Bug#971584: libsane1: Scanner no more identified after upgrade to 1.0.31 version

2020-10-12 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Hello World,

I've had the same problem with my Canon CanoScan N650U. These are the
following steps that I had to do to make it work again.

* In the driver configuration (plustek.conf in my case): instead of just
[usb]
I had to change this section name to
[usb] 0x04A9 0x2209
I'm not sure about the exact numbers; these are the USB idVendor and
idProduct attributes

Without these numbers the "device auto" directive did not work.

* I had to create the /var/lock/sane directory with correct permissions;
it is missing and without it, the driver says something about "error
-11, lock failed"

HTH

Bug#887502: xl2tpd: Cannot setup connection, because it handles the 'lock' option incorrectly

2018-01-17 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: xl2tpd
Version: 1.3.10-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I try to setup a VPN connection, after initializing ipsec I start xl2tpd which
tries to start pppd.
I noticed the following entries in syslog:

Jan 17 14:19:36 shannara xl2tpd[11458]: start_pppd: I'm running:
Jan 17 14:19:36 shannara xl2tpd[11458]: "/usr/sbin/pppd"

Jan 17 14:19:36 shannara xl2tpd[11458]: call_close: Call 6459 to 46.140.90.130

But pppd lists 'lock' as "frequently used option". If I remove the 'lock'
option, everything works as expected.
Reports on the Internet indicate that this problem exists since version 1.3.7
of xl2tpd

If the configuration files are needed, I can send them with sensitive
information removed.

Bug#823735: steam wants to install packages which are already installed

2016-05-08 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: steam
Version: 1.0.0.52-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When I start up steam, it pops up a small xterm telling me it has to install
the following packages:
curl
python-apt
xterm
xz-util
zenity
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
libc6:i386

As a bonus there is this dpkg error:
dpkg: symbol lookup error: dpkg: undefined symbol: setexecfilecon

Then sudo asks for my password. After pressing Ctrl+C, the xterm closes and I
can play my games as usual. I have not found any problems.

During the startup and this window, the following was printed out on the window
I started steam:

Bug#821286: strongswan: Cannot create ipsec tunnel after upgrade to 5.4

2016-04-17 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Hello World,

The solution was to add
esp=3des-md5
to the configuration. The default esp line has been changed in 5.4.
Maybe a little note in the strongswan NEWS.gz file could be helpful...

It was for all applications, but I forgot to save the "Do not cover the
dock when maximizing" option. I saved it and now it works. Sorry for the
noise. This bug can be closed.

No, I think you understood it correctly.

I have never set this option before (and it worked) and now I set it,
and it still does not work. The window is maximized to the full size of
the screen and therefore a part of it is under the dock (and dock apps)
because it is set to always on top.

This is also the case in the today updated Debian version 0.95.7-3

Dear Maintainer,

After updating to 0.95.7 I maximized as always my e-mail program. To my surprise
the program window uses the whole screen although the dock is set to "always on
top". The windows is now spanned over the whole screen, but the dock hides some
elements.

I have set up my keyboard using

The accent keys work on the text console, but they do not work in X.

Bug#644680: cups: Does not find my HP LaserJet 1200 in the net after update to 1.5.0

2011-10-08 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: cups
Version: 1.5.0-8
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

After the update to version 1.5.0 I can no longer use my HP LaserJet 1200.

After the update, the printer was still listed, but showed errors when
trying to print on. So I deleted it and tried to re-install it again, but
it is no longer shown as found in the network (I use the web interface on
localhost:631).

Configuration: HP LaserJet 1200 series on a parallel cable connected to
   netGear PrintServer ps110

I can ping to the print server, but it is not found by cups and all
attempts to manually adding it failed.

Bug#632875: Bug#583734: Use forked git repository for wmaker source

Yes, the maintainer is MIA, the package has been orphaned on 6th of
July 2011. See http://bugs.debian.org/632875 for the details.

The last two uploads (2010-Apr-09, 2009-Jul-03) were non-maintainer
uploads, anyway. See http://packages.qa.debian.org/w/wmaker.html for
details.

So we can and should ignore John's comment about working on packaging
the -crm branch... Nobody currently really cares about Windowmaker in
Debian.

