How right you are! They can manage ten (10) Bingo cards at one time but are
completely stumped by a routine ballot like the one used THIS election in
Cook County, IL, S.C and several other states.

[CTRL] Poll Worker Announces Giving Gore supporters Second Ballots

2000-11-09 Thread Amelia

-Caveat Lector-

Did anyone else see the poll worker on MSNBC today tell of giving a second
ballot, all day long, to any Gore supporter who became "confused" by the
controversial ballot? She was an older woman with bright red
shoulder-length hair being interviewed by a female reporter.

I have never known of a poll worker to take it upon themselves to do such a
thing. Who authorized this and is it legal? More importantly, what
happened to their original ballots? Were they destroyed or is this some of
the mystery votes materializing out of thin air? could it be the "locked"
boxes and baskets of abandoned votes?

The more I hear, the more I realize this will never be settled to the
satisfaction of either party. Ballots where I vote are counted and matched
against the list of voters who sign in to vote. How could this possibly be
done if this woman, who many be but one of many, is passing them out right
and left to anybody who says they are confused and might have messed up
their ballot?

One other thing does puzzle me--the "confused" voters in Palm Beach County/
These are retirees, mostly from the northeast. This is the first time I
have ever heard one of these 'sweet' senior citizens who did not know
everything because they are from New York City or New Jersey or wherever.
Being next door, we have a fair number of them settling along the Gulf Coast
in this state, too, and this is the first time I have ever heard one that
did not know everything!! It is from them that I learned a high school
diploma from "up north" is better than a Ph.D. down here and now these poor,
old folks cannot even read. That ballot was used in other states where
folks managed so I am just a tad confused.

Oh, well, just so they got to vote for the person of their choice, it does
not matter how many times. Maybe some became confused over and over and
received ballot after ballot. One elderly gent said he fought the Japanese
for the right to vote. Let's give him at least three ballots for that.

And that Carlson woman--forgot her first name--saying "Do we really want a
bunch of tax-evades deciding who is President?" referring to the military
absentee voters. Heard her on Imus back-peddling saying she meant the
Cayman Islands and could not tell them from Florida. I guess to a liberal
if it has palm trees, it is close enough. Anyone that stupid should just
keep their mouth shut and I predict she will wish that she had done so.
These weenies will whine until the NWO poster child, Gore, is elected. I am
certainly glad I am an Independent. Whichever one is elected is going to be
despised by the other half of the country. No one who believes 6 million
people can vote and it end in a tie should also consider purchasing some
real estate in the Florida "wetlands."

I don't know how it is in Fla. but in Tx. you have a right to three
ballots...you give them the one you messed up one and they give you
another...it's the law, not a scam...

ROTFL
But, I must say, my Mom (who is not a retiree), but is from the
northeast (Boston), was not confused at all at the poll...
She said there wasn't a problem with the ballot...
as far as she saw.

(And tho' she wouldn't tell me who she voted for,
I have a sneakin' suspicion she's a Gore supporter...)

I have to agree with her, that there are special interest groups that
just wanted to see this election surely fall to Gore, and those interest
groups created a big to-do over this, more than needed to be.
And jftr, she doesn't like to play BINGO...

So, please don't stereotype ALL
Palm Beach residents and make
them sound like they're the
"Alzheimer's out to Lunch Bunch".

-Caveat Lector-

Many confused elderly voters apparently had trouble with their ballots in the US
elections. Personally I don't see why people who can't even figure out how to fill out
a ballot paper should be allowed to vote for anything anyhow. I'm a big believer in
having basic intelligence tests for humanoids who want to vote. Maybe a minimum IQ of
100 or so before you're allowed to vote. A move towards a meritocracy.
