Please check this bug.

Bug#499376: Inform is not required for PeaZip

2008-10-06 Thread giorgio.tani.software Gmail
I did several tests on latest PeaZip varsions after this bug report, but
as for what I can see Inform 6 is not used nor required for PeaZip in any
way.
Inform 6 is not used by the program itself, nor by the compiler
(Lazarus/FreePascal, which is Open Source), and was not installed at all
on the machines I used to build the application and the DEB, RPM and TGZ
packages.

I've not found in the logs any note about Inform 6 being required for
PeaZip while building the RPM package at first with RPMPM program, and
I've neither found any note about Inform 6 while creating the DEB package
converting the RPM with Alien (even with verbose and very verbose logging
options).
As expected, Inform 6 was not listed in dependencies, neither in the RPM
nor in the DEB package.

I would suggest to close this bug report if there are no new elements
about the issue.

 Giorgio Tani

I decided against making this a new bug report, since in a way this
transforms 480727 -- a new upstream version of Module::Build is
available on CPAN, and it adds a feature of interest: support for
 specific gpl2 and gpl3 licenses.

Since that new upstream version won't go into testing, and 480727 is
about keeping libmodule-build-perl out of testing, I am cloning to
another bug.

We didn't notice the new upstream as upstream changed versioning
scheme from 0.2800_01 to 0.30. I have adapted debian/watch adding
to overcome this.

Bug#501267: ITP: coinor-cbc -- Coin-or branch-and-cut mixed integer programming solver

2008-10-06 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Soeren Sonnenburg [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: coinor-cbc
  Version : 2.2.1
Upstream Author : John J. Forrest [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : https://projects.coin-or.org/Cbc
* License : CPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : Coin-or branch-and-cut mixed integer programming solver

Cbc (Coin-or branch and cut) is an open-source mixed integer programming
solver written in C++. It is primarily meant to be used as a callable
library, but a basic, stand-alone executable version is also available.

Mixed integer programming (MIP) is a generalization of linear programming (LP)
and allows to find the minimum solution of objective functions depending
linearly on variables, which are linearly constrained and additionally may
have integrality constraints.

Cbc is part of the larger COIN-OR initiative (Computational Infrastructure for
Operations Research) and depends on the COIN-OR Clp linear programming solver
for solving subproblems.

Cbc works well as independent solver (reading files in the MPS format) and as a
solver backend for AMPL.

It has been closed by Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Thanks, this partly does what I need, but not fully.

The problem is that foo/index.mdwn will end up as foo.html whereas
foo/bar.mwdwn will end up as foo/bar.html. I'd like foo/index.mdwn to
be inside of foo/ too (i.e. foo/index.html). I know that usedirs
would keep foo/index.mdwn as foo/index.mdwn but then foo/bar will
become a directory too, which I don't want. Essentially, I just want
something like usedirs that only applys to index.wdwn pages.

Hi Steve,

I am bugging again!

Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores)

I was checking again with this bug. And, found that xosview seems to
work with my latest kernel from Sid. I have, 2.6.26-7.

Please see attached screenshot. I am looking where exactly I am
missing something as my /proc/acpi/battery is present with 2.6.26-7

Hi,

some window managers which support dockapps have problems to catch
the given command line string of the wmix dockapp.
No command line is set via XSetCommand or no PID is given.

I think so it's very difficult for developers like me to get the
command line of the these dockapp.

Bug#500176: This bug is still around and release-critical

2008-10-06 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Pierre Habouzit [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008.10.05.1117 +0200]:
FWIW this problem is found in many other cases: see lighttpd with
apache2 installed, or caudium or any other http daemon, and none
of them has a bug about it, it's unfair to mark it as RC.

Uh, don't you think that marking it down to important for this
reason is not the solution? It's not unfair to file an RC bug for
something I consider an RC problem: an unusable (albeit far from
corrupted) dpkg database!

I believe the problem here is somehow very generic, and that using a
virtual package like proposed in the bug report (#500176) doesn't scale
 well.
 [...]
Anyways I think there is a more general solution to find and here
are a path. The fact that Debian starts every single service on
first install is something that we strive for, but causes some
grief for sysadmins that don't wish to open an unprotected service
before they configured it. It also generates the issue we're
 disussing.

