Hi Peter,

Oh my gosh.  Losing formatting would indeed be not severe.
Distorting contents is IS severe, especially if this goes unnoticed.
Heaven knows how much text has already been and will be silently
changed in all the years of Debian 12.  Therefore, a kind request:
please push it into the next update of Debian (12.1) or at least one
of the next updates.

I guess this is [1] according to [2]. I'll try to do something, but it
won't be for 12.1, which will be released soon.

I used that one [1], but it does not solve the issue. ;-(

I put patches from ad3b0d706c71bb6f3309a236e98e8fb644121bc6 &
be0377afd9573be47495ac97be42ecc4dae5f0a2 into the repo and it seems to
solve the issue. Maybe one of the patches is surplus.

As said: the first point release is around the corner, I'll try to push
the fix to 12.2.

@Hilmar: A typo. I meant: The message sequence [2] in the NTG mailing list is
correct. I cannot judge about the code [1]. If my memory serves me right, the
actual change might have happened a few revisions later.  Still, no guarantee.
So if you can't find the right revision, it's probably safer not to do anything
despite severe effects.
@Hans: Any idea about which revision or revisions fix
http://bugs.debian.org/1018206 ?

I assume the issue not severe enough to prepare a fix for bookworm. Fix

As far as I understand this is an issue in the luatex binary. So I

As described in https://tex.stackexchange.com/q/652458
https://tex.stackexchange.com/q/652458, luatex loses or changes text
(not formatting!) in particular circumstances. According to
https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/dev-luatex/2022-July/006684.html
https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/dev-luatex/2022-July/006684.html,
this seems to be repaired in the revision 7531 in TL 2023 (perhaps a
revision or two later). I know it's a long stretch, but I'd welcome
it if, for proper testing, the fix finds its way into Debian, ideally
into Debian stable, better sooner than later.

Tagging as fixed in upstream, will be in next TL upstream.
