Bug#531716: nagios-plugins-basic: Results of check_ntp* tests depend on locale

2009-06-03 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: nagios-plugins-basic
Version: 1.4.12-5
Severity: normal

Hi!

It seems that the results of the ntp checks depend on the used locale:

=
r...@longinus:~# locale
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

r...@longinus:~# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ntp_peer -H localhost -w 0.5 -c 1
NTP WARNING: Offset 0,014 secs|offset=0,014000s;0,00;1,00;

r...@longinus:~# LANG=POSIX /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ntp_peer -H localhost
-w 0.5 -c 1
NTP OK: Offset 0.014145 secs|offset=0.014145s;0.50;1.00;
===

Note that the values didn't change much, but the german locale uses a
, to sepperate decimal values instead of a dot.

(Causes especially funny results, if you invoke the test via nrpe and
the locale settings of the user starting nrpe influence the results of
this test...)

Best regards,
  Alexander

Package: netbase

Hi!

Would it be possible to add nagios to /etc/services? I always fail to
remember that port ;)

Entry could look similar to the following:

nagios 5666/tcp # Nagios Remote Plugin Executor

Alternative would be nrpe instead of nagios.

Package: openyahtzee
Version: 1.8.1-1
Severity: minor

Hi!

I think the package description of your package openyahtzee could be
improved.

Some remarks:
 - open-source (free) it's in Debian main; you don't need to mention
   that.
 - Open Yahtzee is built to be OS-portable unimportant when
   installing from binary packages.

Maybe you should hilight the features instead. For example the animated
buttons.

Version: 2.7.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi again!

I just noticed, that the hyperlinks in
/usr/share/doc/r-base-core/doc/html/index.html don't work, too.

They all miss either an html in their path, or should ommit the path
completly: a href=../manual/R-intro.htmlAn Introduction to R/a

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

Bug#492890: r-base-core: R opens documentation in a useless way

2008-07-29 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: r-base-core
Version: 2.7.1-1
Severity: important

Hi!

When I run the command help.start() within R, the html documentation
is opened in a browser window (in my case: iceweasel) as expected,
however the documentation files are copy to /tmp, e.g.
file:///tmp/RtmpGB3Y2B/.R/doc/html/index.html (intead of
file:///usr/share/doc/r-base-core/doc/html/index.html)

That's bad, because the links won't work that way, since they are
relative links don't work from the temporary directory.

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

Bug#484545: RFH: mediawiki-extensions

2008-06-19 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

Romain Beauxis schrieb:

 This package is a collection of extensions, and I don't use many of them

 It has a quite nice synchronisation system to keep track of upstream
 changes.

 Apparently, some people would like to see more extensions packaged, but
 I don't feel really qualified since I don't use them.

 The package is team maintained, so I would be very happy to accept
 collaborations. Work required is mostly testing, the other things should
 go easy.

I use mediawiki with some extension on several systems. I would be glad
to help out. However, I won't have time to help much at least until
early July.

Hi Roberto!

* Roberto C. Sanchez [EMAIL PROTECTED] [080529 01:06]:

 I request an adopter for the httperf package. As of some time ago I
 have lost interest in the package and do not use it much anymore. The
 package first entered Debian nearly seven years ago and in that time has
 not seen a new upstream release. The project can be said to be feature
 complete, and so the lack of upstream activity is not a problem. The
 package is currently bug free and very easy to maintain. I have kept
 the package in svn since taking it over and would be glad to provide the
 entire svn history to whomever chooses to adopt this package.

I would like to adopt your package and would like to keep it it in
subversion (in the collab maint repository), so I would be interested in
the svn history as well. (would still need to search through the
documentation how to import that.)

Many thanks for your work so far, indeed it's in a very fine condition!

Bug#470979: bmpx: FTBFS with g++-4.3: Missing includes

2008-04-08 Thread Alexander Schmehl

Hi!

Am 6.4.2008 schrieb William Pitcock [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

  This is fixed upstream, so I am waiting for the next release which is in
  a few days.
 Any news on this? You know, you could always upload/let upload a
 package with the patch and a the new upstream version later.
BMPx 0.40.14 release is less than a week away. We tried to release
today, but found a bug with internationalization.

If this is a critical issue and it needs to be handled before then, feel
free to do a 0day NMU; bmpx is marked as a LowThresholdNMU package. I
will acknowledge the NMU when BMPx 0.40.14 is uploaded.

Well, it's a release critical bug (since the gcc 4.3 suite is now the
default compiler on several architectures), so IMHO it should be fixed
ASAP. But since you are well aware of the bug and preperaing a fix for
it, I don't think it's worth an NMU.