Though, we could probably do better: a bit like solaris does, we
could have some kind of service handler that wraps every single
service, and if the start action fails, it marks the service as
broken and refuse it to start, prints whatever warning you want
to, but doesn't prevent the package manager to do its job.

Agreed, that would be nice. While this is something to consider for
squeeze release goals, how do we solve the problem for lenny?

Bug#501273: libmysqlclient15off: libmysqlclient.so.15.0.0 segfault

2008-10-06 Thread Emmanuel Lacour
Package: libmysqlclient15off
Version: 5.0.51a-12
Severity: important

Hi,

using RT 3.8.1 (and so DBD::mysql) as fastcgi process on lenny, I have
some times (mornings) this error in syslog:

kernel: [629096.801411] mason_handler.f[25833]: segfault at 8 ip 7fd3dd296afa
sp 7fffe8ede7d0 error 4 in libmysqlclient.so.15.0.0[7fd3dd23e000+1bf000]

and trying to connect to RT give of course an internal server error.

I saw some bugs related in libdbd-mysql-perl, so I also tried
libdbd-mysql-perl_4.008-1 instead of the current
libdbd-mysql-perl_4.007-1 in Lenny, with no success.

This segfault makes me think that this is a pure mysql bug.

Apache error log give no more informations:

[warn] FastCGI: server /opt/rt/rt/bin/mason_handler.fcgi (pid 25733)
terminated due to uncaught signal '11' (Segmentation fault)

Error seems to appear after daily logrotate (so trigered by apache or mysql
restart I think).

thanks for any help...

Bug#500703: urxvtcd: increments $SHLVL for daemon process

2008-10-06 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Decklin Foster [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008.10.02.2015 +0200]:
I realize I should have pointed out (to you) that urxvtc does send
its environment to the new terminal that urxvtd creates. That may
or may not be useful. (OK not really, what we would like here is
for urxvtcd to Just Work out-of-the-box...)

Yes, that's basically it. Anyway, I appreciate that you took it up
with upstream.

Ultimately I think using a login shell for this (as mentioned in
the thread) would be the way to go.

Login shells also increment SHLVL.

You want to count the number of shells from the login shell,
 right?

Well, yes/no. Assuming the login shell is xsession or whatever urxvt
starts, then that's definitely a sensible way to go. However, with
urxvtcd in the middle, SHLVL might get increased or not, depending
on the shell, which makes it hard to deal with. All I want is to
have urxvt pass a consistent SHLVL to the new shell, no matter
whether /bin/sh is served by bash, posh, zsh, dash, csh, or anything
else.

Therefore, my patch simply tried to counter the increment in case
SHLVL existed, thus making the shell used for urxvtcd nonexistent
wrt SHLVL, rather than resetting SHLVL later.

Of course, resetting is an option. I'll investigate.

Bug#501231: samhain doesn't run on armel

2008-10-06 Thread Martin Zobel-Helas

severity 501231 serious
thanks

Hi,

with the permission of Andi Barth i upgrade this to serious for the
following reasons:

* needs to be supported on all platforms, it can be sensible supported
  for a stable release

 | agricola:~# sleep 10; ps ax | grep -E 'sbin/s[a]mhain'
 | agricola:~#

* as you may see: we run that on project machines and we really need it
there, thus it should be also running on armel and lenny machines.

Greetings
Martin

Bug#501277: ITP: coinor-dylp -- Linear programming solver using of the dynamic simplex algorithm

2008-10-06 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Soeren Sonnenburg [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: coinor-dylp
  Version : 1.4.4
Upstream Author : Lou Hafer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : https://projects.coin-or.org/DyLP
* License : CPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Linear programming solver using of the dynamic simplex
algorithm

DyLp is designed to find solutions of constrained linear mathematical
optimization problems. To this end, it is using a full implementation of the so
called dynamic simplex algorithm for linear programming.

