A new release of jack-audio-connection-kit (0.100.0-2) has been uploaded to Debian unstable. The old library libjack0.80.0-0 (and libjack0.80.0-dev) have been removed and replaced with libjack0.100.0-0 and libjack0.100.0-dev since the API changed in some parts. For most packages that means a simple rebuild. Since libjack0.80.0 has been removed from unstable, this is a release-critical issue. A few notes about how to resolve this bug: 1. Please Build-Depend only on libjack0.100.0-dev. Build-Depending on libjack-dev as a virtual alternative allows the autobuilders to build against the old libjack0.80.0 if they find it. (Versioned virtual dependencies probably don't work.) 2. There are some packages (like for example xmms-jackasyn) which accidently obtain a dependency on libjack0.80.0-0 but do not Build-Depend on it. In my opinion this is incorrect. But if you want to maintain that indirect dependency, you will have to coordinate with the package's maintainer whose package you are build-depending on (libjackasyn-dev in the case of xmms-jackasyn) and and only upload your package (xmms-jackasyn; with a suitable _versioned_ build-dependency on the other package, libjackasy-dev) iff the other package has already been uploaded (and built on as many architectures as possible to lighten the pressure of failed builds). =20 =20 3. If this transition collides with the C++ transition for your package (because it may be/contain a C++ library), then please follow the timeline of the C++ transition instead of this one. (Thanks to Adeodato Sim=C3=B3 for these hints). A list of the packages for each maintainer and a list of the affected source packages has been attached. Robert. Bug#317082: libc6-s390x: missing depends on lib64gcc1

I'm filling the bug here rather than on the gcc-VERSION packages because the sparc64 packages have the dependency in libc6-sparc64, and not the gcc packages. According to #258647, the latest glibc.deb in svn already removed the Depends: lib64gcc1 entry. So I think it should be fixed in gcc packages instead of libc6-s390x. How about this idea? I don't know of a good way to handle the 64bit dependencies. We do not want to unconditionally depend on the non-default biarch packages. dh_shlibdeps doesn't work for 64bit packages, so you have to hand-code all the dependencies ... maybe dpkg-shlibdeps could use objdump -x instead of ldd to determine the needed library dependencies? I tested this problem on sparc64, dpkg-shlibdeps detects lib64gcc1 - even if libc6 does not depend on it. Oh yes. True. Acutally I'm very sorry the JACK transition hit the C++ transition (actually the C++ transition hit JACK since JACK started more than a week earlier ;-). I would have actually applied for a spot on the TODO list for etch but IIRC someone said that simple SONAME changes don't have to be allocated. Sorry again. Bug#318232: The etch daily netinstaller images have a broken isolinux.cfg - This makes the iso almost completly unuseable!
Package: installation-reports Severity: critical Debian-installer-version: 050713 official testing netinst image Date: 13.07.05 Method: How did you install? What did you boot off? If network install, from where? Proxied? Machine: Self-built machine from ~2003 Processor: Amd Athlon 1800+ Memory: 512MB Root Device: Samsung Spinpoint with 160 GB Root Size/partition table: preconfigured to 50 MB /boot, 512 MB swap, the rest (~150 GB) / Initial boot worked:[E] Configure network HW: [ ] Config network: [ ] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Create file systems:[ ] Mount partitions: [ ] Install base system:[ ] Install boot loader:[ ] Reboot: [ ] This problem patch apply to _both_ the netinst and the businesscard images! I filed this bug as critical, not grave, as it makes the whole installer and thus, in turn, various packages rather useless. Unless you want to only install 2.4 ;) The problem is that while _most_ of the entries in /isolinux/isolinux.cfg point to /install/(2.6)linux, the actual kernel images are named /install/(2.6)vmlinuz -- This looks as follows: -- - laptop:/mnt# ls -R install/ install/: 2.6 README.sbm floppy initrd.gz sbm.bin vmlinuz install/2.6: initrd.gz vmlinuz install/floppy: boot.img cd-drivers.img root.img laptop:/mnt# -- while isolinux/isolinux.cfg looks like this: -- - laptop:/mnt# cat isolinux/isolinux.cfg DISPLAY boot.txt F1 f1.txt F2 f2.txt F3 f3.txt F4 f4.txt F5 f5.txt F6 f6.txt F7 f7.txt F8 f8.txt F9 f9.txt F0 f10.txt DEFAULT install LABEL install24 kernel /install/vmlinuz append vga=normal initrd=/install/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10154 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL expert24 kernel /install/vmlinuz append DEBCONF_PRIORITY=low vga=normal initrd=/install/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10154 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL install kernel /install/2.6/linux append vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL linux kernel /install/2.6/linux append vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL install26 kernel /install/2.6/linux append vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL linux26 kernel /install/2.6/linux append vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL expert kernel /install/2.6/linux append