Re: UDMA66 boot problem/HPT370
To install debian potato on an abit kt7-raid motherboard: (well, this is what I roughly did) 1 Connect your disk to the first ide controller, not to the HTP370 controller 2 I used the debian/dists/potato/main/disks-i386/ 2.2.20.0.1-2000-12-03/images-1.44/idepci disk set 3 boot and install as usual 4 download and unpack kernel/v2.2/linux-2.2.18.tar.gz 5 download and apply patch kernel/people/hedrick/ ide.2.2.18.1209.patch.gz 6 make menuconfig - Block devices: [*]Generic PCI IDE chipset support ... [*] HPT366 chipset support Don't know about theese two but they seem to work for me [*]HPT366 Fast Interrupt support (WIP) [*]HPT366 mode three unsupported (WIP) (Note! this driver has no raid support, you just get the udma100 support and two more controllers, only connect discs to hpt controller) and whatever else you want in the kernel 7 make dep; make bzImage; make modules; make modules_install 8 cp arch/.../bzImage System.map to /boot 9 add new image to lilo.conf with root=/dev/hdexx instead of hda 10 run lilo 11 change hda to hde in /etc/fstab 12 shutdown -h now 13 poweroff 14 move disk cable to first HPT370 connector 15 boot Regards, /Karl --- Karl HammarAspö Data [EMAIL PROTECTED] Lilla Aspö 2340 +46 173 140 57Networks S-742 94 Östhammar +46 70 511 97 84 Computers Sweden Consulting --- -- From: "Alexander Sawallich" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: UDMA66 boot problem/HPT370 Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 21:46:46 +0100 When I try installing Debian 2.2r2 on my HPT370 Raid/UDMA100 controller, with the UDMA66 boot floppies, the system halts during the boot process. ... ... I'm faced with a near identical problem using the HPT 370 on-board controller with a 2theMax BX7 +100 motherboard (actually with five of them). So I'll be interested to see the solution if/when you get one. Regards Jon Branch ... -- From: "Alexander" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: UDMA66 boot problem/HPT370 Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 23:18:15 +0100 I´m desperate to install debian eventhough it doesn´t seem to work with me. I had Suse installed a year ago, but I don´t want to put up with there funny rc.config-thingy any more. It seems that my onboard HPT370 controller should be supported on the udma66 floppies. I just got unlucky and so it doesn´t work. I already received a few replies by some other KT7 owners indicating that I´m not alone. I can boot into the setup assistant just fine from the regular 2.2r2 CD, but then I have no harddisk. There´s an option in the setup menu that lets you load modules from floppy, and I tried loading something from the UDMA66 driver1-4 disks, but then I only got an error telling me that the system is unable to mount the floppy (???). Also I´m not so sure if there´s a useful driver on those disks anyhow. When I boot from the udma66 floppies it just stops half way (see description below) . I really don´t know what more to do. Maybe I could boot from the CD by supplying a bunch of boot parameters, describing my disk. So if you have a clue what I (and many others) could do I would really appreciate if you send me a reply. Under Windows the HPT370 controller(ide2 ide3 ( counting from 0)) seems to run as a scsi device. If you need any information youst ask me. Thanks a lot. Re: test boot-floppies (2.2.21) for m68k available

Will feed those changes into CVS if I get some feedback. Its working fine on my Amiga. Christian -- http://people.debian.org/~cts/ OK, I'm trying this on 2 different Amigas. I'm not very knowledgeable where the Amiga is concerned. Neither Amiga has any network capability and I don't have a driver for CD. So I removed the hard disks and attached them to a Mac running Debian Potato. I then ran insmod for partbl_amiga and affs. This allowed me to mount an AFFS partition on the drive. I then extracted the files from bf-amiga_2.2.21_m68k.tar.gz to the mounted AFFS partitions. I then reinstalled the hard drives in the respective Amigas. The Amigas are as follows: Amiga 2000 w/CSA Derringer 030 accelerator w/16MB fast RAM and 1MB chip RAM a GVP HC+8 SCSI controller w/ 105MB and 1GB hard drives. Amiga 3000 w/8MB fast RAM and 2 MB chip RAM, 105MB and 540MB SCSI drives attached to onboard SCSI. I get the following when clicking the StartInstall icon on either Amiga: EXECUTE: Invalid directive Error -1 Am I missing something, or is the install image bad? -- Ray Knight [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". ppp/dhcp into cvs?
I wonder if it makes sense to import the ppp and dhcp packages that debian-installer will use into the debian-installer cvs tree. Rational is: -ppp maintainer relates that he can't work on Debian at the present time, so a udeb comes out of a NMU in any case. -I'm in the nm-queue so I can't actually upload anything, though I can commit to cvs, this way I don't have to look for a sponsor for anything, anyone can build the latest udeb out of cvs (it remains to be seen how much dhcpcd and ppp will have to change, probably not much, we'll see). -wouldn't it be nice to have all the componants that will potentially be on that magical single floppy in one place? -David -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". graphical frontend committed (preliminary)
I've got a rough sketch of the framebuffer based frontend in CVS now - it requires libbogl-dev to build. Get the one in incoming if you do it before dinstall on the 27th. Must be run as root, obviously, since it hammers on the framebuffer. Oh, and currently you'll need helvR10.bdf from the bogl source package in your current directory when you run it. I'll fix that in a future release, once I have a better idea what font to use as standard. Currently, it can handle note, string, multiselect, and boolean questions - enough to get a feel for it. The interface on booleans is wrong - I want to use two radio buttons, but that means adding a widget to bogl. I'll do that in a few days. I don't really like the multiselects, either, but I'll think about that too. I'm strongly considering a more extensible widget architecture for bogl, at the risk of a little bloat. Comments on the code are welcome, and especially comments on the interface. Does anyone know a good way to draw disabled-looking text? And do people think that rounder-looking buttons would be worth the effort? Any better preferences for fonts? I made one change to the mouse handling code - if GPM is running, or if the unified mouse driver is present and has at least one mouse, we skip the mouse detection and use what we have. Does this sound ok? I know that what this means for my laptop is that the trackpad won't work; I could easily try for PS/2 also before feeling the need to put up a progress bar, since probing the serial ports is the only really time consuming bit.