 Did you do something bro^Wspecial?

Looks like #466778 which was recently closed with an NMU.

Bug#474774: devscripts: [nmudiff] Doesn't recognize when closing multiple bugs in one NMU

2008-04-07 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.20
Severity: normal

Hi!

It seems that nmudiff doesn't recognize if you close mutliple bug
reports in one NMU. Instead of doing his usual send patch to every bug
report and add patch tag it then falls back to reporting a new bug.

Example for a failed changelog entry (I guess you are parsing the
changelog, aren't you?):

==
guile-1.8 (1.8.4+1-2.1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Added debian/patches/guile-1.8-gcc43.diff
to let it compile with gcc-4.3 and to solve the 'extern inline' functions
problem
(Closes: #462384, #466778)
Thanks Maximiliano Curia and Daniel Schepler for the patch!

 The bug is still present as the patch only addressed one part of the

Uh? Of course I tried the patch before uploading, and the patch solved

Hi!

I'm giving up on this one; while I'm now able to reproduce this bug, I
have no glue how to fix it. Considering that upstream is more or less
inactive and unreachable, I would propose to remove the package from the
archive if no one else has a good idea about that one.

Yours sincerely,

Bug#472987: mediawiki: Dependency not correct for usage with postgresql

2008-03-27 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: mediawiki
Version: 1.11.2-2
Severity: serious

Hi!

It seems to me that recommending postgresql-8.1 (or postgresql as
1:1.12.0-1 thankfully does) isn't enough, since you need not only to have
a postgresql server, but also tspeak2 which seems to be in the respective
postgresql-contrib package.

It would also be cool, if it could be further documented, on how to enable
this feature (one needs to do something like psql wikidb
/usr/share/postgresql/8.1/contrib/tsearch2.sql, after running
config/index.php, but I'm not entirely sure, since I'm stuck with the error

Hi!

Just stumbeled over this bug, and it seems that it's not really bug,
but a badly documented change:

apache2-ssl-certificate seems to be splitted of in a seperate package
ssl-cert. The script is called /usr/sbin/make-ssl-cert.

Perhaps apache should even recommends ssl-cert; this seems to be a quite
common problem ;)

 This was fixed with the latest 1.12.0 upload..

Small correction to my last message: s/tsepak2/tsearch2/ ;)

Actually I did, and I think you refer to:

* Changed postgresql recommends to postgresql package
   Closes: #469582

This allows mediawiki to be used with any version of the
postgresql-Server, which is good.

However: To run mediawiki on a postgresql-Server you seem to need
tsearch2, which is shipped in a seperate package, namely
postgresql-contrib. Without that package beeing installed, it just
doesn't work.

Beeing not really deep in postgresql myself, I'm not really sure, if
changing the recommends from postgresql to postgresql-contrib is okay;
postgresql-contrib depends on the proper postsql package, so the server
would be pulled in, too. Maybe the postgresql maintainer can say
something about that?

  It would also be cool, if it could be further documented, on how to enable
  this feature (one needs to do something like psql wikidb

 Hey, I don't know anything related to postgre so I can hardly help..

Got it working :)
Seems like the the configure script is not yet really working; after
doing an GRANT ALL on pg_ts_cfg TO wikiadmin; the config script
finished, and now I have a really nice mediawiki using my
postgres-Database.

 However, the package is team-maintained, but I 'm currently the only member,
 so I would kindly accept new contributions/contributors :-)

I'll set it on my todo-List, promised, but it might take some time for
me to get back to you, since I'm quite busy at the moment.

Beside that Wir warten auf Sponsoren is IMHO a bad translation (it's more

is the wrong categorie, since its In Discussion.

 This looks a lot like http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=396219

Hi!

 Thank you very much for searching a fix for this problem.

 I'm currently awaiting a response from the upstream author on some

 before since I'll be away next week).

I was just looking through packages I once sponsored, which didn't made

May I ask you for a status of this bug? It's release critical, and sou
should IMHO fixed as fast as possible.

If you have a tested patch, I willing to sponsor an upload.

Bug#466550: Please clarify the get-orig-source target stated in Policy 4.9

2008-02-19 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.7.3.0
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dear policy team,

recently the get-orig-source target of debian/rules has been discussed
on the debian-mentors list (see the threads starting with [1] and [2]).

It seems the get-orig-source specific paragraph of section 4.9 should be
improved to a bit more clearly and answer some open questions, too.

Basically it boils down to two or three open questions:

The first one being, if get-orig-source is intendedn to fetches the most
recent version of the original source upstream wise or if it should
fetch the most recent version debian wise.

