[pkg-debianlogo] svn repository

2006-09-25 Thread Stefano Melchior
Ciao a tutti,

a qualcuno?

A presto

New essential package sysvinit-utils split out from sysvinit

2006-09-25 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

To prepare for the async boot system upstart currently in
experimental, the sysvinit source package maintainers have decided to
split out a few programs from the sysvinit binary package. The new
sysvinit-utils package will be a dependency of upstart, and the old
sysvinit package is a conflict. This is to avoid the code duplication
resulting from upstart to provide its own copy of the same programs if
this split isn't done. The new sysvinit-utils package is an essential
package, so the ftp-masters asked me to report its introduction here.

The split has been tested using debootstrap and apt, so I do not
expect any surprises with the installation system nor with upgrades
because if this split.

The new package is currently only in experimental, along with other
changes to the boot system. I plan to test the other changes from
experimental for a while before uploading to unstable.

JFYI.

Also, sysvinit is an Essential package. So how is upstart going to conflict
with it? (At least, it seems that upstart can't be usefully introduced into
Debian until etch+1, and that only if sysvinit itself is *not* going to be

Yes, sysvinit need to pre-depend on sysvinit-utils, and this is
already done. The debootstrap test also verified that this work. And
to list the steps I have taken:

- looked at how Ubuntu have done a similar split
- tested using debootstrap to verify that this do not affect the installer
- tested using aptitude upgrade to verify that it do not affect upgrades
- tested using 'dpkg -i' (need to be done in two steps because of the
pre-depend) to verify that the packages behave as they should.

I am open for suggestions on what more to test. The packages are now
available in experimental, for those interesting in testing it.

Also, sysvinit is an Essential package. So how is upstart going to

You are correct, and this is intentional. The point is to make it
easier, not trivial, to test upstart and other sysvinit replacements.
Those testing upstart will have to cope with the removal of the
essential package themselves for Etch. After Etch we might consider
making it even easier.

Which programs are going to be in the sysvinit package, and which
ones are going to be in the sysvinit-utils package, and why?

I realise I forgot to point to the discussion where the introduction
of this package have been discussed. The thread start in
URL:http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-sysvinit-devel/2006-September/001095.html.

The programs killall5, last, lastb, mesg, pidof and sulogin are moved.
they are used independently from init, and I believe it make sense to
make them available in a separate package.

Re: transition plan for apt-listbugs onto Debian infrastructure: temporarily on merkel.debian.org, then move over to bugs.debian.org

2006-09-25 Thread Junichi Uekawa
Hi,

I'm now waiting for the following two things to happen.

1. Ack on using bugs.donarmstrong.com for the time being for apt-listbugs.

2. Deployment of SOAP interface to bugs.debian.org

3. Deployment of index.*.db files on bugs.debian.org

1. Move over to merkel.debian.org for the time being, with the upload
of apt-listbugs 0.0.53

This will hit the mirrors soon-ish, there should be a bit of impact on
merkel.debian.org traffic, but not too much, since it won't enter
testing for quite a while.

This at least makes apt-listbugs work with up-to-date information,
rather than what was cached half-a-year ago.

2. When index.*.db is generated on bugs.debian.org and is available
from HTTP serving[1], and SOAP support is deployed to
bugs.debian.org[2], and SOAP support is integrated into
apt-listbugs, move over to bugs.debian.org.

If SOAP implementation doesn't work (due to load, or some other
problems), the backup plan is to export db-h directory via HTTP on
http://bugs.debian.org

apt-listbugs now supports SOAP. My local version feeds off index.*.db
from merkel.debian.org, and SOAP from bugs.donarmstrong.com.

3. When the infrastructure is ready for bugs.debian.org public
mirroring, create bugs.debian.org mirrors

This will be a future plan.

fuse is an API to implement file systems; it's not a file system by

I don't know whether coda supports locking, either; but from what I hear

Hm, I've tried to write that up in the Wiki, but I found that I don't
completely understand what you wanted. You wrote:

,
| The way to get the conffile prompt for a user-modified file is to move the
| old version of the conffile to the new location in the preinst if the old

| Since the earlier preinst code has already removed any old versions of the
| file that are known to be unmodified, this won't give any undesirable
| conffile prompts.
`