That's not quite true. The mentioned git repository was updated and
commit b949a1c4647130202a7b9ff9c50cf1e30fbe454d had a lot of Debian
updates from Rodolfo García Peñas (kix). Unfortunately kix has no time
to be the official maintainer for the wmaker package in Debian as he has
a lot of other packages.

So If you _do_ care about Windowmaker in Debian, you should change
that by stepping up and help getting the package back in shape,
probably by switching to the -crm branch as upstream project. (For
those who are reading the Cc of this mail to the orphaning bug report,
see http://bugs.debian.org/583734 for details.)

If there is someone willing to maintain this package, the -crm branch is
IMHO the best starting point...

Best regards
Andreas

Bug#597869: RM: cvsnt -- ROM; No longer interested

2010-09-23 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

There are two reasons for me:
1) I am no longer interested in CVSNT, I switched to a DVCS
2) The availability of the package is no longer granted. Upstream changed
their policy: They sell the so called Community Edition (including the
full source as requested by the GPL). There is an anonynous CVS access to
the source for maintainers like me, but it's not sure how long this will
last (in the fine print was stated that it could be withdrawn without prior
notice)

Other than that, there is a RC bug (security related) in unstable (it has
been fixed in testing/stable by the security team)

In light of 2) we should rather remove it than continuing to include

I fully agree. Do I need to do something to remove it?

Bug#593886: O: cvsnt -- Improved multiplatform version of the original CVS

2010-08-21 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the cvsnt package.

The package description is:
CVSNT is an advanced multiplatform version control system. Compatible
with the industry standard CVS protocol it now supports many more
 features.

[snip]

 See http://www.cvsnt.org/wiki/ for further information

There are two reasons for orphaning:
1) I don't use it anymore. I have switched to a DVCS
2) Upstream will sell cvsnt (community edition as they call it) in the future.
This is possible in compliance with the GPL. For a possible future maintainer,
there is a free and anonymous CVS read access, but this can be terminated
without further notice at any time.

The package suffers a critical bug and should be updated or even better
removed from Debian.

If someone wants to step up and maintain the package, I'm glad to hand over
everything I have.

2010-03-30 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: openoffice.org-calc

If you try to rename an existing table in openoffice.org-calc or try to
insert a new table, the upcoming dialog shows either nothing (rename) or
only parts of what should be shown (insert). Therefore you're no longer
able to rename an existing table (Insert works, because a part of the
[OK] button is shown, but you cannot chose the name).

~/.xsession script with the following command-line:

root-tail -f -g 538x320+8+64 -font '-*-fixed-*-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-iso10646-*' \
  /var/log/messages,green /var/log/exim4/mainlog,yellow /var/log/kern.log,red

The program works as it used to do in the past.

I am no longer able to reproduce the bug. The program works (again) as
expected. This bug can be closed.

Best regards
Andreas

Bug#563530: cvsnt: superfluous information in package description

2010-01-04 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Ansgar Burchardt wrote:

Package: cvsnt
Version: 2.5.04.3236-1

Hi,

Thank you for your patch...

there is some superfluous information in the package description.
As all software included in Debian is DFSG-free there is no need
to state that cvsnt is Open Source software.

Sure. I just took this sentence from the former homepage of cvsnt

Also the Homepage field should direct users to a more informative
page instead of the download page.

I would like to if there were any. The problem is that March Hare, the
company that supports cvsnt is (of course) more interested to sell cvsnt
instead of having people just downloading it.

The pattached patch replaces the Homepage field with the URL from
the package description and removes the superfluous information.
Please consider applying it to the next release.

Thank you. I will apply it; maybe I'll find a better Homepage somewhere...

Best regards
Andreas

I have a series of tables on my sheet and I print only one of them at

Although the space for selected the table on the paper is more than
enough, OOo-calc prints it on two pages, just like it would print
the whole sheet.

This worked about a month ago, because this was the last time I
printed that way (my monthly bills)

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Bug#519985: audacious: Update to new GTK version

2009-03-16 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: audacious
Version: 1.5.1-4
Severity: important

audacious shows the playlist more or less correctly, but all other
visual components, especially the main window, and the equalizer ar
completely unusable:
The main window shows only the top 4 or 5 pixels, the rest is not
painted
The equalizer is once painted, but than no longer re-painted.

In the .xsession-error file I get a lot of the following errors:
GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_copy_area: assertion `src_pixbuf !=
NULL` failed

I think this started when GTK was updated, so I suppose an update to the
new version would fix this problem.