If the later is the case and of a package has a version in
experimentatl, should get-orig-source fetch the version of experimental
or from unstable?

And last questions: Where should tools used in get-orig-source (e.g.
bzip2 or unzip to repacke a tarball) be declared? As Build-Dependency?
Anywhere else?

 I don't think, they should be declared in Build-Depends, because they

Bug#465977: nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source: driver works in principle, but sometimes (in games) graphiks are invisible

2008-02-15 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-source
Version: 96.43.01-2
Severity: normal

Hi!

This bug is kind of difficult to explain, and I have no idea, how to
debugg it. I hope it helps anyways.

The situation is as follows:
I have an nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX - nForce GPU] (rev a3)
graphics card (shipped with an Nforce2 mainboard) and builded the driver
using module-assistant.

It works quite well: 2D is not a problem at all, GL screensavers seem
to work, too.

However in most games using 3d I get to see only the background image.
E.g. when I start ppracer, I get a blue screen, hear the music, but
neither the menu nor the snow flakes are shown.

That used to work, but I'm unsure which change made it stop. I think
(nut haven't tried so yet), that it stopped working, when the
legacy-96xx driver was splitted, since the normal one didn't support
my graphics card any longer.

Any idea, what I could try to solve the problem / get to know what's
going wrong?

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

  Description : Arcade game featuring tux the penguin, snow ice and fishes
 Thanks for your work on it. Could you please clarify whether it
 is just an alternative to ppracer or whether it is a replacement?

ppracer is upstream dead. Extreme Tuxracer is a fork from a
beta-version of ppracer, which never made it stable. So it is a
replacement, but since it seems to have quite higher hardware
requirements, I consider having both in Lenny and removing ppracer after
the Lenny release; (ppracer is in good shape and allthough unmaintained
upstream no security risc).

Positive aspect: This branch of extreme tuxracer seems to use the same
format for courses as ppracer does, so planetpenguin-racer-extras might
be usable for extreme tuxracer as well.

At least? You have further improvements? Sounds 3D racing game

(Hmm... why did I copy the long description from ppracer, but not the
synopsis?)

   You should have working 3D acceleration for your X or this game will run

 I refrain my neutral wording stance here which makes me think that
 wording with you should have, you must, etc. should be dropped in

 object that some friendly wording is OK for games.

 However, shouldn't the last word be slowly?

Now that you mention it... allthough it is in theorie possible to play

 Extreme Tuxracer, or etracer as it is called for short, is a simple OpenGL
 racing game featuring Tux, the Linux mascot. The goal of the game is to slide
 down a snow- and ice-covered mountain as quickly as possible, avoiding the
 trees and rocks that will slow you down.
 .
 Collect herrings and other goodies while sliding down the hill, but avoid fish
 bones.
 .
 This game is based on the GPL version of the famous game TuxRacer.
 .
 You should have working 3D acceleration for your X or this game will run quite
 slow.

Hi!

 ...but also, we'd really want to have a usable tool widely available for
 educational use _now_ rather than whenever you/we succeed in refactoring
 the code for a more general scope.

Looking at the patch you send, it should be fairly easy, to make
go{play|learn} behave differently based on a commandline argument / name
of programm invoked. That might be a working interim solution, but is
IMHO a bit ugly. So maybe a common library might be an idea for the
future?

I'll try to give it a go tomorrow.

 So I propose the following:

   1. Add GoLearn! to Debian

   2. Refactor GoPlay into a skinnable GoGo! tool

   4. Add GoGo! to Debian, replacing both GoPlay! and GoLearn!

 How does that sound to you?

Depends on point three ;)

Hi!

During building a package using pbuilder (with an uptodate build.tar.gz), I
noticed, that your package could not be installed (and therefore my package
failed to build).

The relevent part of the pbuilder log is:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Don't know, if it's the fault of libdirectfb-1.0-0 or tslib, but I would
like to see this bug fixed soon; since most of my packages build depend on
libsdl1.2-dev and fail to build for that reason :)

Bug#444199: ITP: freecol -- freecol: an open version of Colonization

2007-09-27 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

* Michael Koch [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070926 21:50]:

  License is GPL, I'm not sure though whether all art work is free.

  Great game (though buggy sometimes...) !
 Alexander Schmehl did some prelimiary packages some time ago. But due to
 the legal issue with the art work he stopped. Please clear the legal
 situation with upstream before doing more work. Last time we asked
 upstream dont seem to care really.

That's one reason. An other are some libraries, which were shipped as
precompiled jar files in the source tarball (IIRC I couldn't find
neither their source nor their license), and because I lost interest
more or less, when I found out, that it would be only a contrib
package, since it would need an dependency on sun's java :(

Preliminary packages are still available at
http://people.debian.org/~tolimar/tmp/freecol/, feel free to base your
work on them, I won't find to take care of them.

