English, the manual should probably considered frozen?
This has unfortunately not been propagated before though.
Can the last changes be reverted?

I just discovered, that the d-i manual still lists hppa as
release architecture (chapter 2.1.1).
This is no longer true (since squeeze already).

Should that be corrected? (should be possible without help
from translators. The summary lists eleven architectures,
while the table contains twelve, so when we drop hppa from
the table, the summary is again true ;-) )

If I'm correct, Samuel changed translations accordingly.

Anyway, unfortunately, the installation manual is something we only
care about at release time. So, as always, last minutes changes are
possible (and often really needed).

So, I think we should call a soft freeze, meaning that changes
should be discussed in -boot beforehand.

Also, remember that Samuel is the de facto installation manual
release manager mostly because only him cared about it since Frans
left us

(and all this makes your own contribution even more useful, Holger, as
we now have another person taking care of the install manual..:-))

Right. In this case, it is a new paragraph, which thus at worse does not
appear in the translations (xml case), or appears in english (po case).
So I'd tend to think that it can't hurt to have it in?

D-I Manual - String freeze / Call to update translations (deadline: Nov 10)

2008-10-26 Thread Frans Pop
As nobody else seems willing to do this, I've decided to take care of the
upload of the manual myself after all.

There have been a fair number of changes over the past weeks:
- most importantly: description of how to load firmware (new XML file)
- some updates regarding architecture support
- some general updates
- some spelling/grammar fixes (unfuzzied where possible)

There are still a few changes needed, but those will not impact
translations as it's just updating some entities (size of tasks etc.).
Some of these can only really be done after D-I RC1 is released.

Almost all translations need updates! The deadline for translation updates
is in two weeks: ***Monday November 10***.

Depending on the progress of the Lenny release I may be able to extend the
deadline a bit, but please do not count on that. The criteria for the
release are the same as always: only fully translated languages are
included; exceptions are possible, but only after discussion.

Many thanks to the translators for Swedish and Simplified Chinese who
managed to complete their updates before the end of the (extended)
deadline.

Unfortunately it does means that I've had to disable the Catalan, Japanese
and Korean translations for this release as they were not sufficiently
up-to-date. These translations are of course still available from alioth.

There will still be changes to the manual for Lenny (both due to changes in

behind could start catching up again.

The string freeze for the manual is now ended.

D-I Manual - String freeze / Call to update translations (deadline: Feb 10)

2008-01-26 Thread Frans Pop
As it's almost a year since the last upload and a D-I Beta release is being
prepared, now seems like a good time to do a release of the Installation
Guide.

So, please update your translations before *Sunday February 10*.

Currently there are 4 translations that are up-to-date:
German, French, Russian and Simplified Chinese.

All other translations need updating. There have not been a huge number of
changes since the last release, so 2 weeks should be plenty of time.
With this deadline, the upload should reach testing before the D-I Beta.

Cheers,
FJP

Which means a bit more than a week to go.

Eight translations are now complete.

For the following I have not yet seen any updates:
- Catalan: 12 outdated, 1 missing
- Spanish: 14 outdated, 1 missing
- Greek (98%)
- Finnish (98%)
- Vietnamese (98%)

Some notes:
- Korean was updated but has 1 fuzzy left :-P
- Hungarian was updated, but there still are untranslated strings in the
version for i386, so it is not yet acceptable!
Note also that for the first release after Etch, Hungarian will have
to be 100% translated, just like all other translations.

D-I Manual - String freeze - Call to update translations (deadline: Mar 18)

2007-03-03 Thread Frans Pop
Since the last release of the manual, we have fixed a number of errors,
made some minor changes and included some additions. The last includes a
new section in an appendix describing installations using PPPoE.
There have also been changes in the size of tasks that should be included
in the final version of the manual for Etch.

So, a call for a final effort to update your translations of the manual
for Etch. The deadline is *Sunday 18 March*.

There will be no more changes to the manual, except maybe fixes for minor
errors reported by translators.

The current status for XML-based translations is:
- German: up-to-date
- French: 2 outdated
- Japanese: 4 outdated
- Czech: 6 outdated
- Italian: 6 outdated
- Catalan: 12 outdated, 1 missing
- Portuguese (BR): 13 outdated, 1 missing
- Spanish: 14 outdated, 1 missing

For PO-based translations, it is:
1 100% Russian
   100% Chinese (simplified)
2 099% Portuguese (PT)
3 098% Greek
   098% Finnish
   098% Korean
   098% Swedish
   098% Vietnamese

The Greek translation has made a huge jump since the last release and can
hopefully be included again.

Cheers,
FJP

I see I forgot to list Hungarian here:
085% Hungarian

This translation will need to reach at least the same level of translation
as for the previous release, i.e. all i386/amd64 strings fully
translated.

Sorry for the number of build runs for the manual today and for the last
minute changes. The comments I had added for the optional paragraphs in
the GPL caused build errors and corruption of that POT file...
All should be well again now though.

Anyway, if you already updated your translation, please check one more
time.

For PO-based translations the current status is:
 1 100% sv
 2 098% zh_CN
 3 097% ru
 4 096% pt
 5 095% ko
 6 093% vi
 7 088% el
 8 078% zh_TW

D-I Manual - String freeze for next release - please update translations

2006-07-12 Thread Frans Pop
Now that we've made loads of changes again, it's time to plan a new
release. Main reason is that this would allow the latest version to be
included in the Beta 3 release of the installer.

So, translators: please update your translations! I plan to upload the
release on Monday 24 July, so you have almost 2 weeks.

The current status for XML-based translations is:
French:3 outdated
Czech: ? outdated, 1 missing
German:9 outdated, 1 missing
Spanish: 28 outdated, 1 missing
Italian: 3 outdated, 1 untranslated
Japanese: 9 outdated, 1 missing
Portuguese (BR): 3 outdated, 1 untranslated
Catalan: 23 outdated, 1 missing

The status for PO-based translations is:
 1 098% sv 1
 2 097% ru
   097% zh_CN 2
 3 096% pt 1
 4 095% ko 1
 5 093% vi 1
 6 088% el 1
 7 078% zh_TW 1

Two languages need to enable the gpl-unofficial condition in
build/lang-options *before* the release:
- Greek
- Portuguese (PT)