Bug#506801: cvsnt: Missing includes of limits.h

2008-11-24 Thread Andreas Tscharner

James Westby wrote:

Hi,

Hello,

You package failed to build in Ubuntu where we currently
use a newer compiler that is more strict about #includes:

What version? I am currently preparing the new upstream 2.5.04.3236
which compiles fine here with gcc-4.3 and I have even corrected a bug
that was filed for gcc-4.4

If you have time, could you please check the new version?

Either the source tarball at
http://www.cvsnt.org/wiki/Download
or a RC package at
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=cvsnt

I've just noticed that on Mentors, there is still RC9, but it should
compile fine anyway. I'll upload the package with the correct source
tonight (MET)

Hi,

I strongly support that request, because I have now problems with my
calendar on the network using 0.8 (Debian) at home and 0.9 (WinXP) at
work. For example I have to dismiss a lot of old events on one machine
and cannot dismiss or snooze events on the other machine.

Hi,

Hello,

The short description for cvsnt is not very informative and I
believe also not policy compliant.

Perhaps: improved version of the CVS version control system or
something similar?

Thank you for your information. I will change it for the next release
which should be released soon (waiting for new upstream release which is
in RC state)

2008-07-21 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Bug#466408: Failure of Drop-In Compatibility with Old Repository

2008-07-08 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Barak A. Pearlmutter wrote:

Didn't mean to cause trouble - my thought was to make it easier, via a
miniscule amount of documentation, for people to transition without
getting burnt. After all, since cvsnt is active etc, it would be good
to transition everyone off tired old cvs and onto shiny new cvsnt.

I guess I'd say that it would be nice if the description of the cvsnt
package made it clear that it *is* a drop-in replacement for the cvs
package for *clients*, but that for servers some minimal configuration
is required; and a brief /usr/share/doc/cvsnt/README.server saying
what needs to be done so repositories in arbitrary locations will
work.

I have updated the README.Debian, making it clear (hopefully) that CVSNT
server is not drop-in compatible to GNU CVS server. A will create a new
package as soon as CVSNT 2.5.04 is released which is due ... When?
Arthur? :-)

Yes, of course. It seems I was somewhat confused when I wrote the bug report

works correctly on my desktop system on a 1280x1024 screen.

Works for me. (I do have a 1280x800 resolution)

I at least can see one full line of it and the scroolbars.
(but only until I minimize the window to a size where there some space
left above it). In fullscreen or if it has the whole vertical screen
size it works.

I have resized the window several times to no avail. Usually I work on
full screen, e.g. 1214x800 (1280 - 64 pixels of the dock from
WindowMaker). I've just tried with real full screen (1280x800), but
this didn't work either...

Bug#466408: Failure of Drop-In Compatibility with Old Repository

2008-02-19 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Barak A. Pearlmutter wrote:

Package: cvsnt
Version: 2.5.03.2382-3

I have a machine MY_CVS_SERVER_HOST running cvs (1:1.12.13-8) with a
repository in /home/cvs and clients accessing it via SSH.

I upgraded a client from cvs (1:1.12.13-8) to cvsnt (2.5.03.2382-3),
and everything worked fine: cd sandbox; cvs update; no problem.

Then I upgraded the server, and did a cvs update on the client, and
got this.

$ cat CVS/Root
:ext:MY_CVS_SERVER_HOST:/home/cvs
$ cvs update
cvs [server aborted]: /home/cvs: no such repository

Thank you for sending this bug.

When I regressed ther server back from cvsnt to GNU cvs, everything
worked fine once again.

This problem isn't discussed in /usr/share/doc/cvsnt/, nor could I
find it in the cvsnt wiki. The closest thing I saw was
http://www.cvsnt.org/wiki/MoveFromLinux which discusses moving a
repository from GNU CVS on GNU/Linux to CVSNT on MS Windows. But I'm
not switching OSes here. The page
http://www.cvsnt.org/wiki/InstallationLinux also does not seem to have
anything relevant.

I suspect that I am not unique in this situation, so it would be nice
if the documentation would explain the right way to do this migration.

