Bug#697667: unblock: opendkim/2.6.8-4
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Please unblock package opendkim I haven't uploaded this to unstable yet, this is a pre-approval request as the bug is not RC, but it's a trivial fix backported from upstream with negligible risk of regression that will help admins diagnose and troubleshoot DKIM signing/verification issues. Since currently the logs get the message selector wrong (it logs the signing domain instead), it makes it very difficult to troubleshoot selector related isseus (which are not rare). The big question is, if a change like you propose might make a difference for the transition of an adapted-like-you-suggest package to wheezy. If there is a yes to that question, I will put fixing the package on prio-A. Personally, I would flat out reject the changes as long as they ignore errors[1]. So that sense, I suppose it will make a difference. Mind you, even with the proper error handling I am not sure I would unblock the package. Partly because I am not confident with particular things the script is doing and partly because of Julien's comment on the changes being invasive. But if nothing else, I believe you would be fixing a latent RC bug in experimental. See the documentation of werkzeug.security.safe_str_cmp in http://werkzeug.pocoo.org/docs/utils/. However, in squeeze, python-werkzeug is only at version 0.6.2-1 (and the wheezy version of python-werkzeug, namely 0.8.3, isn't in backports). I worked around the problem by downgrading to the python-moinmoin in squeeze (1.9.3-1+squeeze4) and changing /moin_static194/ to /moin_static193/ in cherokee's config file. Is a better solution to backport python-werkzeug? I tried recompiling it from the source package, but it required upgrading many other packages so I just took the shortcut above. Apologies, I missed the safe_str_cmp dependency when I did the latest backport upload. Thank you very much. I think you have just pasted above two evidences of the real problem: it's not that it does the same as touch /root/.odbc.ini (which would be somewhat harmless), it's just that the -l option is being ignored. Is there already a bug report for this? Otherwise please clone this report, reassign it to odbcinst and retitle it. I would consider this as RC since it makes odbcinst unsuitable for use in maintainer scripts. There could be more packages affected ... this should list some of them: http://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=odbcinst.*-l+filetype%3Ashell Therefore I changed again the prerm script to execute odbcinst setting the ODBCSEARCH env var, which should override the options given in the command line. I can easily test it before you upload it if you add a Packages file: cd .../virtuoso-odbcinst-bug ; dpkg-scanpackages . Packages for the record, I'm attaching the debdiff against the -2 version. Looks fine, but not tested, yet. The bug reference in the prerm script should better point to a bug reported against odbcinst. Bug#697676: lvm2: cLVM binary package is missing
Package: lvm2 Version: 2.02.95-6 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Installation of clvm from the sid repository currently fails unless versions are overridden due to the cLVM binary not having been built for the current upstream LVM version. While building clvm (and enabling cluster locking in lvm2 and libs) is not a major issue for me, the following comment I found in the changelog is: lvm2 (2.02.95-6) unstable; urgency=low * Drop cluster (clvm) support. It never properly worked and is more dead than alive. -- Bastian Blank wa...@debian.org Wed, 02 Jan 2013 11:11:41 +0100 A side effect of disabling this feature is removal of support for a documented feature (cluster locking using locking_type=2) in the config parser resulting in a bricked server on reboot after a package ugrade. Maybe this should not be only for ts41x.lua :) Thanks. Do you find this preferential to just editing ts41x.lua directly for some reason? I like it when I can drop my local configs in some directory where they're read without having to modify the original configs. This makes sense. I'd be inclined to go a bit further than you and have /etc/qcontrol.conf contain nothing but a loop over /etc/qcontrol.conf.d/* reading multiple files. The current symlink would move to /etc/qcontrol.conf.d/50hardware.lua. It could also conditionally create e.g. 60lcd.lua on systems where the LCD support might be present etc. I'll take a look at this at some point (in my Copious Free Time...). Since qcontrol actually reads /etc/qcontrol.conf which is created as a symlink by the package perhaps locally creating that as a real file which reads /etc/qcontrol/ts41x.lua and also contains your local configuration would be another option? Hmm, this is what I've done until now. You can also make this config dynamic, i.e. read the machine type, register() it and then load the machine specific file and local additions. I considered that in the past -- http://www.hellion.org.uk/blog/posts/consolidating-qcontrol-configuration-files/ My conclusion was that the complexity cost in the configuration file was too high. Do you have anything generically useful in your local config? The shipped examples are pretty simplistic, especially wrt LCD and button handling and I'm open to (or, better, patches ;-)) ideas to make them more useful. Do a svn checkout http://svn.ankh-morp.org:8080/qcontrol_config/ and take a look into trunk/lcd-menu.lua (there's also a dynamic qcontrol.conf) Wow ;-) At some point (again in my CFT) I'd like to pick this up, if that's ok with you. I'll let you know and ask permission (we'd probably need to talk licensing) when I eventually get to it. I notice you've observed a lack of opendir in lua. That might be a good argument for doing the iteration over /etc/qcontrol.conf.d in the C part I suppose. Bug#678834: permission fix for public shares
