RE: Cygwin/X 1.7 keyboard/mouse freeze shortly after Xwin login to Solaris

2010-03-01 Thread Bennett, Tony
I just finished trying 1.7.5-1 trying to connect to an AIX server.
Here's how I'm starting it from a .bat file:

 bash -c PATH=$PATH:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin; XWin -logverbose 255 -ac
-query \
  aix_server_name -fp
\tcp/aix_server_name:8000,/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/,/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/share/fonts/Type1/\

I performed the same test as Mark Veneziano performed (click up-triangle on one
of the panels to get my terminal icon...)
and got the same results.

In case it helps, here is the contents of my /var/log/XWin.0.log, which
you will notice I had logging verbose-ly:

Parenthetically, I am currently using XMING due to this problem,
but would like to go back to using cygwin-X.

If any X11-developer would like to give me a debug version of
xorg-server to try capture the location of the problem, I would be
assist.

fvwm2 and startxwin

2010-03-01 Thread Stephen More
I have read: http://x.cygwin.com/docs/ug/using.html

I have figured out how to run fvwm2 using startx in windowed mode.

But how can I run startxwin with fvwm2 ?
If I put fvwm2 inside of .startxwinrc I get:

[FVWM][CatchRedirectError]: ERROR another WM is running

-Thanks

Let me ask this question to clarify things:

multiwindow mode (startxwin) -- Is this the same thing as --rootless

I read the thread, and there is alot about changing .xinitrc to add a
window manager.
But I did not read how to add a window manager to .startxwinrc or a parameter.

I need to run fvwm rootless like:

No.

You can't. Read again.

I need to run fvwm rootless like:
 http://x.cygwin.com/screenshots/cygx-rootless-fvwm2-20031224-0010.png

Then run rootless, not multiwindowed.

If my responses seem curt, it is because I am concerned you won't have
the attention span to get through them. Over the next several years, please
try to get all the way through the FAQ:

Start the x server using 'startx -- -rootless' and start fvwm2 from your

not end with an '')

If you aren't interested in starting other programs from your .xinintrc, you
can just do 'startx fvwm2 -- -rootless' for the all in one solution :-)

Oops. I mean 'startx /usr/bin/fvwm2 -- -rootless'

(as man xinit says, the client supplied to startx or xinit must begin with /
or ., otherwise it's treated as client arguments to the default xterm)

Re: Problem running Xwin.exe in Windows 7

2010-03-01 Thread Babak Fallah
Dear Madam/Sir,

I upgraded my OS from Windows XP to Windows 7 and installed the
Cygwin/X but have problem running Xwin.exe in the new OS. Since it was
running well in XP I changed the compatibility to Windows XP but it
didn't help (my computer does not have Hardware-Assisted
Virtualization so I can not run virtual machine on my PC). I was
wondering if there is any way to fix the problem and run the Xwin.exe
in Windows 7.

The error window says:
--
A fatal error has happened and Cygwin/X will now exit.
Please open /var/log/XWin.0.log for more information.

Vendor: The Cygwin/X project.
Release 1.7.5.0 (10705000)
contact: cygwin-xfree@cygwin.com
Build date: 2010-02-25

X-Win was started with the following command line:
(null)
-

Thanks,
Babak Fallah

BZZT! Oh, I'm sorry. That was the wrong answer. :-)

Please read and follow the problem reporting guidelines found here:

Problem reports: http://cygwin.com/problems.html

Also take a look at the FAQ for Cygwin-X and the recent archives.
Many of the common problems have been hashed out there already
and some good information is available to help you solve problems
like this. If you're still not finding any joy, then make sure
to provide a full problem report to the Cygwin-X list so that we
know what you did and how your machine is configured. Remember,
any files that you send should be *attached* and not appended to
any follow-up email.

A: Yes.
 Q: Are you sure?
A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation.
Q: Why is top posting annoying in email?
