Justification: uninstallable in unstable (policy 5.3)

Hi!

A new release of jack-audio-connection-kit (0.100.0-2) has been uploaded
to Debian unstable. The old library libjack0.80.0-0 (and
libjack0.80.0-dev) have been removed and replaced with libjack0.100.0-0
and libjack0.100.0-dev since the API changed in some parts. For most
packages that means a simple rebuild.

Since libjack0.80.0 has been removed from unstable, this is a
release-critical issue.

A few notes about how to resolve this bug:

   1. Please Build-Depend only on libjack0.100.0-dev. Build-Depending
on libjack-dev as a virtual alternative allows the autobuilders to
build against the old libjack0.80.0 if they find it. (Versioned
   virtual dependencies probably don't work.)

   2. There are some packages (like for example xmms-jackasyn) which
accidently obtain a dependency on libjack0.80.0-0 but do not
Build-Depend on it. In my opinion this is incorrect. But if you want
to maintain that indirect dependency, you will have to coordinate
with the package's maintainer whose package you are build-depending
on (libjackasyn-dev in the case of xmms-jackasyn) and and only upload
your package (xmms-jackasyn; with a suitable _versioned_
build-dependency on the other package, libjackasy-dev) iff the other
package has already been uploaded (and built on as many architectures
as possible to lighten the pressure of failed builds). =20
  =20
   3. If this transition collides with the C++ transition for your
package (because it may be/contain a C++ library), then please follow
the timeline of the C++ transition instead of this one.

(Thanks to Adeodato Sim=C3=B3 for these hints).

A list of the packages for each maintainer and a list of the affected
source packages has been attached.

Robert.

Bug#317082: libc6-s390x: missing depends on lib64gcc1

I'm filling the bug here rather than on the gcc-VERSION packages because
   the
sparc64 packages have the dependency in libc6-sparc64, and not the gcc
   packages.

According to #258647, the latest glibc.deb in svn already removed the
Depends: lib64gcc1 entry. So I think it should be fixed in gcc
packages instead of libc6-s390x. How about this idea?

I don't know of a good way to handle the 64bit dependencies. We do not
want to unconditionally depend on the non-default biarch packages.
dh_shlibdeps doesn't work for 64bit packages, so you have to hand-code
 all the dependencies ...

maybe dpkg-shlibdeps could use objdump -x instead of ldd to determine
 the needed library dependencies?

I tested this problem on sparc64, dpkg-shlibdeps detects lib64gcc1 -
even if libc6 does not depend on it. BTW, during this issue, I found
the following problem on s390x:

  gotom01:/tmp cat a.c
  int main() { return 0; }
  gotom01:/tmp gcc a.c -m64

 Oh well, whatever.

It doesn't conflict with the C++ transition at all. Those packages that
are C++ have to do both transitions at once, those that do not, should
fix it now.

Acutally, for the C++ packages that use jack, the jack transition is
even less painfull during a C++ transition than before or after it since
the packages are uninstallable anyway because of the C++ transition ;-]

There was the suggestion to leave the old library. But that doesn't work
because of jackd.

Having uninstallable packages is one of the attributes of unstable.

It makes it harder because the jack transition is bound up with whatever
other C++ library transitions are also involved, meaning that all related
packages must be ready to transition into testing at the same time.

Oh yes. True.

Acutally I'm very sorry the JACK transition hit the C++ transition
(actually the C++ transition hit JACK since JACK started more than a week
earlier ;-).

I would have actually applied for a spot on the TODO list for etch but
IIRC someone said that simple SONAME changes don't have to be
allocated.

Sorry again.

Bug#318231: Console gets garbled when starting X

2005-07-14 Thread Svante Signell
Package: xserver-xorg
Vsrsion: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-2
Severity: Serious

The console screen gets completely garbled when starting X.org.
Going back to the console C-A-{F1-F6} or exiting X gives the same
result. X works fine, also with C-A-Fx to C-A-F7. The font seems to be
black with a black background. The mouse prompter and the cursor is
white and visible. The console has a blue frame all around the screen.
stty sane does not work.

I have upgraded from 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14. The old configuration file ir
reused: XF86Config-4 was copied and renamed by the install to xorg.conf.

Bug#318232: The etch daily netinstaller images have a broken isolinux.cfg - This makes the iso almost completly unuseable!

2005-07-14 Thread Richard Hartmann
Package: installation-reports
Severity: critical

Debian-installer-version: 050713 official testing netinst image
Date: 13.07.05
Method: How did you install? What did you boot off? If network
  install, from where? Proxied?