The experience after a couple of months showed that the solution that sets inherit permissions = yes as default works very well. I'd suggest to implement that change as a fix. (Either in the default config file shipped, or better, by adjusting the fallback value that samba uses if the option is not defined in the configuraiton.) Adjusting a default in this way also seems to be the easiest of the options. I did not experience interference with manually defined shares, but if there is a possibility to define it as a default that applies only to usershares (maybe a template file?) that might be an option as well. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It is evidently not possible to discuss two issues in same bugreport, so I will file a separate bugreport regarding that perl predependency that I discovered in my search for a cause for what I experience. Bug#696965: [PATCH RFC] xfree86: add option -notty to prevent VT allocation
Hello, Peter Hutterer, le Tue 08 Jan 2013 17:05:16 +1000, a écrit : Provided the driver permits it, Xorg -notty will not create a VT on startup. Currently this driver list includes dummy and qxl only. I'd rather call it -novt, just like -novtswitch, -sharevts, vtXX. Only the -keeptty option is really at the tty level, not the VT. This seems to do the job, it restores the original behaviour by default, but started with -notty the server skips the VT allocation provided all drivers set HW_SKIP_CONSOLE. Bug#694908: Redistribution of Pathway ontology inside EMBOSS suite packaged for Debian
Hello Victoria, I'm writing you on the behalf of the Debian Med team which has included the EMBOSS suite into official Debian distribution. The EMBOSS suite does contain some files of the Pathway ontology and the site http://www.obofoundry.org/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?id=pathway lists you as contact. So I hope is fine to contact you. Please note that I have put the according bug tracker e-mail to this mail which makes this mail publicly available. While we would finally need a public statement please make sure you drop this CC in case you prefer that your response is not publicly readable. By packaging the EMBOSS suite the Debian operating system is currently redistributing some files from Pathway ontology indirectly, because EMBOSS has included these since version 6.4 (http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/emboss). Debian considers copyrights and licenses very seriously, and our system only contains Free software, that is, materials that our users can freely use, modify and redistribute themselves. In addition to our system, we have a non-free archive in which, as a convenience for our users, we redistribute works that give less freedoms to our users. In order to evaluate if works containing Pathway ontology files can at least be distributed in our non-free area, I would like to know if Pathway ontology is available under other terms of use or licenses, that allow redistributing Evidence codes ontology files. You might even like to follow the Gene Ontology Consortium that has put its database under a Creative Commons BY (Attribution 3.0 Unported) license[1]. Hmmm, well, then I would say this is cups that changed its behaviour and made it a requirement to have privleges in order to add a printer, even plug n' play toys. Which makes sense to me. Indeed, even on Windows, unprivileged users cannot add local printers to the system (but most Windows users don't notice as they always virtually work as root on their machines). The requirement has been present for the past 10+ years when using the web interface of CUPS to add a printer. That makes it less of a requirement to have the first created user in lpadmin, after more thinking. This bug could then even be wontfix. Given the existing status of using group membership in d-i to grant the first created user limited privileges, I think the issue revolves round whether there is something special about the lpadmin group which would militate against adding it to the first user account. A Cc: has been sent to debian-printing to allow them to comment on the usefulness and wisdom of putting lpadmin in user-setup-udeb. I don't think the description for the Package-List field should document the valid package types. There's already a Package-Type field for that (defaults to deb and only seems to be used in d/control in the source package). Bug#697686: libwine-alsa-unstable: ALSA Audio playback in WINE locks up ALSA capture
Package: libwine-alsa-unstable Version: 1.5.6-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, when trying to record sound (e.g. using arecord) played by some application running on WINE (e.g. vlc.exe) via ALSA, and if the recording application is launched *before* the playback application, recording stops immediately when playback starts, and after a while ALSA reports an Input/output error. This does not happen with native playback applications, e.g. the Linux version of vlc. Funny enough, if recordings starts *after* playback has begun, everything works fine. How to reporduce: 1. In a terminal, issue sudo alsactl restore; arecord -D default -f dat -v -V stereo test.wav 2. In another terminal, launch vlc.exe by issuing something like WINEPREFIX=/path/to/prefix wine /path/to/vlc.exe /path/to/some/audiofile 3. Wait for a few seconds... and see arecord complaining: arecord: pcm_read:1801: read error: Input/output error 4. Re-launch arecrod: sudo alsactl restore; arecord -D default -f dat -v -V stereo test.wav 5. Watch arecord recording happily ever after. I initially suspected WINE to somehow force access to my soundcard's capture device (A SB Live, which seems not to be dsnoop'd by default), but after creating a dsnoop'd device (which did allow for multiple simultaneous recordings with arecord when playing back audio with Linux's vlc) and teaching WINE to actually use it, the problem unfortunately remained. Bug#694908: Redistribution of OBO Relation Ontology inside EMBOSS suite packaged for Debian
