This is wonderfully done, and was very informative to know more about my
representatives. eg
https://www.nextelection.com/public-personas/541/pc-mohan/detailed

It would be great for third party sites to link to nextelection for more
info about existing members. Whats a good way to link to a page directly
with information about a constituency?

Hi Folks,

Arun got a bunch of us teamed up and we're working on a mobile-friendly
webpage that will give all the info.

This email is regarding *polling phases and dates. *

Our query system does get dates, but I found them inaccurate for one
constituency. The dates data was sourced from http://www.elections.in and
apparently needs a re-check.

Here is ECI's official website carrying notifications:

If you click through, you can get the english language docs for the four
phases. (phase 1 is same doc, english starts from pg.10)

As usual, they're PDF scans, but some of the text is selectable.

If someone has a clean (and accurate!) table of the constituencies and
their polling dates, please share?
Or, if someone has time to spare, can you help us to check our data against
the ECI notifications and fix any mistakes?

You can contact me on email (nikhil.js [at] gmail.com) or phone
(9665831250). Thanks in advance!

PS: There are other news sites also headlining this stuff, but when you see
the content, you'd rather check the official sources.

Re: [datameet] Re: Parliamentary constituency boundaries 2019

2019-04-04 Thread Arun Ganesh
Hey everyone, have created a public API to find the parliamentary and
assembly constituency at any given coordinate, along with the election date.

Try it out:
https://api.mapbox.com/v4/planemad.3picr4b8/tilequery/*78.0714,32.2263*
.json?limit=5=0=true_token=pk.eyJ1IjoicGxhbmVtYWQiLCJhIjoiY2p1MzBiMGtzMGF1NTRkanR6eXdkOGg5MiJ9.vuDqyahjLB1Bk_5bGp2YUw

Replace the longitude, latitude part to any other coordinate within India.
Let me know if there are any errors.

How it was done:
- Uploaded the electoral boundaries from datameet
 to Mapbox to
create a vector tileset

- Use the Mapbox tilequery API

to query features within the tileset

Note: The API call uses my personal access token, consider signing up for a
free Mapbox account and replacing with your own token if you plan any heavy
usage.

Constituency boundaries are shown differently in multiple sources. The
Datameet dataset is good for Rural constituencies, but not accurate in case
of Urban areas.
I had inquired for those datasets to MapMyIndia but the cost they quoted
was exorbitant. and accuracy was not too good either. Maharashtra
boundaries are shown here in MSRAC portal(Choose "Electoral" in base layer
and zoom in)
http://mrsac.maharashtra.gov.in/geoportal/
If someone is successful in extracting the shapefiles from this, Please let
me know.
If anyone wants to collaborate on data viasualization project on Indian
Elections, Feel free to connect.