Thus far, it seems clear to me. We just need to change the preinst code
from the Wiki:

prep_mv_conffile() {
CONFFILE=$1
+ NEWCONFFILE=$2

if [ -e $CONFFILE ]; then
md5sum=`md5sum \$CONFFILE\ | sed -e \s/ .*//\`
old_md5sum=`sed -n -e \/^Conffiles:/,/^[^ ]/{' $CONFFILE'{s/.*
//;p}}\ /var/lib/dpkg/status`
if [ $md5sum = $old_md5sum ]; then
rm -f $CONFFILE
+ else
+ mv $CONFFILE $NEWCONFFILE
fi
fi
}

Now I thought that is all that needs to be done: Simply ship the
conffile, and now dpkg will

- simply install it if prep_mv_conffile has found the old one unchanged
 and removed it

- ask the desired conffile prompt if prep_mv_conffile has found it
changed and already moved to the new place.

Now all that's missing is that dpkg probably still things that the old
package is in state rc, with the conffile at the old place
registered. But that's nothing a maintainer script can solve[1].

However, you (Steve) continued:

,
| Then, if dpkg's stored md5sum for the old conffile *does*
| match that of the current shipped conffile (which you'll know because you
| still have the conffile present in the old location in the postinst), you
| would go ahead with this same code in the postinst to move it into place
| silently.
`

As explained above, I don't understand why any more code is needed at
all. Second, all this has been done in preinst already: compare md5sums
(although not with the current shipped one), move into place.

What am I missing?

Regards, Frank

[1] manually calling aptitude purge or dpkg --purge on packages in
rc is something that helps here. But this possibility means that it is
in fact desirable to rename conffiles when they are taken over by other
packages. Otherwise you can't write Transitional package. This can
savely be removed..., since people will probably understand that as or
purged.

It's unique feature, compared to other packages for managing a laptop in

anything automatically: All is in the hands of the person sitting at
the keyboard while booting.

Because of this unique feature, I think it deserves being maintained.
It's completely written in shell (bash, actually). Upstream exists and
responds to e-mail (with long delays), but upstream development is very
slow - there are simply not many improvements to make. Some
Debian-specific improvements I made, however, where rejected upstream,
so there are some differences in how the script acts. The new

Re: Compatibility between Debian amd64 and other distributions

2006-09-25 Thread Andreas Jochens
Hello,

On 06-Sep-23 02:50, Goswin von Brederlow wrote:
FHS says that 64bit libraries on amd64 go to [/usr]/lib64. All non
Debian distributions follow that line.

Gentoo uses basically the same setup as Debian, i.e. it installs 64-bit
libraries in /usr/lib and it has a symlink from /usr/lib64 to /usr/lib.

Steve Langasek had concerns about side-effects:
That probably means that a change for this would not be accepted
into etch, since fiddling library paths may have unexpected
side-effects and glibc is already frozen.

So far I have seen none.

The proposed glibc patch will break the installer. The installer does not
have the symlink from /usr/lib64 to /usr/lib. (This is not by accident.
It has been decided following some discussion.)

The proposed patch changes the 64-bit library access paths used by glibc,
i.e. (s)libdir, from (/usr)/lib to (/usr)/lib64. With this change, the
/usr/lib64 symlink would become a necessary requirement for things to work
properly. Currently, the distribution works even without the /usr/lib64
symlink.

Now I guess the release-team has to make a decision how important the
FHS and compatibility is to Debian.

The proposed patch may improve compatibility with Redhat or Novell
but it does not improve compliance with the FHS.

The relevant parts of the FHS 2.3 are:

A) /lib : Essential shared libraries and kernel modules
Purpose: The /lib directory contains those shared library images
needed to boot the system and run the commands in the root filesystem,
ie. by binaries in /bin and /sbin.

B) /libqual : Alternate format essential shared libraries (optional)
Purpose: There may be one or more variants of the /lib directory on
systems which support more than one binary format requiring separate
libraries. [Footnote:] This is commonly used for 64-bit or 32-bit
support on systems which support multiple binary formats, but require
libraries of the same name. In this case, /lib32 and /lib64 might be
the library directories, and /lib a symlink to one of them.

C) /lib64 and /lib32 : 64/32-bit libraries (architecture dependent)
The 64-bit architectures PPC64, s390x, sparc64 and AMD64 must place
64-bit libraries in /lib64, and 32-bit (or 31-bit on s390) libraries
in /lib. The 64-bit architecture IA64 must place 64-bit libraries in
/lib.
Rationale: This is a refinement of the general rules for /libqual
and /usr/libqual. The architectures PPC64, s390x, sparc64 and
AMD64 support support [sic!] both 32-bit (for s390 more precise 31-bit)
and 64-bit programs. Using lib for 32-bit binaries allows existing
binaries from the 32-bit systems to work without any changes:
such binaries are expected to be numerous. IA-64 uses a different
scheme, reflecting the deprecation of 32-bit binaries (and hence
libraries) on that architecture.

