Re: Debian and Orca installation Question
Hi All, Thank you. What can I do when the kernel in Debian stable (even with non-free firmware-supported net-install image) not support the integrated Wi-Fi card of my notebook? How can be easy to create net-install media with pached-kernel to support it? The Wi-Fi card name is: MediaTek MT7921 Best regards: Egon
installing debian with speech, debian testing can not get passed scanning installation media
hello fellow debian fans, is it just my computer or is anyone experiencing the same thing. due to how new my system is I have to use testing as stable does not work with my hardware regardless of if I use non free. heres the problem, I download the latest snapshot, the last I tested was october, and the testing snapshots get updated once a week, basically what happens is you select a language and keyboard then wait for the network dialogue, when it says scanning installation media, it gets stuck and speech stops working, not sure if this has been fixed, but this doesn't happen when installing the bookworm alpha images, but I would still like to be tracking testing once bookworm becomes stable

The scripts used in Debian are here: https://salsa.debian.org/a11y-team/brltty/-/tree/master/debian/initramfs some bits are debian-specific (e.g. multiarch path), but most of it should be generic enough. You can use the firmware-enabled netinst image: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/11.5.0+nonfree/amd64/iso-cd/firmware-11.5.0-amd64-netinst.iso Samuel

Hello, Below the response to a message from Samuel which didn't reach the list because it had been posted to an older address. Special thanks to Samuel for his help in this. Two remarks: 1. Practically, the ability to embed BRLTTY in initramfs means that one becomes able to have an encrypted hard drive and to have braille support for entering the passphrase to access it. 2. As suggested by Samuel privately, it may be suitable to have the support for embedding BRLTTY in initramfs upstreamed so that this feature becomes available in all distributions, especially in the context of being able to encrypt ones hard drive. Sébastien.