Oh, and if Michael doesn't invite you, to join the pkg-java team, you
are invited to join the pkg-games team ;)

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

Bug#436325: ppracer: FTBFS: error: tcl.h: No such file or directory

2007-08-07 Thread Alexander Schmehl
tag 436325 -patch +confirmed
thanks

[adding tcltk maintainers to cc list]

Hi Cyril!

Sorry, I think your patch tag is a bit to fast; at least I'm not yet
sure if it's ppracers fault, nor if what's the proper way to fix it.

* Cyril Brulebois [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070807 03:23]:

 this is due to the empty -I flag. It looks like it comes from the
 following configure.in snippet: (else case).
 | if test x$with_tcl_inc != x; then
 | TCL_CFLAGS=-I$with_tcl_inc
 | AC_MSG_NOTICE([Using custom TCL headers directory: $with_tcl_inc])
 | else
 | TCL_CFLAGS=-I$TCL_INC_DIR $TCL_INCLUDE_SPEC
 | fi

 Indeed, TCL_INCLUDE_SPEC contains the appropriate path, whereas
 TCL_INC_DIR is empty. I guess it is sufficient to conditionally add
 ``-I$TCL_INC_DIR'' only if TCL_INC_DIR isn't empty.

 After editing src/Makefile manually:
 -CXXFLAGS = -g -O2  -I/usr/include/SDL -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_REENTRANT -I
 -I/usr/include/tcl8.4  -I/usr/include/freetype2
 +CXXFLAGS = -g -O2  -I/usr/include/SDL -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_REENTRANT
 -I/usr/include/tcl8.4  -I/usr/include/freetype2

 I've been able to build successfully the .deb's, so I guess you can
 focus on fixing configure.in's code.

I'm not yet sure if it's ppracer configure beeing wrong. It's sourcing
/usr/lib/tcl8.4/tclConfig.sh to get those variables, and the script
shipped with tcl8.4-dev_8.4.12-1.1 did contain TCL_INC_DIR. The one
shipped with tcl8.4-dev_8.4.15-1 does not.

So I'm wondering, why Tcls behaviour changed?

Lucas, have there been other Tcl related FTBFS?

BTW:  We don't need to patch configure, Makefiles or configure.in;
calling configure with
--with-tcl-inc=/usr/include/tcl8.4/tcl-private/generic works, too.
But before uploading with that change, I would really like to hear input
from tcl maintainers.

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

 In fact, it was forgotten during a package upgrade, and I think it
 will be restored in the next upload. But anyway, it's a hack, and if
 the application doesn't use internal Tcl headers then it would be
 better to use TCL_INCLUDE_SPEC variable, which expands to
 -I/usr/include/tcl8.4 (and this directory certainly contains tcl.h).

Thanks for the fast response. Will do so!

 Dankon!

Thanks for your interest in xdialog and your patch, I just finished
creating xdialog packages which - beneath some other changes - use gtk2
and glib2.

However since the upstream author officially claims that gtk2 support is
experimental, I would like to see some more tests before uploading
them to Debian sid.

Would you be willing to download them from
http://people.debian.org/~tolimar/tmp/xdialog-gtk2/ and test them a bit?
(Versions for Debian 4.0 etch ara available as well as packages for
Debian sid; you just need to download the .deb-files and install them
dpkg -i).

That would be a great help!

Bug#435288: planetpenguin-racer: New upstream version of ppracer (0.5) exists for about 2 years !

2007-07-30 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

* Mantas Kriaučiūnas [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070730 21:21]:

 There is new version from http://developer.berlios.de/projects/ppracer/,
 and, according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/53299 :
 [..] it is better to ship that than 0.3.1, which is getting very stale.

 Some reasons to ship the newer one:
 -0.3.1 won't let you bind non alphanumeric keys, 0.5 does

I don't think thats a major problem... it's not that you would have that
much functions you need to bin to keys. Would be nice, but not a major
problem, isn't it?

 -0.3.1 has a bug that has been fixed, where hitting enter allows the
 user to enter any race, even if they shouldn't be allowed.

That's bug #433377, a patch exists and will most likely be applied with
the next upload.

 -0.5 has more flexibility in the options menus

Okay, I confess that's a good argument.

 -despite being labeled an alpha release, I've had no problems with 0.5

When I tested it two years ago, I had. Didn't worked very well
(couldn't even finish one level;
http://www.planetpenguinracer.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bugs lists some
more issues).

