The purpose is to widen the scope or governmental control and to multiply the power of the government. The government grows stronger and the individual citizens gets weaker because government gains control by stealing power from it's citizens. Our Constitution was designed to prevent this, but obviously isn't working because government grows stronger every day. Rather than attacking the government we attack each other and try to affix "blame" for the ills of our society on different groups ... blacks against whites, poor against rich, Democrats vs Republicans, religion, abortion, homosexuality, war, the environment, free energy, petroleum, housing, education, immigration, language and dozens of others. Government can be defeated and made to toe the line, but first we have to stop squabbling amongst ourselves; this is a very hard thing to do and we all get caught up in the fray. Perhaps homosexuals are looking at bringing down the BSA, but that would be no differently looked at then a Jewish or Black foundation trying to take down the KKK. If the BSA continues their discriminatory practices it will have to rely on internal funding rather than other organizations, and you know what that is their choice to not grow up with the rest of the organizations like the United Way. The government does not have to give money to the states since each state has things that it advocates would be a good reason to vacation there or to have your business there. Not everyone gets the same tax deduction. When I was in home business I was able to take deductions for my yard care. (the business was child care) What the Boy Scouts advocate are the basic attitudes that were part of this society when you were required to have manners, or else be called out to a duel. And by the way, private citizens ARE members of the public too. And if the homosexual members of the land wanted to start their own private group then I'd be damned well fighting for their allowed use of public facilities. Personally I couldn't care less if the BSA was a ONLY homosexual group! They should still be able to go to the park, forest, campground...whatever...just as you and I can enjoy. Every "public" school I've ever been in has very prominent signs to the effect of: " Visitors must report to the office. Trespassers will be prosecuted" How does one trespass on public property? You can't. Therefore in a public school it is called public because members of the public may attend it. But as I illustrate with the example of the school sign previously, the edifice itself is not a public place. My complaints about the demonization of the BSA is about the TRUE public places. Take Nat'l parks for example, they are truly public not pseudo-public like a public school. That's what gets my ire up. I could care less about any schools that quit supporting the BSA. What is more common is that the Boy Scouts have been allowed to use local public schools for their meetings at no cost, and some states like Massachusetts are now questioning continuing this policy. It comes down to the fact that public facilities -- whether a park or a local school, should be accessible to THE PUBLIC, which includes people of ALL races, faiths, sexual orientation. If a group wishing to utilize public facilities excludes anyone based on race, faith, or sexual orientation, then they should not be allowed use of such public facilities (or be given public funds)...and that includes not only the BSA, but any religious group be it a weekly Catholic catechism class (as was done in my public elementary school back when I attended), Wiccans, or Satanists. It's not a distortion to suggest the government is involved in an overt conspiracy to deny the BSA of their Supreme Court upheld constitutional liberties. The court is of the government yes but why then is Clinton so eager to pursue non-judicial methods to get around that particular branch of the government in an effort to impose his vision on the BSA? It is not necessary for every department and sub-department of the government to be explicitly or even implicitly involved for there to be a government led conspiracy.