In fact, there is not much documentation about this. The problem is,
that you have to define your repository configuration in the file

/etc/cvsnt/PServer
Despite of the name (PServer), the configuration is valid for all
protocols. You could copy the file PServer.example that should already
be in this directory and edit it that it fits your needs/situation (the
file itself is fairly good documented). If you need help about this,
don't hesitate to mail again.

I am going to document that better in the next version of cvsnt

Best regards
Andreas

Bug#464841: cvsnt: Package won't uninstall unless cvslockd is running

2008-02-10 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Steve Cotton wrote:

Package: cvsnt
Version: 2.5.03.2382-3+b1

cvslockd fails to start on my system (presumably bug #441236 ),
so I tried to reinstall the older cvs package.

If cvslockd isn't running, the package can't be uninstalled:

tsunami:~# dpkg -r --force-all cvsnt
(Reading database ... 136960 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing cvsnt ...
Stopping CVSNT Lock Server Daemon: invoke-rc.d: initscript cvsnt, action stop
failed.
dpkg: error processing cvsnt (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
Starting CVSNT Lock Server Daemon: cvslockd.

Thank you for reporting this bug. A new version of cvsnt is (hopefully)
coming soon (RC3 is out). As soon as this happens, I'll package a new
version and fix the script...

Thank you for reporting this bug. I unfortunately have no 64bit systemm
here, so I cannot test it for myself.

If you have some spare time, could you try the following:

1) Instead of removing mini.so, does setting

ResponderType=0

in /etc/cvsnt/PServer help as well? This tunrs off zeroconf...

2) I have a report from another user, concerning an older bug, but with
the same effect (crashing the lock server), that NOT using tmpfs for
/tmp and having enough space on /tmp should work. But as I said, it was
for an older bug and may be completely unrelated.

I have filed a bug upstream [BUG 5076]:

Bug#428436: Can't type umlauts with us international keyboard

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.2.1~rc3-3
Severity: important

I have installed openoffice.org with the german language pack, but I
have an US international keyboard. For the german umlauts, I use the
following key combination:

First:
Then: [aou]
(pressing the does nothing, until [aou] is pressed).
This works in all applications except OpenOffice.org.
I know it worked in version 2.0 and probably in 2.1, but it does not
work any more in 2.2

Not here it doesn't. Can you give me more information (how you're
starting it, a screenshot, something) so that I can debug it a little?
I'm afraid I just can't reproduce this at all, sorry.

I'm using it in WindowMaker and I call it in

~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/autostart

I call it in the following manner:
root-tail -g 800x100+650+850 /var/log/messages,green
~/.xsession-errors,blue

(all in one line)

Attached a small screenshot, showing the distance between the two lines.
I also tried to catch a strace output, but somehow I'm not able to
redirect it to a file...

TIA and best regards
Andreas

Yes it helps. I suspect lightning, because the Standalone Calendar does
not quit correctly either...

I think this bug can be closed.

Best regards and sorry for bothering

Bug#407860: icedove: Does not quit properly

2007-01-21 Thread Andreas Tscharner
Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.9.dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

icedove does not quit properly any more. No matter how I try to close
the application, a
ps ax
still shows to following three processes:

4688 ?Ss 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/icedove
4692 ?S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/lib/icedove/run-mozilla.sh /usr/lib/iced
4697 ?Sl 4:09 /usr/lib/icedove/icedove-bin

The application window, however is not visible any more.

I have enigmail (latest [installed from Debian, then updated
using the internal functionality]), lightning (0.6a1) and leet installed

Best regards
Andreas

Bug#398411: cvsnt: FTBFS on 64 bit arches: cannot convert 'int*' to 'SQLLEN*'

2006-11-14 Thread Andreas Tscharner

Kurt Roeckx wrote:

works. Unfortunately I have no 64bit system...

I guess it depends on what you mean with works. It will make it
build, but it'll cause problem at runtime.

You have is:
std::mapint,SQLINTEGER m_sqli
and:
typedef long SQLLEN;
typedef int SQLINTEGER;

and sizeof(long) != sizeof(int)

What looks like a better thing to do is change the SQLINTEGER to an
SQLLEN, if that's what it contains.

The attached patch makes it build for me.

Thank you for the patch. I'll make a new package this week and send the
patch to upstream.

Best regards
Andreas

Your package is failing to build on 64 bit arches with the following

Could you please try if an explicit cast

works. Unfortunately I have no 64bit system...