Machine: Self-built machine from ~2003
Processor: Amd Athlon 1800+
Memory: 512MB
Root Device: Samsung Spinpoint with 160 GB
Root Size/partition table: preconfigured to 50 MB /boot, 512 MB swap, the rest
(~150 GB) /

Initial boot worked:[E]
Configure network HW: [ ]
Config network: [ ]
Detect CD: [ ]
Load installer modules: [ ]
Detect hard drives: [ ]
Partition hard drives: [ ]
Create file systems:[ ]
Mount partitions: [ ]
Install base system:[ ]
Install boot loader:[ ]
Reboot: [ ]

This problem patch apply to _both_ the netinst and the businesscard images!
I filed this bug as critical, not grave, as it makes the whole installer and
thus, in turn, various packages rather useless. Unless you want to only
install 2.4 ;)

The problem is that while _most_ of the entries in /isolinux/isolinux.cfg
point to /install/(2.6)linux, the actual kernel images are
named /install/(2.6)vmlinuz

-- This looks as follows: --

As you can easily see, you will only be able to correctly load install24 (this
also being DEFAULT), expert24 and rescue24.

The obvious fix is to either choose one of the two names or to create
softlinks. As the current image holds kernels named vmlinuz, my suggested
solution would be to just replace the /install/(2.6)/linux occurences with
vmlinuz.

Bug#318233: avifile: FTBFS: please rebuild against latest libsdl1.2

Package: avifile
Severity: serious

Please rebuild avifile against the latest libsdl1.2 (1.2.7
+1.2.8cvs20041007-5.1 ).
This has changed significantly due to the libslang2, aalib and xorg
transitions, and drip will currently fail to build from source.
rebuilding should fix this and drop unnecessary dependencies on slang.
(due to aalib changes).

Rather, the package should be rebuilt, allowing the correct new dependency
to be picked up via shlibs.

Now that libsdl1.2-dev is installable again this can be fixed. Patch

 hi,

please stop. i'm working to the upcoming 1.33.0 release. this will
handle the transition to gcc 4.0 in the simplest, safest and cleanest way.
i'm already testing it with gcc 4.0. i'm planning a release in few days.

BTW, i don't think it is a good idea to distribute boost binaries built
with a compiler that has never seen the boost regression test suite.

Is there a reason that the boost regression test suite is not part of the
package build?

Thanks,

Wrong, all wrong. Virtual package names should be added the c2 as well,
conflicts and provides too. All will seriously break with this patch.
Correct packages are waiting on my hard drive. Please don't upload that,
even when lam4 is ready.

 NMU lam4!

On second thought this probably requires NUMing mpich as well, as the
mpich version seems to be statically linked to libpmpich++. I'll see if
I have time for these.

Hello!

i'm already testing it with gcc 4.0. i'm planning a release in few days.

Ok. Thanks.

BTW, i don't think it is a good idea to distribute boost binaries built
with a compiler that has never seen the boost regression test suite.

I got uneasy as well but ooking on the boost webpage, there was no newer
release yet.
Sure. What do you think about running the testsuite on each build?

Bug#318261: nedit: does not start up after installing xserver-xorg (x opcode failure)

2005-07-14 Thread frode
Package: nedit
Version: 1:5.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After the last apt-get dist-upgrade, which brought in the X.org X
server, nedit fails to start, and instead gives the following error
message:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 70 (X_PolyFillRectangle)
Serial number of failed request: 314
Current serial number in output stream: 324

A workaround is to download and use the nedit binaries from
www.nedit.org, which does not exhibit this behaviour.

Here's the last lines from running ltrace nedit:

Justification: breaks unrelated software

Hi,

since the release of sarge a few changes have happened and fakeroot
needs to adopt to them:

The current source misbuilds (doesn't build) all biarch systems since
dpkg-architecture added -gnu to all gnu name. This of cause makes
any biarch needing package FTBFS on the buildds with fakeroot. There
was a post on debian-devel how to stay compatible with sarge and etch
versions.

The other change is that gcc-4.0 is now the default gcc and fakeroot
should drop the Build-Depends on gcc-3.4 and stick with gcc for amd64
too.

Bug#318258: Dependency problem: pdl requires xlibmesa-glu to install though libglu1-xorg

Indeed, pdl depends on xlibmesa-glu but this package conflicts with
the installed libglu1-xorg whose desinstallation would trigger the
 desinstallation of the xbase-clients package...

