Re: [datameet] Feedback on app on Crime Data in India

2016-04-24 Thread Venkatraman S
Good initiative. I tried it as well. The biggest problem I stumbled
on(pointed by you) was structured data as well. The dataset on NCRB is
still around 2014 and there is no latest info spanning the last few years.

Something that I did a few years back :
http://indiatogether.org/gender-gap-wef-and-crimes-against-women-ncrb-women

I would recommend that
- you do not have pre-built charts, but let the queries be dynamic which
would let the user choose different types of attributes and see the
trend(s) based on the query. Ability to cross-correlate is lost in the case
of pre-built biz.
- Also, you can have a dedicated section, which highlights some of the
jarring patterns as observed - this section can be prebuilt.

Is anyone associated with this? Am interested in how they collect data.

The information provided seems to be highly accurate, with an added
dimension missing in our census. The global map present in the website

interesting and also accurate !!

Honestly, I was quiet startled when I stumbled on this website.

I read the whole email, and then saw this. Sigh!

 1. I was thinking this email might be spam until Venkat unearthed some
 value in it!

There was no value in it. I just felt that:
a. This was another business model, IMHO.
b. The guys posting are supposed to be PhDs as seen from their signature. I
felt sorry for their alma mater.
c. I see money being mentioned all throughout the email, without any
mention of the infrastructure that they are planning to create or have
already created.
d. They mention housewives to be made as teachers. I hope that was a typo
:) No mention of teachers training etc?
e. reminds me of this comedy scene :

2. Can an idea be copyrighted??

We have done our Math. We are open minded people, if you have suggestion
to improvise, you can share your thoughts to us.

It was funny to see the statement actually, as if no one else had tried
this or should try this. And i am still looking for the 'idea' :) Oh well,
not to mention the mutually complementary statements - why would i give you
my thoughts if you are going to copyright it :P

'take control of things' - seriously? Probably they are missing that such a
system would work only if decentralized :)

Nwayz,lets OT be OT.
