then it comes back to the floor of the
House and Senate for final approval. Then it goes to our governor for his
signature.

We are elated that our lawmakers have recognized the importance of this
concept, and we will continue to work hard at the Capitol to ensure that the
best of each version will go into the final product.

Stay tuned for further developments - Jerri Johnson