Hi Chris, I'm writing you on the behalf of the Debian Med team which has included the EMBOSS suite into official Debian distribution. The EMBOSS suite does contain some files of the OBO Relation Ontology. I failed to find any licensing or contact information at http://obofoundry.org/ro/ but I noticed that you are the maintainer of this page and you might at least be able to forward this request. So I hope is fine to contact you. Please note that I have put the according bug tracker e-mail to this mail which makes this mail publicly available. While we would finally need a public statement please make sure you drop this CC in case you prefer that your response is not publicly readable. By packaging the EMBOSS suite the Debian operating system is currently redistributing some files from OBO Relation Ontology indirectly, because EMBOSS has included these since version 6.4 (http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/emboss). Debian considers copyrights and licenses very seriously, and our system only contains Free software, that is, materials that our users can freely use, modify and redistribute themselves. In addition to our system, we have a non-free archive in which, as a convenience for our users, we redistribute works that give less freedoms to our users. In order to evaluate if works containing OBO Relation Ontology files can at least be distributed in our non-free area, I would like to know if Pathway ontology is available under other terms of use or licenses, that allow redistributing OBO Relation Ontology files. You might even like to follow the Gene Ontology Consortium that has put its database under a Creative Commons BY (Attribution 3.0 Unported) license[1]. Kind regards and thanks for providing OBO Relation Ontology Andreas. Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Please unblock package dspam [this is a preapproval unblock request] Bug #695275 harmful actions in multiple postrm scripts of M-A:same packages was not fixed completely by previous upload to t-p-u. Indeed, many more resources are shared between several architecture of a same package, for instance configuration file. As such, the least intrusive change now is to just disable multiarch. Dear release team, i have prepared an updated copyright file. Before uploading a new revision i would like to ask you for your opinion about it and if it comes into question for an unblock. I have changed the GPL-3+ license for the debian directory to the GNU All-Permissive license. My intention is to make the files in the debian directory freely available for everyone without making the package non-distributable. I have also reviewed the Angband-License again. The only occurrence of the license is in src/angband.h. Zangband and Angband license both apply to this file. Therefore i have created two stand-alone license paragraphs for the Angband and Zangband license so that the newly created Files paragraph for src/angband.h conforms to copyright format 1.0. Bug#693220: Add crossbuild-essential support

It works nicely. We definitely want to start using this. The latest code is available at: http://people.debian.org/~wookey/bootstrap/ubunturepo/pool/main/c/cross-build-essential/ I think it would be a good idea to put this in build-essential, but I have one concern. At the moment this uses Depends: libc6-dev:armhf (etc.). The multiarch spec currently explicitly says that Depends on PKG:ARCH for a particular architecture (as opposed to PKG:any) is undefined. I'm therefore a bit worried that adding such syntax to build-essential would cause some bit of archive machinery to explode; it certainly results in a Lintian error. That said, it apparently works in simple sbuild chroot situations. CCing -embedded and -dpkg for advice. The other possibility is to add bridging dependencies by way of artificial package names that only exist on one architecture, e.g.: Package: libc6-armhf-cross Architecture: any Depends: libc6-armhf Package: libc6-armhf Architecture: armhf Multi-Arch: foreign Depends: libc6 Package: libc6 Architecture: any Multi-Arch: same That's not without its own problems, though; it bloats Packages and (last I checked) it requires manually forcing britney to accept it into testing. We need to use :arch for cross-compilers in the archive (if we ever want to get beyond the *-cross package-naming mechanism and actually use multiarch). We all recognise that. :arch was excluded from the spec initially, but there is no reason not to use it when needed and so long as the stable version of dpkg understands it. The dpkg in quantal and wheezy understands it so it should now be fine to upload sources using this so long as the versions of dpkg on the buildds understand it. We can't upload this to debian until buildds are updated to wheezy. If it's possible to use the :ARCH syntax instead, that would be better. I believe so. Bug#697695: dpkg-cross fails to match include directories in cflags values of pkg-config files.