DyLP is part of the larger COIN-OR initiative (Computational Infrastructure for
Operations Research) and integrates well in the COIN Open Solver Interface
(OSI), OsiDylp, which takes advantage of capabilities provided by COIN (e.g.,
enhanced input/output and constraint system preprocessing) and is recommended
if you're working in a C++ environment.

Bug#496520: remove sympa from lenny?

Applying the patch from
http://sourcesup.cru.fr/cgi/viewvc.cgi/branches/sympa-5.4-branch/src/tools.pl?r1=4943r2=5124

should solve issue #496520, is that right?

It seems that the version of Sympa in lenny (testing) is 5.3.4.

Our process regarding maintenance of previous versions of Sympa is the
following :

   * when releasing a new major release (x.y) we create a dedicated SVN
branch for the previous stable version and update this branch with
 important bug fixes
   * we only maintain two branches at a time : the trunk and the
 previous stable branch

As a Sympa developer I'm worried because we don't maintain this Sympa
5.3.4 anymore.

The current version of Sympa is 5.4.3 ; any chance this version will be
distributed with Lenny instead of the old one?

Bug#501290: Installation report: MacBook4,1 on Oct 2nd

2008-10-06 Thread b+do
Not an issue as long as the bootloader and kernel are available in one
of the first four partitions (excluding the EFI partition).

As far as I understood the recommendation (e.g.
http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/Triple_Boot_via_BootCamp and one other that I
do not remember), additional partitions may lead to problems with Windows.
However, I cannot (dis)prove it at present...

Anyway, thanks for the information.

Bug#501297: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64: Description should make clear if the image if for Dom0 and/or DomU

2008-10-06 Thread Vincent Danjean
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-7
Severity: minor

  Hi,

Descriptions of xen kernel image packages (at least for amd64, not checked for
i386) should tell if the image is intended for Dom0 and/or DomU. As there have
been backported patches, it is difficult to know what is the situation exactly.
Refering to the upstream 2.6.26 situation is not a good idea here (it tells
that 2.6.26 has no Xen support in amd64 which is not the case for the Debian
kernel image)

  Best regards,
Vincent

--config-file=FILE Read configuration from FILE.
--multiscan -m Force MULTISCAN mode
--infected-i Only print infected files
--no-summary Disable summary at end of scanning
--fdpass pass filedescriptor to clamd (useful if
clamd is running as a different user)

So the -i option is here. How can I get a clean output with just the
infected file with the clamdscan ? Is it a bug of clamdscan ?

Thx a lot
Regards,
Guillaume

Bug#501083: [file-roller] Should not Recommend legacy archivers

For unpacking old or received archives - probably, but there is no point in
using these formats to create new archives.

As for RPM, I’ll let you search around the web for a while and see if you
 don’t find any.

RPM is the RedHat package manager format, also used in several other
distributions.
However I fail to see a use case where user of a Debian system would routinely
(or at all) need to manually unpack RPMs.
If one needs to install a package made for another system (a dangerous thing to
do), there's a tool (alien) made
specifically for that.

With respect,
Roman.

Does it happen for all users or only one?

What is your locale? Does it also happen in C locale?

Are there any 8-bit characters in the password?

I'd say mine was more correct:

This was always considered to be RC during the last 10 years.

Only failed upgrades from the previous stable release can be RC...

Where is that written?

I can only say that in the past it has been handled differently.

And if I was a testing fanboy I would also claim that upgrades of
testing had to be smooth.

Bug#235204: wine hangs for several minutes at startup

2008-10-06 Thread Sven Joachim
I just experienced a timeout that might be related to this bug. A simple
wine notepad would hang for several minutes until the editor finally
comes up. Running it under strace shows that the timeout happens here:

,
| connect(13, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(631),
sin_addr=inet_addr(192.168.42.1)}, 16) = -1 ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)
`

192.168.42.1 is an address for localhost, but the interface it is bound
to is down, since I'm only using the eth0 device when I connect PC and
laptop, I don't bring it up automatically. After sudo ifup eth0 the
timeout disappears, even if the interface is then brought down again:

,
| % /sbin/ifconfig eth0
| eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0b:6a:22:9f:b6
| BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

| collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
| RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
| Interrupt:10 Base address:0xd400
|
| % sudo ifup eth0
| % sudo ifdown eth0
| % /sbin/ifconfig eth0
| eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0b:6a:22:9f:b6
| inet addr:192.168.42.1 Bcast:192.168.42.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Note the extra line starting with inet addr in the second ifconfig
output.