I guess that making pdl depends on xlibmesa-glu | libglu1-xorg would
solve the problem; my 2 cents..

well, this dependency is generated by dpkg-shlibdeps, so this will be fixed
by my next pdl upload to debian, which I am preparing now.

xfree86-driver-synaptics is a driver for the Synaptics TouchPad for X.Org and
XFree86 4.x. (cf http://web.telia.com/~u89404340/touchpad/index.html)

It depends on xserver-xfree86 (4.1.0) and not xserver-xorg

Package: asterisk-oh323
Version: 0.6.6pre3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The asterisk-oh323 package version 0.6.6pre3-3 was linked expecting the
ast_smoother_feed symbol to be in the /usr/sbin/asterisk executable. The
problem is that the symbol is present as __ast_smoother_feed and thus
chan_oh323.so does not find it. Because of this, when Asterisk starts
and tries to load the chan_oh323.so module it aborts because the symbol
cannot be found.

The following error message is logged to /var/log/asterisk/messages when
this happens:

Jul 13 19:37:26 WARNING[2373]: /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/chan_oh323.so:
undefined symbol: ast_smoother_feed
Jul 13 19:37:26 WARNING[2373]: Loading module chan_oh323.so failed!

The problem can be seen by running these commands:

# objdump -T /usr/sbin/asterisk | grep ast_smoother_feed
08054698 gDF .text 01bd Base__ast_smoother_feed

~# objdump -T /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/chan_oh323.so | grep
ast_smoother_feed
  D *UND* ast_smoother_feed

Looking at the Asterisk headers it looks like the asterisk package is at
fault, because in line 378 of /usr/include/asterisk/frame.h the
function's prototype is:

extern int ast_smoother_feed(struct ast_smoother *s, struct ast_frame *f);

A workaround to this problem without uninstalling asterisk-oh323 is to
add the following line to /etc/asterisk/modules.conf:

noload = chan_oh323.so

Package: asterisk-oh323
Version: 0.6.6pre3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The asterisk-oh323 package version 0.6.6pre3-3 was linked expecting the
ast_smoother_feed symbol to be in the /usr/sbin/asterisk executable. The
problem is that the symbol is present as __ast_smoother_feed and thus
chan_oh323.so does not find it. Because of this, when Asterisk starts
and tries to load the chan_oh323.so module it aborts because the symbol
cannot be found.

The following error message is logged to /var/log/asterisk/messages when
this happens:

Jul 13 19:37:26 WARNING[2373]: /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/chan_oh323.so:
undefined symbol: ast_smoother_feed
Jul 13 19:37:26 WARNING[2373]: Loading module chan_oh323.so failed!

The problem can be seen by running these commands:

# objdump -T /usr/sbin/asterisk | grep ast_smoother_feed
08054698 gDF .text 01bd Base__ast_smoother_feed

~# objdump -T /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/chan_oh323.so | grep
ast_smoother_feed
  D *UND* ast_smoother_feed

Looking at the Asterisk headers it looks like the asterisk package is at
fault, because in line 378 of /usr/include/asterisk/frame.h the
function's prototype is:

extern int ast_smoother_feed(struct ast_smoother *s, struct ast_frame *f);

A workaround to this problem without uninstalling asterisk-oh323 is to
add the following line to /etc/asterisk/modules.conf:

noload = chan_oh323.so

libxinerama* packages. As a consequence, linker does not work with what
xosd-cofig --libs produces, rendering the package unusable.

Yes, this is now a shared library in the libxinerama* packages, so there's
no need for a _pic.a anymore. The package should be updated to use
 -lXinerama instead of -lXinerama_pic.

Apparently the autostuff already has support for this, so adding
libxinerama-dev to dependancies and a rebuild are sufficient (i.e. they
work for me to build ekg2).

I'm attaching a patch. I intend to NMU - waiting the usual period is
quite unconvenient for me (I cannot upload ekg2), so I would appreciate
an authorization from Philipp ASAP.

Bug#318290: libapache2-request-perl: Upload is broken. Only one upload can be retrieved

2005-07-14 Thread Peter Mogensen
Package: libapache2-request-perl
Version: 2.04-dev-1.bone1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Upload support is seriously broken. The parser does not scan all input.
Only on uploaded file can be retrieved making perl module Apache::Upload
basicly useless.
The problem is fixed upstream in 2.05-dev, but because of the mod_perl2
API changes this might be difficult to install.
On the other hand, the problem is easy to fix by patching 2.04-dev in
Sarge. Here's the patch from upstream SVN:
http://www.mail-archive.com/apreq-cvs@httpd.apache.org/msg00882.html
It seems the return values (0/1) has just been mixed up in
src/apreq_params.c

Applying this small patch makes Apache::Upload usable again.

Thanks for your work. As I have told you right now, I don't have any problem
for the NMU, but I was only surprised as you're sitting right now only
10 metres away from me ;-)

For the list: for now the package is in NEW, and we can tell
ftp-masters to reject it before they approve it. I am going to try to
compile libopenh323 right now, and if everything is fine, I will make
an upload of both pwlib (to ack the NMU) and openh323. After that,
every app depending on openh323 will have to recompiled. Please check
C++ ABI transition if you have any doubt[1] or ask here in the list.

Of course, this can make some things to break temporarly,
but folks, this is unstable after all!

Bug#318302: aspell-da: aspell can not load danish language.

2005-07-14 Thread Peter Mogensen
Package: aspell-da
Version: 1.4.49-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

On Sarge you get this result:
$ aspell -a -l da
Error: /usr/lib/aspell-0.60/da.rws: The language dansk is not known.
This is probably because: the file /usr/lib/aspell-0.60/dansk.dat can
not be opened for reading.

These symlinks makes danish aspell work again:
/usr/lib/aspell-0.60# ln -s da.dat dansk.dat
/usr/lib/aspell-0.60# ln -s da_phonet.dat dansk_phonet.dat

I don't know the structure of the aspell system. There's probably a
better way to fix this by defining an alias somewhere, but as it is
now the package does not work.

Robert.

Bug#315703: woody backport now available for all cacti security issues

2005-07-14 Thread Sean Finney
On Wed, Jul 13, 2005 at 06:28:21PM +0200, Martin Schulze wrote:
I guess we're facing a severe problem here.

Even though you say that my fixes were not sufficient, you have
***removed*** a fair amount of the patches I've applied after
reading the code that uses unsanitised variables. I now see
that you've placed sanitising into the config file entirely,
would have been nice to note this.

i guess i didn't in the email updating this, but did so in sanitize.php
itself:

/*
 * backported security-related changes from cacti
 * by sean finney [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 *
 * to preserve my own sanity, all sanity checks are done in here, which
 * is included by the main configuration, which is included by everything.
 * variables that don't exist will not raise failures, so only in the case
 * that the input exists and is not what it is supposed to be will there
 * be an error.
 */

Additionally you seem to be using get_request_var only which
uses the $_GET array, but not the $_REQUEST array, and hence
can be bypassed by POST or cookie input if I am not mistaken.
This was not the case in the version I sent you.

the problem with using _REQUEST is that someone could provide a valid
_POST variable, but sneak the malcious content into _GET, which would
then pass a _REQUEST test (assuming order gpc), but if the system uses
_GET it still uses the malicious content. this is most of the cause of
the second set of advisorires.

however, now that i think about it, since i think most variables in
the woody version of cacti are using register_globals, a variable like
$id will be set in the same order as $_REQUEST, so maybe that isn't a
bad idea.

now that i think about it even more, what would be best is to run the
sanity check on all of the _GET, _POST, _COOKIE variables, and fail
if any of them have bad values. that would make the patch even
simpler.

In addition to that you also clutter sanitize.php with sanitising
variables that aren't even used. That's not ok.

aren't even used on a specific page or aren't used at all in cacti? in
the case of the former, it causes no problems (apart from a couple extra
cycles, which i think is OK in the interest of a cleaner patch). in the
case of the latter, the lines should be removed--though again it doesn't
hurt to have it there.

PS: ... and the distribution needs to be set to oldstable-security

okay. so this is what i will do in the next week:

- modify sanitize.php to check all three _FOO arrays for bad values and
quit out if any of them are bad.
- double check sanitize.php for globally unused variables.
- update the distribution name.

how does that sound?

Yes, but the woody version does not use $_GET *anywhere* except in

Thanks -- I will take care of that next week once I'm back in the country. I
will simply roll python2.2 off the list of supported arches.

When building 'aiksaurus' on amd64 I get the following error:

Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
E: Package libstdc++2.10-dev has no installation candidate
E: Failed to satisfy Build-Depends dependency for aiksaurus: libstdc++2.10-dev
Package libstdc++2.10-dev is not available, but is referred to by another

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

With the attached patch 'aiksaurus' can be compiled on amd64.

Package: libapache2-mod-perl2
Version: 1.999.21-1
Severity: serious

I think breaking every dependant package of libapache2-mod-perl2 in
unstable is a Bad Idea.

It would be a lot smoother to keep such a major change in Experimental
until dependant package maintainers have uploaded their changes to
Experimental and then do a graceful transistion. That's what
Experimental is for.

As it is, I've had to downgrade until such time as the dependendant
package mainers have had a chance to catch up.

My particular problem is with libapache-gallery-perl, but I imagine
everyone's affected.

Thanks for the NEWS line, though.

Package: libapache2-mod-perl2
Version: 1.999.23-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Registry.pm is missing from new libapache2-mod-perl2 debian package
(unstable distribution).
This causing errors in apache2/error.log:

failed to resolve handler `ModPerl::Registry': Can't locate ModPerl/Registry.pm
in
@INC (@INC contains: /local/www/html /etc/perl .

The whole mod_perl2 because unusable therefore.

Everything works fine with the version 1.999.21-1.

Bug#318363: allegro-config --libs lists -lXxf86dga

2005-07-14 Thread Matt Kraai
Package: liballegro-dev
Version: 2:4.1.15-5
Severity: serious

The output of allegro-config --libs contains -lXxf86dga, but
libXxf86dga is no longer available. This prevents alogg from
building.

Bug#318364: FTBFS: Unsatisfiable build-dependency on aalib1-dev

2005-07-14 Thread Matt Kraai
Package: aatv
Version: 0.3-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

aatv fails to build because it build-depends on aalib1-dev, which has
been renamed libaa1-dev:

 - Considering aalib1-dev
   - Trying aalib1-dev
   - Cannot install aalib1-dev; apt errors follow:
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Package aalib1-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  libaa1-dev
E: Package aalib1-dev has no installation candidate
E: Could not satisfy build-dependency.
E: pbuilder-satisfydepends failed.

The attached patch fixes this error.

Bug#317244: libapache-mod-fastcgi: assumes (?) webserver runs as nobody:nogroup and fails to start

2005-07-14 Thread Tatsuki Sugiura
Hello,

In Message Bug#317244: libapache-mod-fastcgi: assumes (?) webserver runs
as nobody:nogroup and fails to start
[EMAIL PROTECTED],
 Chris Wage [EMAIL PROTECTED]  said;
It would appear that perhaps the module was compiled expecting the server to
 be
running as nobody:nogroup rather than www-data:www-data, which is the case in
Debian. You can of course simply make the /var/lib/apache/fastcgi folder
writeable by the nobody user, or the nogroup group, which allows apache to
start, but fastcgi scripts still fail because the webserver cannot write to
 the
fastcgi folder (it creates the dynamic/ folder owned by nobody and mode 0700)

FastCGI module don't expect apache is running as nobody.
When root is going to start apache, the module will get uid/gid from
Apache API (ap_user_id/ap_group_id).

You can check it with minimal config file like following;

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% cat fcgitest-apache.conf
User www-data
Group www-data
LoadModule fastcgi_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_fastcgi.so
FastCgiIpcDir /home/sugi/fcgiipctest

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% ls -ld fcgiipctest
d- 2 sugi sugi 48 2005-07-15 12:34 fcgiipctest/

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% id www-data
uid=33(www-data) gid=33(www-data) groups=33(www-data)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% sudo apache -f /home/sugi/fcgitest-apache.conf -T
Syntax error on line 4 of /home/sugi/fcgitest-apache.conf:
FastCgiIpcDir /home/sugi/fcgiipctest: access for server (uid 33, gid 33)
failed: read not allowed

If correct server uid/gid are shown, it works well.

FastCgiIpcDir /var/lib/apache/fastcgi: access for server (uid 65534, gid
 65534)
 failed: write not allowed

I think... perhapse, the setting User nobody was written in your apache
config.
Please check your all config files listed as

strace /usr/sbin/apache -T 21 | grep open \
  | egrep -v /(usr|lib|dev)/ | grep -v No such \
  | egrep -v /etc/(hosts|group|passwd|ld\.so|resolv\.conf|nsswitch\.conf)

Please see http://bugs.xmms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1907 for an explanation of
the problem. In short, there are certain compatibility issues with GTK+
1.2.x applications and the Composite extension, as you have discovered.

There is a work-around, however: 'export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 xmms'
Furthermore, since this doesn't affect all users (Composite is disabled by
default, and obviously for good reason), I'm lowering this bug's severity
to important.

Bug#317861: conflicting definitions of P_ALL, P_PID, and P_PGID

kbd-chooser fails to build because the definitions of P_ALL, P_PID,

  /usr/include/linux/wait.h:

   cc -c -Wall -I. -DNDEBUG=1 -fomit-frame-pointer -Os -DAT_KBD -DUSB_KBD
loadkeys.c

Where is linux/wait.h being included from? Is it necessary?

loadkeys.y includes linux/keyboard.h, which includes
linux/wait.h. loadkeys.y does use some of the macros defined in
linux/keyboard.h, so it seems like it should include it.
linux/keyboard.h does not appear to use anything from
linux/wait.h, though, so I'm not sure why it includes it.