DEBCONF_PRIORITY=low vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL expert26 kernel /install/2.6/linux append DEBCONF_PRIORITY=low vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw -- LABEL rescue kernel /install/2.6/linux append vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw rescue/enable=true -- LABEL rescue24 kernel /install/vmlinuz append vga=normal initrd=/install/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10154 root=/dev/rd/0 rw rescue/enable=true -- LABEL rescue26 kernel /install/2.6/linux append vga=normal initrd=/install/2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk_size=10668 root=/dev/rd/0 rw rescue/enable=true -- PROMPT 1 TIMEOUT 0 laptop:/mnt# - As you can easily see, you will only be able to correctly load install24 (this also being DEFAULT), expert24 and rescue24. The obvious fix is to either choose one of the two names or to create softlinks. As the current image holds kernels named vmlinuz, my suggested solution would be to just replace the /install/(2.6)/linux occurences with vmlinuz. Bug#318139: CXX 4.0 transition
Hello! Ok. Thanks. BTW, i don't think it is a good idea to distribute boost binaries built with a compiler that has never seen the boost regression test suite. I got uneasy as well but ooking on the boost webpage, there was no newer release yet. Sure. What do you think about running the testsuite on each build? Bug#318258: Dependency problem: pdl requires xlibmesa-glu to install though libglu1-xorg
On Thu, Jul 14, 2005 at 01:42:54PM +0200, Latévi Max LAWSON DAKU wrote: I have recently updated my system, passing from the xserver-xfree86 environment to the one provided by xserver-xorg. This led to the deinstallation of many packages among which the pdl package which I heavily use but which I cannot install no more without getting into trouble for the whole system. Indeed, pdl depends on xlibmesa-glu but this package conflicts with the installed libglu1-xorg whose desinstallation would trigger the desinstallation of the xbase-clients package... I guess that making pdl depends on xlibmesa-glu | libglu1-xorg would solve the problem; my 2 cents.. well, this dependency is generated by dpkg-shlibdeps, so this will be fixed by my next pdl upload to debian, which I am preparing now. -- c u henning -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#318150: linker cannot find -lXinerama_pic
tags 318150 +patch thanks On Wed, Jul 13, 2005 at 04:28:14PM -0700, Steve Langasek wrote: On Wed, Jul 13, 2005 at 10:16:30PM +0300, Marcin Owsiany wrote: Package: libxosd-dev Severity: grave It seems that with the new Xorg in sid, Xinerama_pic.a got lost somewhere. It doesn't seem to be neither in xlibs-static-pic nor in libxinerama* packages. As a consequence, linker does not work with what xosd-cofig --libs produces, rendering the package unusable. Yes, this is now a shared library in the libxinerama* packages, so there's no need for a _pic.a anymore. The package should be updated to use -lXinerama instead of -lXinerama_pic. Bug#318290: libapache2-request-perl: Upload is broken. Only one upload can be retrieved
Package: libapache2-request-perl Version: 2.04-dev-1.bone1 Severity: grave Tags: patch Justification: renders package unusable Upload support is seriously broken. The parser does not scan all input. Only on uploaded file can be retrieved making perl module Apache::Upload basicly useless. The problem is fixed upstream in 2.05-dev, but because of the mod_perl2 API changes this might be difficult to install. On the other hand, the problem is easy to fix by patching 2.04-dev in Sarge. =20 =20 3. Bug#315703: woody backport now available for all cacti security issues

Even though you say that my fixes were not sufficient, you have ***removed*** a fair amount of the patches I've applied after reading the code that uses unsanitised variables. I now see that you've placed sanitising into the config file entirely, would have been nice to note this. i guess i didn't in the email updating this, but did so in sanitize.php itself: /* * backported security-related changes from cacti * by sean finney [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * to preserve my own sanity, all sanity checks are done in here, which * is included by the main configuration, which is included by everything. * variables that don't exist will not raise failures, so only in the case * that the input exists and is not what it is supposed to be will there * be an error. */ Additionally you seem to be using get_request_var only which uses the $_GET array, but not the $_REQUEST array, and hence can be bypassed by POST or cookie input if I am not mistaken. This was not the case in the version I sent you. the problem with using _REQUEST is that someone could provide a valid _POST variable, but sneak the malcious content into _GET, which would then pass a _REQUEST test (assuming order gpc), but if the system uses _GET it still uses the malicious content. this is most of the cause of the second set of advisorires. however, now that i think about it, since i think most variables in the woody version of cacti are using register_globals, a variable like $id will be set in the same order as $_REQUEST, so maybe that isn't a bad idea. now that i think about it even more, what would be best is to