By the way 'asap' means As soon as possible, not not year.
Well nothing prevented users from following the documentation and using
module-assistant along with nvidia-kernel-source to build the modules
themselves. There is no automated way for the modules to get built
(yet), so it is a manual operation for someone to actually make them to
get them included in the archive, which so far only ever seems to get
done late in the release cycle.
