[datameet] Re: India NCAP – Landcover Classification Between 1992 and 2020 !!

2022-02-22 Thread Sarath Guttikunda
https://urbanemissions.info/india-air-quality/india-ncap-landcover-classification/

This repository presents a summary of landcover (LC) classification for 132
Indian cities under NCAP. The raw data is available from European Space
Agency (ESA)’s Climate Change Initiative (CCI) program, which delivers a
new time series of 24 consistent classification maps at 300 m spatial
resolution on an annual basis for 1992-2020. In the animations, 24 classes
were clubbed into 5 categories for simplification. Global database can be
viewed here https://maps.elie.ucl.ac.be/CCI/viewer/index.php and downloaded
here https://maps.elie.ucl.ac.be/CCI/viewer/download.php.

For all the cities under NCAP, data is extracted for a box of 0.4 x 0.4
degrees (~40km x 40km) with the city's GIS centroid in the middle, to
demonstrate the change in the major landcover classifications. This data
acts as a proxy for (a) the rate of urbanization (b) the growing demand for
construction material and (c) the growing demand for commercial and
residential amenities.

In the repository, both animations and cut shapefiles are available for
download.

 Good morning.

 I came across this site -- https://geosadak-pmgsy.nic.in/opendata --
with shapefiles by state for Bound_Block, Habitations, Facilities,
Road_DRRP, and Proposals. We have to download one state and one layer at a
 time.

Wondering if anyone from the group made an India composite of these
layers? Or if this is already on datameet repo, please share the link.

 Appreciate it.
 With best wishes,

 Sajjad and Arun,

Thanks for your replies. I have looked into using OSM as a source, but
I need accurate temporal data. As OSM is user generated, changes to the map
do not necessarily represent the actual date of construction. Changes are
only recorded when a user notices a road has changed, and because PMGSY is
a rural program, these road (most of which are under 1km) are often not
 recorded.

But maybe I'm missing something. I'll look into it again. Maybe I'll
write a grant to hire some folks to go through these OSM files and match
them to the 1+ lakh PMGSY projects.

 Again, thanks for your input.

I was going to write a longer blog post this week, Dev :)

 The short answer is:

DataMeet is one of the parties signing MoU as a community partner.

DataMeet's role will be to suggest changes to datasets if required,
help the open data community use data, and create how-tos. Take the
feedback to send it to them with our suggestions.

We are going to sign a non-commercial MOU with them. I will share the
copy once I have the final version and the blog post that I am thinking
 about.

 The initial dataset would include.
 - Data for 10 lakh habitations
 - 25+ lakh km rural roads
 - 50,000+ km of PMGSY-III proposals

Data will be released under Government's Open Data License.

We are yet to get the complete picture of all the datasets and details
of it. But that's the work we will do as part of this community
 engagement.
Feb 22 is just the day to kick start it.

[datameet] API wrappers for R and Python for ease of access of data.gov.in

2022-02-22 Thread Abhishek Arora
Dear All,

My colleague and I developed API wrappers back in 2021 to access APIs
easily within R and Python environments (on both CRAN and PyPi - actively
maintained). This should be an easy access route for those intimidated by
the use of APIs. The wrapper itself can be used to simplify code in
applications that need to call in these API.

An excerpt from the readme for those interested :

*datagovindia* is a wrapper of around >100,000 APIs of the Government of
India’s open data platform data.gov.in .
Primarily, the functionality is centered around three aspects :

   - *API discovery* - Finding the right API from all the available APIs
   - *API information* - Getting information about a particular API
   - *Querying the API* - Getting a tidy data set from the chosen API

Here are the relevant repos (which also have the associated documentation):

1) Python : Github / PyP
I
2) R : Github / CRAN

Since our release, our time during our day jobs didn't allow us to make an
effort to publicize this work much beyond Twitter. We hope that you can all
add to the packages' functionalities and report any issues/ feature
wishlist to us.