Package: dpkg-cross Version: 2.5.8 Severity: normal The current dpkg-cross conversion of pkg-config files is failing to catch some instances of /usr/include in the CFLAGS section of the .pc file. This isn't often a problem but when libraries rely on assembly code (like Qt), the presence of /usr/include in the command line passed to the cross-compiler preprocessor can cause i386 assembly to be included into the file to be armel cross compiler: arm-linux-gnueabi-g++ -c -pipe -g -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/include/qt4 -I/usr/arm-linux-gnueabi/include/qt4/QtCore -Wall -W -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -DQT_DBUS_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -I../armel -I. -I/usr/arm-linux-gnueabi/include/qt4/QtCore -I/usr/arm-linux-gnueabi/include/qt4/QtDBus -I/usr/arm-linux-gnueabi/include/qt4 -I. -I/usr/arm-linux-gnueabi/include -o confdata.o confdata.cpp {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:167: Error: bad instruction `lock' {standard input}:168: Error: bad instruction `incl [r3,#0]' {standard input}:169: Error: bad instruction `setne [fp,#-5]' {standard input}:217: Error: bad instruction `lock' {standard input}:218: Error: bad instruction `decl [r3,#0]' {standard input}:219: Error: bad instruction `setne [fp,#-5]' This happens because neither the QJson.pc nor the QtCore.pc files are converted correctly. Bug#697696: diffstat: Doesn't fetch terminal width correctly
Package: diffstat Version: 1.55-3 Severity: normal Diffstat tries to get the terminal width to auto-scale the histogram, but the method it uses simply doesn't work, at least with bash. The method it uses is getenv(COLUMNS). Unfortunately, at least with bash, the COLUMNS variable is normally a magic variable, it doesn't really exist in the environment, and so diffstat always thinks the terminal is 80 chars wide, which often results in forcing the histogram to only be its minimum 10 chars wide, no matter how big the terminal window is. Bug#697697: ecere-sdk: binary package conflict with eclib
Package: ecere-sdk, eclib Severity: important ecere-sdk and eclib packages both have binary package libec0. Please help resolve this conflict. Both are Library for modular symbols and elliptic curves over Q, but I am not sure if the two packages are the same or different sources, and how to name them. The options are: 1) ecere-sdk drops the package build-deps on the eclib one 2) eclib is dropped in favor of ecere-sdk 3) ecere-sdk renames its libec0 to something else 4) eclib renames its libec0 to something else 5) both rename libec0 to something else, and possibly both Provides: libec0 (if compatible) Also, we should decide above in context when/where we want to implement this: wheezy and jessie. BTW Ubuntu already synced both packages, so the clash is more evident there. Regards, Dmitrijs. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#696605: some processes are duplicated in pstree output
Package: psmisc Severity: normal Tags: upstream patch This is psmisc bug #52, see http://sourceforge.net/p/psmisc/bugs/52/ It's patched in f118a020b35fe6ad3d844478363dcf3186556204 in the psmisc git repository. Craig, would you consider updating the debian package for wheezy to contain that fix? For my personal sanity, I already backported the fix. Bug#693501: Debian Bug 693501 - lightdm-gtk-greeter: Kernel panic with lightdm-gtk-greeter and Intel845g
I've been able to narrow this down a bit more. One of my other systems still had 3.2.0-3-686-pae (3.2.23-1) in its apt archives. This kernel also boots successfully and does not hang at mdm startup. So, the problem did not exist in any of the 3.2.0-3 series released to Wheezy, but was introduced sometime between this image and 3.2.32-1, the 1st of the 3.2.0-4 series released to Wheezy. Bug#697698: broken configury with glibc headers moved to the multiarch location
Package: ustr Version: 1.0.4-3 Severity: serious Tags: sid wheezy patch the configury is broken with glibc headers moved to the multiarch location, resulting in a wrong value for HAVE_STDINT. I didn't check for other brokenness. A patch is included in http://launchpadlibrarian.net/127920247/ustr_1.0.4-3_1.0.4-3ubuntu1.diff.gz which includes patches to cross build the package. As a side note, it would be nice to make the -dev package m-a: same as well. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#697680: mirror listing update for debian.serverspace.co.uk
Hi Simon, I too was getting issues connecting via PASV as it was occasionally picking ports below the recommended range (49152-65534) which were blocked by iptables. I have now fixed this issue so PASV should be working correctly. I have tried 20 connections from out offnet testing platform and not one tried to connect on an incorrect port. Bug#697577: apt: default pkgProblemResolver::Scores prioritise Priority: important over Priority: required
On Mon, Jan 07, 2013 at 03:18:01PM +0800, Paul Wise wrote: Package: apt Version: 0.8.10.3 Severity: important Thanks for your bugreport. A note on the version information for this bug: it is present in both wheezy and squeeze and probably earlier. The default pkgProblemResolver::Scores::Important is greater than pkgProblemResolver::Scores::Required. According to my reading of the Debian policy document, Priority: required should be higher than Priority: important: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-Priority http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-priorities [..] Indeed, thanks a bunch. It looks like this is a ancient problem. I commited a fix to the debian-sid branch now and a cleaner one to the experimental branch. Unfortunately the enum pkgCache::State::VerPriority needs to change for the cleaner version and this breaks both ABI and the cache layout.