Sorry, zero chance.

Racke

below (reduced from usage.rb) is enough to reproduce the bug:

$SAFE = 1
require 'tidy'
Tidy.path = '/usr/lib/libtidy.so'
html = 'htmltitletitle/titleBody/html'
xml = Tidy.open {|tidy| tidy.clean(html) }
puts xml

Bug#501193: closed by Bastian Blank [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2008-10-06 Thread Dirk Griesbach
Package: firmware-iwlwifi
Version: 0.13
Followup-For: Bug #501193

Hi, I encountered the same problem as mentioned by the OP. My laptop has
an hardware switch to enable or disable wireless networking. If I boot
my machine while the hardware switch is in wlan off position dmesg
will say, that the switch needs to be on to get wireless to work - so
this is quite what it should be. But switching the hardware switch to
wlan on doesn't do a thing. Nothing happens, no dmesg entry or other
stuff. Only if the hardware switch says wlan on while loading the iwl3945
module (during boot or with modprobe -r | modprobe) the stuff will work.
In this case switching off and on does work like a charm.

With kind regards
Dirk

Bug#501295: iceweasel: crash with vlc plugin

2008-10-06 Thread Michel Briand
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: important

Hello,

Iceweasel crashed this morning because of the vlc plugin.

I updated last night with aptitude. My vlc installed packages are:

ii libvlc0 0.8.6.h-4
ii mozilla-plugin-vlc0.8.6.h-4
ii vlc 0.8.6.h-4
ii vlc-nox 0.8.6.h-4

I have all packages from debian.org and not from
debian-multimedia.org...

I browse to http://www.avamip.fr/, where there is a video embedded.

I started in command line to produce 2 reports. One normal and one in
safe mode. I attach them to this mail.

The crash is reproduced everytime in normal mode.
In safe mode the browser don't crash.

I tried to remove my ~/.vlc to clean-up the vlc's cache... But it didn't
help.

Bug#500261: bash bug?

2008-10-06 Thread Marcin Owsiany
I believe this might be a bash bug. I asked for help in
http://groups.google.com/group/gnu.bash.bug/browse_thread/thread/e37f5c7ddcc55eeb

If nothing will come out of this, I will probably switch to a different
shell.

Bug#492970: #492970 - nfs-common 1:1.1.3-1 client disallows access to files/directories where it should allow access - Debian Bug report logs

2008-10-06 Thread Rasmus Bøg Hansen

Chuck Lever skrev:

Hi Steve-

As I understand it, the documented bug refers to running nfs-utils
1.1.3 on kernels older than 2.6.22 (ie the problem is with the legacy
mount command, not with the in-kernel mount parser, which has a
different, less harmful bug that masks these symptoms).

To reproduce this you need to force the use of the legacy mount
command that parses mount options in user space and passes a binary
data structure to the kernel via mount(2).

Is that why turning on NFS mount debugging on does not provide any debug
messages?

I believe that the Debian nfs-utils forces use of the legacy mount command.

mount -o sec=sys gere:/home /home-- this results in sec=sys in
/proc/mounts
mount -o sec=none gere:/home /home-- this results in sec=null in
/proc/mounts

mount gere:/home /home-- this results in sec=null in /proc/mounts

Bug#501160: brltty-udeb: Serial to USB converters detected as HandyTech

2008-10-06 Thread Samuel Thibault
Mario Lang, le Mon 06 Oct 2008 10:57:40 +0200, a écrit :
brltty-udeb currently detects USB devices 0403:6001 as a handytech
device. However, that conflicts with people using some ftdi serial to
USB converters: since udev runs brltty before the kernel command line
gets parsed by S37brltty, one can not set brltty=something,ttyUSB0.

