Bug#463676: debtorrent: after significant uptime, pieces needed never seem to get downloaded

Bug#431928: netselect: negative scores because hosts mixup
Hi, According to my tests, analysis and reading parts of the code, this bug is not stricto sensu an overflow. What happens is that host-num_out becomes negative (when read as a signed int, instead of as an unsigned int), truly negative (not through overflow, but through subtracting 1 to 0). That is because the ICMP_TIMXCEED for one host gets accounted as an ICMP_TIMXCEED for another host when one runs netselect over more than 256 hosts, and every ICMP_TIMXCEED decrements host-num_out. Why 256? Because around line 299 of netselect.c, one does: host-seq = ++seq; seq %= 256; thus more than one host share the same seq (and thus UDP port number for probes), but the packet_ok function relies solely on the UDP port number to identify what host an ICMP packet is about. Hence, the ICMP packet for one host gets accounted for another host, corrupting the gathered statistics. The negative scores are only a particularly noticeable specific case of corruption, other scores may be corrupted in a less noticeable way. I see several solutions: - don't limit seq to any particular ceiling. I must admit I don't know why it was limited to 256 in the first place. - actually look at hip-ip_dst to match ICMP packets with hosts in packet_ok; this one seems more robust to me. -- Lionel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#439832: Status of armel in the archive?
2008/1/30, Luk Claes [EMAIL PROTECTED]: On Wed, Jan 02, 2008 at 10:32:55AM +0100, Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt wrote: [armel]'s quality is at least matching the current arm port Could you please comment on the current status and list outstanding issues blocking the inclusion of armel in the archive? Well, since no one else has actually answered the question... In unstable, arm is at 95.69% of the archive, while armel is at 91.94% Of the lacking packages, the lion's share is due to lack of language support. gcc-3 is not supported in armel and never will be, which excludes g77 and everything that uses it. The success of armel therefore depends on the success of the g77-gfortran transition. Objective C does not work on armel, which knocks out gnustep. ARM are now funding CodeSourcery to make the necessary modifications to gcc. It remains to be seen which mainline version this will go into - probably gcc-4.4, since 4.3 is now open only to regression fixes, while lenny's current default gcc is 4.2 with some people pressing for it to be 4.3. Debian may have to carry these modifications as patches. Other packages either don't compile or don't work on armel, including some that are included in the repository but do not work at all, of which the most high-profile are iceweasel and iceape-browser. Unfortunately there is currently no public bug tracker for issues other than the wiki pages; that would be one advantage of inclusion in lenny. The advantage of armel over arm from a normal user's point of view is the immense increase in floating point speed (a factor of 11) plus the possibility of using current hardware FPUs (for a further factor of between 2.5 and 7) The disadvantage is that it requires armv4t processors, excluding older ARMv4-based systems (CATS, NetWinder, Balloon 2). The simplest way to circumvent this would be to patch the kernel to emulate the missing BX instruction. wiki.debian.org/armelLennyReleaseRecertification summarises its certification status wiki.debian.org/ArmEabiTodo givean overview of the main issues wiki.debian.org/ArmEabiProblems is the closest we have to a public bug tracker. arm will be supported on lenny... I think that is highly desirable. The arm port is more mature and more functional at present M -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I don't know what Adam has to say about that, but as you are a co-maintainer of his audacious I assume he is fine with you joining the maintanance efforts of libmowgli. Bug#461148: python-boto: Proxy support is somewhat broken
OoO En cette soirée bien amorcée du mardi 29 janvier 2008, vers 22:23, Eric Evans [EMAIL PROTECTED] disait: There are some parsing functions in urllib and urlparse but none of them seemed to provide for a very clean solution. The attached patch should correctly parse urls with or without a username/password pair as well as setting up the appropriate header for proxy basic auth. Again, I don't have a ready means of testing this. I've made sure that it's parsing the url and setting the instance attributes correctly, and that it doesn't effect normal usage of boto. If you could apply the patch and let me know how it works for you, it would be appreciated. Hi Eric ! I have tested your patch: - without http_proxy: OK - with empty http_proxy: OK - without password: OK - with password: OK +pattern = re.compile( +'(?:http://)?' \ +'(?:(?Puser\w+):(?Ppass\w+)@)?' \ +'(?Phost[\w\-\.]+)' \ +'(?::(?Pport\d+))?' I think that \w is too restrictive for password. I can have special characters in password. I would suggest [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of \w+. It will catch: http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:3128 Well, in fact, you are better with .+ because you can catch: http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]@localhost:3128 As long that there is '@' in the string, we have a user/password scheme. And '@' cannot appear in the hostname or in the port, so we are safe. Since password can be empty, I would suggest .* : pattern = re.compile( '(?:http://)?' \ '(?:(?Puser\w+):(?Ppass.*)@)?' \ '(?Phost[\w\-\.]+)' \ '(?::(?Pport\d+))?' Thanks for your patch ! -- BOFH excuse #231: We had to turn off that service to comply with the CDA Bill.

However, I think a note in README.Debian would be a good start either way. Thanks, James -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#458615: Debian packages of haskell-hsql
On Mon, Jan 21, 2008 at 01:20:18AM +0100, Arjan Oosting wrote: You are listed as the maintainer of haskell-hsql on which one of my packages has a build dependency. Right now your package FTBFS because of a new version of haskell-devscripts and ghc6. Also there is a new version of haskell-hsql, version 1.7, available on hackage.haskell.org for some time now. As I have not seen much activity on the Debian packages of haskell-hsql on your side I was wondering if I could take over maintenance of this package? (Or co-maintain it?) Bug#462845: dependency on python-apt should be at least Recommends

Bug#422325: radiusd-livingston: Debconf abuse
Hi, Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED] (05/05/2007): A dedicated check is included in lintian so that future uses of low and medium priority note templates are discouraged. So, if you wish you package to be lintian-clean, then you need to fix this..:-) Note that the templates are not installed in the binary package (dh_installdebconf is commented in debian/rules), so there are no lintian warnings. This bug is only annoying for translators who think they should translate the templates while this is pointless as never displayed to users (and indeed, there are more than 10 open l10n bugs). Package: libicu38 Version: 3.6-2 Severity: grave Tags: security Two vulnerabilities have been found in libicu: From CVE-2007-4770: libicu in International Components for Unicode (ICU) 3.8.1 and earlier attempts to process backreferences to the nonexistent capture group zero (aka \0), which might allow context-dependent attackers to read from, or write to, out-of-bounds memory locations, related to corruption of REStackFrames. From CVE-2007-4771: Heap-based buffer overflow in the doInterval function in regexcmp.cpp in libicu in International Components for Unicode (ICU) 3.8.1 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) and possibly have unspecified other impact via a regular expression that writes a large amount of data to the backtracking stack. Bug#445764: libasis-dev: unmet dep libgnatvsn-dev (= 4.1)
Upon request from Matthias Klose, I changed the the gnat-4.1 and gnat-4.2 source packages so they provide versioned packages libgnatvsn4.1-dev, libgnatprj4.1-dev, libgnatvsn4.2-dev and libgnatprj4.2-dev. The source packages were just accepted today in the archive. In the mean time, I also uploaded gnat-4.3, libgnatvsn4.3-dev and libgnatprj4.3-dev. It is still in the NEW queue however. My plan is to skip the transition to gnat-4.2 and go directly for 4.3. The transition consists in waiting for gnat-4.3 to go through the NEW queue and then upload gcc-defaults to provide dummy packages: libgnatvsn-dev and libgnatprj-dev, depending on the 4.3 versions. Then I'll start work on the latest version of asis (2007). -- Ludovic Brenta. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#388199: Debian Bugs information: logs for Bug#388199
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Debian Bug Tracking System) writes: The code for the package action does only look at a package's version when comparing an installed version against what the user supplies, but totally ignores the version when actually running apt-get. this becomes a problem whenever apt-get's default choice needs to be overruled. [snip] a proper fix would involve some extension of the installation logic (src/do.c, line 2713++): some kind of desired_version attribute may be needed, if the version attribute is used with a cmp other than eq. furthermore, a translation into the package manager's way of specifying the version to install would be required. I guess this would be the best way. Anyone that have time to create a patch? :) as a workaround for now one can use packagenames with the versions embedded, ie. fuse-utils/sarge-backports or fuse-utils=2.5.3-1bpo1, and ignore the cfengine version comparison mechanism. this results in apt-get being run unconditionally, but as apt-get is idempotent this is not a problem beyond cluttering up cfengine's diagnostic output. This is a workaround if you only want to install, if you want to compare packages I guess it will not work. - Werner -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#462444: glibc: Please add symbols files for libc6
Aurelien Jarno a écrit : Raphael Hertzog a écrit : Package: glibc Version: 2.7-6 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Please add symbols files to the various libc* packages that provide libraries. Since libc6 is sanely versioned I suggest to rely on that to avoid maintaining explicit list of symbols (wee wildcards in dpkg-gensymbols(1) for explanations). You'll need the latest dpkg-dev to make use of this however. I'm sure the attached patch will need further fine-tuning because I'm not 100% confident that I got it right for all arches. That's a good start, but there is still some work to be done: - The minimum dependencies on sparc should be 2.6-1 due to the SPARCV8 to SPARCV8PLUS ABI transition - The patch uses symbols versioning to determine the minimal Debian version, but some symbols have been introduced later in Debian, due to some build options that weren't enabled or availabled on some architectures. TLS support is such an example. - As the symbols versioning in dpkg-shlibdeps only takes care of the symbols and not at the include headers, one has to search for #define or enum values that have been added, and bump the minimum version of the corresponding symbols if this value is uses internally in the glibc. Also the name of the dynamic linker is wrong on ia64 and amd64, which causes an FTFS. It should be /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 on amd64 and ld-linux-ia64.so.2 on ia64 instead of ld-linux.so.2. -- .''`. Here are two sample images: http://www.ullotar.dk/download/debian-bug-463641/test-noth.jpg http://www.ullotar.dk/download/debian-bug-463641/test-th.jpg The first one (test-noth.jpg) should reproduce the bug: $ exiv2 Desktop/test-noth.jpg Exiv2 exception in print action for file Desktop/test-noth.jpg: Failed to decode Exif metadata The second one shows that there is no problem if the file contains an embedded thumbnail. Both files were saved from the Gimp, the only difference being whether thumbnail was enabled in Gimps save as JPEG dialog. -- Jens Nordahl tlf: 35 43 36 95 mob: 22 48 09 04 web: www.ullotar.dk Shug fleugalvyscreru tvept peup djeud untaffe! Bug#406697: bug #406697: advice needed
On 30/01/2008 Marco d'Itri wrote: I believe that the bug reported at http://bugs.debian.org/406697 is not really an issue with cryptsetup but rather with udev. Can you agree on that? If so, I'd like to reassign the bugreport to udev. I do not understand what udev should do about this. Hey Marco, If you read the bugreport log, you might have found the following passage: On Wed, 17 Jan 2007 22:16:17 +0100, David Härdeman wrote: On Wed, Jan 17, 2007 at 12:15:56PM +0100, Frans Pop wrote: I'm now starting to think that the problem could be that the 'udevd --daemon' process has already been killed during S20sendsigs. That would explain that even if events are still generated, they are no longer processed and thus the devices remain present. [...] I've just verified that udevd is indeed no longer running at the time crypto and lvm are shut down. Ok, udev creates the /dev/dm-* devices and also removes them. At the time the cryptdisks scripts are executed at shutdown, udev is not running (as FJP said). The proper fix for this seems to be a post-Etch thing (involving changes in the kernel, udev and libdevmapper), and the issue seems mostly cosmetical, so I'll mark the bug as such. greetings, jonas signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#463707: xpdf: When page-up/page-down mark limits of previously seen text
Package: xpdf-reader Version: 3.02-1.3 Severity: wishlist This is a usability issue. When I'm reading text in xpdf, often one page does not quite fit on my screen. So, when I push page-down the first time, it switches to the bottom of the page, then the next page-down switches document pages. Now, on the page-down presses that do NOT change the document page, it's easy to loose track of where your eyes were in the document. For instance, on my current system, the viewing window shifts downward 7 lines, so you have to shift your eyes up 7 lines. Needless to say, counting up is inconvenient and slows down the reading process. In some documents, there are obvious landmarks (i.e. images, or odd-shaped blocks of text), but in other documents it may not be easy. For instance on pages that are nearly solid text without blatant paragraph breaks, I frequently lose track, and need to search to find the point where I was reading. Any time you lose track, it can take several seconds to find your place again, which slows down the process of reading dramatically. Here's what I'd suggest: Whenever page-up/down does NOT cause a change of the document page, put up a temporary mark to show where the visible area used to end. I'd suggest drawing a dashed or grey line across the image and leaving it on the screen for about 1 second. Readers would then rapidly learn that the temporary mark tells them where their eyes used to be. Then, readers would automatically move their eyes to the mark and continue reading. Reading in xpdf would be much faster and less annoying. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages xpdf depends on: ii xpdf-common 3.02-1.3 Portable Document Format (PDF) sui ii xpdf-reader 3.02-1.3 Portable Document Format (PDF) sui ii xpdf-utils3.02-1.3 Portable Document Format (PDF) sui xpdf recommends no packages. Bug#463709: libgksu2-0: gksu_sudo_full() returns early if sudo does not prompt for password
Package: libgksu2-0 Version: 2.0.5-2 Severity: important Tags: patch -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 gksu_sudo_full() sets its end of the pipe from sudo's stderr to be non-blocking. Once it has found a password prompt and sent the password, it makes it blocking again. Then it reads from the pipe and prints what it reads, until that fails. Then it cleans up and returns. If sudo does not prompt for a password, the function never sets the pipe to be non-blocking, so the attempt to read from the pipe fails immediately with error EAGAIN. It returns, closing its end of the pipe. The child process will then receive SIGPIPE (or error EPIPE) if it tries to write to stderr. Bug#463413: Probably not a gnome-system-monitor bug
I face the same bug with gnome-system-monitor, but mkvmerge fail the same way (I have try many different video inputs, with the same effect): [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ mkvmerge 24.1x24.avi video.mkv mkvmerge: symbol lookup error: mkvmerge: undefined symbol: _ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE A precision : this bug occurs even if Gnome is not running (I tried in single-user mode). When I use the mkvmerge-gui it fails when I try to add a video file, with the same message plus this : File identification failed for '/home/dobby/24.1x24.avi'. Return code: 127. Bug#463711: cannot pair on the command line
Package: bluez-utils Version: 3.24-1+b1 If I try to connect my bluetooth headset with hcitool, then I get # hcitool scan Scanning ... 00:0A:94:A1:4A:42 BTST-9300 # hcitool cc 00:0A:94:A1:4A:42 echo success success # hcitool con Connections: Thats all. No connections are listed. AFAIU it should have listed 00:0A:94:A1:4A:42. Of course the headset was set to pairing mode. Please note that neither gnome-bluez nor kdebluetooth work for me. But since it doesn't work on the command line either I doubt that this is a failure of the GUI framework. Regards Harri -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#463713: df: no file systems processed
Package: cron Version: 3.0pl1-103 Severity: normal Tags: patch Cron keeps mailing me: /etc/cron.daily/standard: df: no file systems processed The offending line is: df -P --type=ext2 --type=ext3 --type=xfs I don't have any mounted filesystems of those types, so df errors out. The attached patch simply redirects df's stderr to /dev/null; I don't know if that's a reasonable solution, but I'm using it now.