run the sanity check on all of the _GET, _POST, _COOKIE variables, and fail if any of them have bad values. that would make the patch even simpler. In addition to that you also clutter sanitize.php with sanitising variables that aren't even used. That's not ok. aren't even used on a specific page or aren't used at all in cacti? in the case of the former, it causes no problems (apart from a couple extra cycles, which i think is OK in the interest of a cleaner patch). in the case of the latter, the lines should be removed--though again it doesn't hurt to have it there. PS: ... and the distribution needs to be set to oldstable-security okay. so this is what i will do in the next week: - modify sanitize.php to check all three _FOO arrays for bad values and quit out if any of them are bad. - double check sanitize.php for globally unused variables. - update the distribution name. how does that sound? sean -- signature.asc Description: Digital signature

See this for example: finlandia!joey(pts/15):/src/debian/security/work/cacti/cacti-0.6.7 find -type f|xargs grep cdef_id ./include/sanitize.php:input_validate_input_number(get_request_var(cdef_id)); finlandia!joey(pts/15):/src/debian/security/work/cacti/cacti-0.6.7 The only use of $cdef_id is in the sanitising code. For such cases we don't need sanitising. the case of the former, it causes no problems (apart from a couple extra cycles, which i think is OK in the interest of a cleaner patch). in the I already accepted that the correction due to its size will be done centralised and hence not on each page. okay. so this is what i will do in the next week: - modify sanitize.php to check all three _FOO arrays for bad values and quit out if any of them are bad. I'd go for _REQUEST only. - double check sanitize.php for globally unused variables. - update the distribution name. how does that sound? Good. However, as I don't like the next week part too much, I'll try to work on the update on my own and send you the diff for comments. Should reduce the time you need to spend on the issue as well. Bug#317244: libapache-mod-fastcgi: assumes (?) webserver runs as nobody:nogroup and fails to start
Hello, In Message Bug#317244: libapache-mod-fastcgi: assumes (?) webserver runs as nobody:nogroup and fails to start [EMAIL PROTECTED], Chris Wage [EMAIL PROTECTED] said; It would appear that perhaps the module was compiled expecting the server to be running as nobody:nogroup rather than www-data:www-data, which is the case in Debian. You can of course simply make the /var/lib/apache/fastcgi folder writeable by the nobody user, or the nogroup group, which allows apache to start, but fastcgi scripts still fail because the webserver cannot write to the fastcgi folder (it creates the dynamic/ folder owned by nobody and mode 0700) FastCGI module don't expect apache is running as nobody. When root is going to start apache, the module will get uid/gid from Apache API (ap_user_id/ap_group_id). You can check it with minimal config file like following; [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% cat fcgitest-apache.conf User www-data Group www-data LoadModule fastcgi_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_fastcgi.so FastCgiIpcDir /home/sugi/fcgiipctest [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% ls -ld fcgiipctest d- 2 sugi sugi 48 2005-07-15 12:34 fcgiipctest/ [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% id www-data uid=33(www-data) gid=33(www-data) groups=33(www-data) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~% sudo apache -f /home/sugi/fcgitest-apache.conf -T Syntax error on line 4 of /home/sugi/fcgitest-apache.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /home/sugi/fcgiipctest: access for server (uid 33, gid 33) failed: read not allowed If correct server uid/gid are shown, it works well. FastCgiIpcDir /var/lib/apache/fastcgi: access for server (uid 65534, gid 65534) failed: write not allowed I think... perhapse, the setting User nobody was written in your apache config. Please check your all config files listed as strace /usr/sbin/apache -T 21 | grep open \ | egrep -v /(usr|lib|dev)/ | grep -v No such \ | egrep -v /etc/(hosts|group|passwd|ld\.so|resolv\.conf|nsswitch\.conf) -- Tatsuki Sugiura mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#318093: xmms: XMMS does not start with Xorg and enabled CompositeExtension
severity 318093 important forwarded 318093 http://bugs.xmms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1907 stop On July 13, 2005 12:00, Jan Christoph Uhde wrote: Package: xmms Version: 1.2.10+cvs20050209-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xmms Message: device: default Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) serial 468 error_code 8 request_code 2 minor_code 0 Please see http://bugs.xmms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1907 for an explanation of the problem. In short, there are certain compatibility issues with GTK+ 1.2.x applications and the Composite extension, as you have discovered. There is a work-around, however: 'export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 xmms' Furthermore, since this doesn't affect all users (Composite is disabled by default, and obviously for good reason), I'm lowering this bug's severity to important.