I guess the safest way would be to just comment the 0403:6001 line in
  debian/brltty-udeb.udev.rules

I know, yes, but thats *my* display. Convince me that I should
cripple autodetection of my display type.

gah :)

What about brltty=off which would prevent brltty from starting at all?

Actually I wasn't talking about sighted users, but about blind users
using an FTDI serial to USB converter to plug a serial braille device.

What we could do is making the udev script detect the brltty= option
on the kernel command line and in that case just exit, i.e. make the
kernel command line override autodetection. That will make brltty=off
work indeed. I've attached a patch that seems to work.

Bug#501291: awesome: leaks filedescriptors to children

2008-10-06 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: awesome
Version: 2.3.3-1
Severity: normal

When I start an xterm with bash from awesome it has like these open
files:

$ lsof -n -p 23385
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICESIZENODE NAME
...
bash23385 helmut0u CHR 136,3 5 /dev/pts/3
bash23385 helmut1u CHR 136,3 5 /dev/pts/3
bash23385 helmut2u CHR 136,3 5 /dev/pts/3
bash23385 helmut4u unix 0xe93f73c0 25134
/home/helmut/.awesome_ctl.0
bash23385 helmut5w FIFO0,5 24642 pipe
bash23385 helmut6u unix 0xe93f7e40 33058

bash23385 helmut7r FIFO0,5 24646 pipe
bash23385 helmut8u unix 0xe93f7ac0 33224
/home/helmut/.awesome_ctl.0
bash23385 helmut 255u CHR 136,3 5 /dev/pts/3
$

However these .awesome_ctl.0 sockets are not connected, so they are of
no use. I therefore suggest to set the FD_CLOEXEC flag like this:

int flags;
flags = fcntl(socket_fd, F_GETFD);
if(flags == -1)
handle_error();
flags |= FD_CLOEXEC;
if(fcntl(socket_fd, FD_SETFD, flags)  0)
handle_error;

This fix should go into lenny if possible.

Helmut

Installing tzdata from unstable, appearently fixes this

the two last there is a propagation time as they need manual processing.

You would not interfere with any work from our (security team) point of view.
Moodle does not use the code of this specific vulnerability so no patch is
 needed.

The bug itself stays open until the embedded smarty code has been removed,
because a next smarty bug could of course affect moodle.

Thijs, do I perceive it correctly that you just forgot to lower the
severity of this bugreport? From what I see this bug doesn't really
justify keeping moodle out of the release. Unfortunately this hasn't get
addressed in months (noone tracking this package seem to actually have
cared?!) so I would be surprised if the release team would allow it back
into lenny.

On the other hand, the package hasn't changed at all since then, and
that it got removed because of this bugreport which was mistakenly left
at high severity seems like it had been an unfortunate error itself,
too. Would it be possible to get moodle back into lenny given that the
only reason (to my knowledge) was this mistakenly high severe set
bugreport and no other serious or higher bugreports were filed against
this package in months?

 Thanks for responses,
Rhonda

Bug#501293: dvipdfmx: eps figures are misaligned

2008-10-06 Thread Jens Noritzsch
Package: dvipdfmx
Version: 1:20080607-1
Severity: important

[cf. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dvipdfmx/+bug/132601]

Any eps figure that I include with, for instance,

\includegraphics[width=.49\textwidth]{example.eps}

is moved about 15mm to the left and to the bottom. Because I regularly
need eps figures in my documents, this makes dvipdfmx pretty much
unusable for me. If a 2006 bugfix is reverted (see attached .diff),
dvipdfmx works correctly.

Bug#490295: pciutils: lspci immediately freezes my alpha

2008-10-06 Thread Martin Mares
Hello!

I believe it worked with either etch (1:2.2.4~pre4-1) or even sarge
(1:2.1.11-15). Sorry, but I am not sure. Will it help if I foreport
one of those to current sid and try again?

It probably does not depend on the version of pciutils at all, but it
would help if you could try the kernel from Etch.

Bug#490295: pciutils: lspci immediately freezes my alpha

2008-10-06 Thread Martin Mares
Hello!