But considering that ppracer upstream is inactive, I have a very bad
feeling about uploading an alpha release (which didn't worked for me)
while the only good argument in favour of it I see is the more flexible
options menu.

I would rather wait, if the follow up project at
http://www.planetpenguinracer.com stays alive and get's something
released; didn't had to to check their version, yet.

BTW: Since the Format of the levels changed from 0.3.1 to 0.5 someone
would need to convert all the levels in the -extras package (as well as
the ones I have on hold for the next upload for the -extras package).

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

PS: A good point in favour would be, that 0.5 drops the TCL dependency.
An other point against it, is the own squirrel library shipped with the
0.5 stuff.

Bug#429024: svn-buildpackage: When using svn-tagonly, non existing directories should be created

2007-06-15 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: svn-buildpackage
Version: 0.6.20
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

When creating new packages, one probalby doesn't have a tag-folder for a
specific package. svn-buildpackage --svn-tagonly will then fail to tag
your current version. It would be cool, if svn-buildpackage could detect a
such a missing directory, and create it himself (perhaps after asking the
user).

That would save the manual creation and commit of such a directory.

Bug#422411: ilohamail: Not overwriten config files; renamed ones

2007-05-05 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Package: ilohamail
Version: 0.8.14-0rc3sid3.1
Followup-For: Bug #422411

Hi!

Just discoveres, that my first impression about the upgrade bug was wrong.
During an upgrade the configurations files are not overwritten. New ones
with different names are placed there with default values.

0.8.14-0rc3sarge1 had the following files:
etc/IlohaMail/conf.inc
etc/IlohaMail/conf.php
etc/IlohaMail/custom_auth.inc
etc/IlohaMail/db_conf.php
etc/IlohaMail/defaults.generic.inc
etc/IlohaMail/defaults.inc
etc/IlohaMail/login.inc
etc/IlohaMail/login_blurb.inc
etc/IlohaMail/login_title.inc
etc/IlohaMail/mysqlrc.inc
etc/IlohaMail/new_user.inc

0.8.14-0rc3sid3.1 has the following files:
etc/IlohaMail/conf.inc
etc/IlohaMail/conf.php
etc/IlohaMail/custom_auth.php
etc/IlohaMail/db_conf.php
etc/IlohaMail/defaults.generic.inc
etc/IlohaMail/defaults.inc
etc/IlohaMail/login.php
etc/IlohaMail/login_blurb.inc
etc/IlohaMail/login_title.inc
etc/IlohaMail/new_user.php

Note that instead of login.inc it ships with login.php. Moving login.inc
to login.php solved my main problem. My changes to login_blurb.inc and
login_title.inc where preserved; so it seems to work in general ;)

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

PS:  I still think it's an rc bug, since my config was not used anymore;
should at least be added to the release notes.

Bug#419642: New List: debian-infrastructure

2007-04-17 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

* Raphael Hertzog [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070417 14:10]:

 Like Frans, I wonder why another list is needed. debian-devel-announce is
 OK from my point of view. The day where it's cluttered with announces of
 downtime, we can probably reconsider the question.

Let's have a look...

   . alpha buildd is moving, downtime expected
   . ftp-master moved to new bandwidth donator
   . New sparc porting machine added to the network

That's mostly interesting for developers, and could be send to d-d-a.

   . IPv6 available for security servers
   . volatile archive moving, down for one day
   . backports now supports packages for etch and sarge

That's interesting for our users, too. I don't know, why it should be
hidden on d-d-a.

If it's planed a bit ahead it could have been added to the dwn; IMHO at
least Ipv6 and backports could have been send to -news; while I don't
think volatile moving is something which should be send to news.

 I don't see why this couldn't be on d-d-a right now. :)

I partly agree ;)

It worked very well for some time, but since two days, mbsync segfaults
while trying to sync my main maildir:

As said: It worked like a charme for about a week, and than stoped to
work without any major change on my said (beside receiving new mails ;)

I allready tried to delete new mails from the server, hoping to get it
function again. But It seems to me that didn't helped.

Any idea what might go wrong? Any additional data I should suply?

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander

 I'm still using usbmount and will try to adopt it.
 New packages should be available soon... :-)

I using it, too. Sadly I don't have the time to help with the package,
but if you need a sponsor send me a ping.

Bug#407359: icon description missing from menu entry

2007-01-18 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

* Gonéri Le Bouder [EMAIL PROTECTED] [070118 00:43]:

  It would appear the icon description is missing from the menu entry (it is
  in the .desktop entry)
 Thanks for the patch. I applied it on pkg-games SVN.

Small correction: The icon mentioned in menu-Files should be a xpm and
not a png file. Fixed in svn.

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander
