NY Conservative Chairman Calls for Congressional Investigation of
SEC Leak
DATELINE: FORT HAMILTON STATION, N.Y.
The following was released today by the New York State
Conservative Party:
Michael R. Long, State Chairman of the New York State
Conservative Party, called on Congress to investigate what
appears to be a felonious leak regarding the investigation by the
Securities and Exchange Commission into the stock purchases made
by Congressman Rick Lazio.
The Clinton Administration's Securities and Exchange
Commission, responding to a Clinton supporter, launched an
investigation and then leaked it to the news media. A leak
regarding an investigation is a felony.
The investigation appears to be purely political and possibly
aimed at deflecting the findings regarding Hillary Clinton's roll
in the White House travel office firings apparently due to be
released soon.
While the Justice Department should be taking the lead on
investigating the leak, we believe Congress must be the body to
oversee such an investigation. Attorney General Janet Reno, a
political appointee of President Clinton, has been unable up to
this point to be objective when investigating her peers.