This problem is very likely caused by some PCI device hanging whenever
lspci attempts to read its configuration. This can happen due to a bug
in either the kernel or the hardware itself.

Let us try to find which device it is.

First of all, could you please send us the output of `ls -lR /sys',
so that we can make sure that there are no devices with strange addresses
detected by the kernel?

Also, do you know of any version of lspci or the kernel with which the
machine does not hang?

Bug#501154: sympa: not supported by perl version in Lenny

2008-10-06 Thread Olivier Salaün

Micah Anderson a écrit :

Package: sympa
Version: 5.3.4-5.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After installation of sympa, it tries to start the daemons, and the
following errors are printed out for each of the daemons:

Setting up sympa (5.3.4-5.2) ...
Starting Sympa mailing list manager: sympaPrototype mismatch: sub Lock::LOCK_SH
() vs none at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/Lock.pm line 38.
Constant subroutine LOCK_SH redefined at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/Lock.pm line 38.
Prototype mismatch: sub Lock::LOCK_EX () vs none at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/Lock.pm
line 39.
Constant subroutine LOCK_EX redefined at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/Lock.pm line 39.
Prototype mismatch: sub Lock::LOCK_NB () vs none at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/Lock.pm
line 40.
Constant subroutine LOCK_NB redefined at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/Lock.pm line 40.
$* is no longer supported at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/sympa.pl line 162.

I made these go away by commenting out:

#sub LOCK_SH {1};
#sub LOCK_EX {2};
#sub LOCK_NB {4};

in Lock.pm on line 38, I dont know if this causes any problems
The first problem (Constant subroutine LOCK_XX redefined) has already
been fixed *4 months ago* in the development trunk as well as in the 5.4
stable branch, see
http://sourcesup.cru.fr/cgi/viewvc.cgi/branches/sympa-5.4-branch/src/Lock.pm?r1=4922r2=5048

The other error:

$* is no longer supported at /usr/lib/sympa/bin/parser.pl line 63.
Is not something I know how to fix, however I believe that this was

deprecated by perl 5.10 as perldoc perlvar says:

$* Set to a non-zero integer value to do multi-line matching
within a string, 0 (or undefined) to tell Perl that it can assume that
strings
contain a single line, for the purpose of optimizing pattern
matches. Pattern matches on strings con taining multiple newlines can
produce confusing results when $* is 0 or undefined. Default is
undefined. (Mnemonic: * matches multiple things.) This variable
influences the interpretation of only ^ and $. A literal newline can
be searched for even when $* == 0.

Use of $* is deprecated in modern Perl, supplanted by the /s and /m
   modifiers on pattern matching.

Assigning a non-numerical value to $* triggers a warning (and makes
   $* act if $* == 0), while assigning a numerical value to $* makes
that an implicit int is applied on the value.

Which makes me think that maybe this should be changed to use the /m
modifier, but I dont know what this particular function in sympa does.

You're right, we had already fixed similar code earlier but obviously
forgot this one. We'll fix the problem ASAP in both trunk and 5.4 branch.
If you don't mind, could you add an entry in Sympa's own tracking system
: https://sourcesup.cru.fr/tracker/?group_id=23

Thanks.

Due to the fact that the four daemons all produce these errors when
sympa is started, and the effects of running code with unsupported
perlisms and unresolved prototype mismatches makes me think that this
version of sympa should not be released with Debian.

Micah

Hi.

The norwegian bokmål locale was renamed from no_NO to nb_NO a few years
back and I'm trying to get all the rouge translations into the right
locale. Could you rename the one in pmount to nb.po along with any
entries in po/LINGUAS or configure.in|ac?

You would not interfere with any work from our (security team) point of
view. Moodle does not use the code of this specific vulnerability so no
  patch is needed.

Thijs, do I perceive it correctly that you just forgot to lower the
  severity of this bugreport?

I'm not sure where you see that the severity is unjustified? As far as I
know it still contains and uses an embedded code copy which is present as
a separate package in the archive. I think that is a serious issue and
don't see why it should go unresolved.

You said yourself that the code of this vulnerability isn't used so I
don't understand how you can call this one justified. Yes, it contains
an embedded code copy, but it's not the only package that does and not
all get ripped off, and it's not like it's a hidden and unknown copy.

Said that, on the other hand I regret to have sent this mail/request,
haven't thouht about past security-wise history of moodle and that the
package is lagging behing quite some bugfix releases - so I'm absolutely
fine with keeping it out until someone really up to the job keeps track
of this mess, and:

There are many more open security issues in stable:
 http://security-tracker.debian.net/tracker/source-package/moodle

... and able to help to extract the relevant bits to ease the security
team's work. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=494642
is there about this, and hopefully it will work out this time. If the
team performs well I'm propably willing to provide backports ...

Security issues are frequent in this package so it needs an active
maintainer to keep up with it, which it currently hasn't got.

Right, and sorry for having acted blindfolded. It's often a thin line
between usefulness and painfulness and I forgot about the other part
here ...

I take back my request, sorry for the fuss.

Bug#501204: should translate DocBook ackno element

 build depend on po4a).

Yes, that would definitely break a few things :~)

If you need these changes for Lenny (e.g. for refcard), I would recommend
 to create locally a modified Docbook.pm in a lib/Locale/Po4a/Docbook.pm
 file, and export PERLLIB=lib/.

This works fine. Thanks!

Maybe at some point you could upload your current po4a to
experimental, so more people (Javier, Jens) could test it.

Again, I'd be happy to do the ecurity update but I need a patch. I
tried to have a look at the issue but it requires skills I don't have.

You would not interfere with any work from our (security team) point of
view. Moodle does not use the code of this specific vulnerability so no
 patch is needed.

The bug itself stays open until the embedded smarty code has been
removed, because a next smarty bug could of course affect moodle.

Thijs, do I perceive it correctly that you just forgot to lower the
severity of this bugreport? From what I see this bug doesn't really justify
keeping moodle out of the release. Unfortunately this hasn't get addressed
in months (noone tracking this package seem to actually have cared?!) so I
would be surprised if the release team would allow it back into lenny.

On the other hand, the package hasn't changed at all since then, and
that it got removed because of this bugreport which was mistakenly left at
high severity seems like it had been an unfortunate error itself, too.
Would it be possible to get moodle back into lenny given that the
only reason (to my knowledge) was this mistakenly high severe set bugreport
and no other serious or higher bugreports were filed against this package
 in months?

I'm not sure where you see that the severity is unjustified? As far as I
know it still contains and uses an embedded code copy which is present as
a separate package in the archive. I think that is a serious issue and
don't see why it should go unresolved.

It has a similar problem with libphp-phpmailer. It has an XSS bug open
without any action for months. It has had three NMU's in a row. It's
currently orphaned, new maintainership is there but is only just starting
up as it seems.

There are many more open security issues in stable:
http://security-tracker.debian.net/tracker/source-package/moodle

Security issues are frequent in this package so it needs an active
maintainer to keep up with it, which it currently hasn't got.

I think it would be way better for git-buildpackage to use git config
instead of polluting the source directory with yet another dot file.

While I fully agree on this (that's why I reassigned the bug), adding
one more file is not really a burden, at least until git-buildpackage
will support plain `git config` options.

The real problem is that AFAIK you cannot append new filter options to
-i/-I, but only completely substitute the default values.

Bug#501303: sudo with mc provides root privileges to users

2008-10-06 Thread Mathieu RV
Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.1-6
Severity: critical
Tags: security
Justification: root security hole

Hello,

When a user appearing in the sudoers file use the following command :
$sudo mc

Midnight Commander starts within a root shell.
Look at the bottom left of the mc screen : [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~#
Also, 'whoami' reports 'root'.
Then the user as full access to the filesystem has the root user.

It occurs even if the sudoers file do not allow access to the /usr/bin/su
command to the user.

I don't know if it is a feature, but it looks strange to me. I think that
system administrators using sudo functionnalities should be aware of this
behaviour.

PS : This behaviour occurs also with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy), on a standard desktop
installation.

Thanks.