Summarized, Debian and Gentoo comply with A) and B) but not with C)
while Redhat and Novell comply with B) and C) but not with A).

It could be argued that the special rule C) overrides the general rule A).
On the other hand, the Rationale of C) shows that C) was designed
specifically for i386/amd64 biarch distributions with a strong i386
32-bit part. But Debian amd64 is a full native 64-bit distribution.
The 32-bit part is purely optional and many people will not install
any 32-bit binaries at all on their amd64 machines.

The status quo for 64-bit and 32-bit libraries on Debian amd64
is as follows:

1) (/usr/)/lib64 is a symlink to (/usr)/lib

2) The dynamic linker name is /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (as per LSB).

3) 64-bit libraries are installed in /usr/lib and accessed via /usr/lib.

4) 32-bit libraries are installed in /emul/ia32-linux/(usr/)lib and
there are symlinks from (/usr)/lib32 to /emul/ia32-linux(/usr)/lib.

1), 2) and 3) are consistent with the FHS 2.3 as long as no 32-bit
libraries are installed on the system. Only 4) is a deviation from C)
with respect to the location of the 32-bit libraries.

The FHS 2.3 rule C) mandates that 32-bit libraries have to be stored in
(/usr)/lib on amd64. To implement this in Debian would be difficult
because almost every library package would have to be changed to install
the native library files in a separate /usr/lib64 directory instead
of the usual /usr/lib.

The other Debian ports have their native libraries installed in /usr/lib.
Many packages rely on this fact. Many things, especially during the build
process, will break if the native libraries are not in /usr/lib.

It would be a _lot_ of work to change the whole distribution to use
/usr/lib64 instead of /usr/lib as the location of the native libraries.

If it's possible to wait a bit, you can specify b.d.o, and I'll put in

happen seamlessly.

If you also give me an idea of where the index.*.db files are being

Currently they are downloaded from

I envision something like

http://bugs.debian.org/indices/index.*.db

Either way I'm fine.

Starting daemons after install not always what the user wants, but what/how to do ?

2006-09-25 Thread Mike Hommey
Some programs may be used as system daemons, but can also be used by a
user for some other purpose. For example, fetchmail can be used as a
system-wide mail fetcher, but can be used and configured by a user to
fetch his own mail, through his own setting.

Now, let's say someone creates some gnome-fetchmail program that would
take care of the configuration and the daemon starting/killing in sync
with gnome-session. This gnome-fetchmail package would indeed depend on
the fetchmail package.

IIRC, fetchmail asks the user if he wants to run fetchmail as a system
daemon when the fetchmail package is installed. Now, if the user wants
gnome-fetchmail, he will be asked that question, while actually, he
doesn't care at all. He just wants gnome-fetchmail, doesn't need
fetchmail as a system daemon, but doesn't necessarily have a clue what
he is supposed to choose for use with gnome-fetchmail.

If the fetchmail install script didn't ask the user, the maintainer
would have the choice between enabling it by default, or not enabling
it. For fetchmail the choice would probably be to not enable it, but for
some other services, probably to enable it.

And the problem is actually happening, it's not hypothetical.

There is gnome-user-share, that uses apache2 to set up a web dav share
on some random high port and make it available as a zeroconf service
through avahi. The package depends on apache2. Thus, when installing
gnome-user-share, while the user only wants to have the ability to share
his own files through a gnome interface, he also gets a full http server
running on port 80 of his computer, which he didn't really intend.

Expecting the user to disable apache by himself is not a solution.
Desktop users are not all that clueful.

I could have filed a bug to apache2, but it is more of a general issue
that needs a general solution, i think. A similar situation may already
exist with some other packages, actually.

Now, the big question is, what do you, fellow DDs, think would be a
solution for that problem of programs depending on other programs rather
than the service they provide.

One way would be to split apache2 into, say, apache2 and apache2-bin.
apache2 would contain the init script and depend on apache2-bin, which
would contain the actual apache2 daemon. Then gnome-user-share can depend
on apache2-bin.

Of course it's not quite that simple, since apache2's init script is
actually already in apache2-common, which is depended upon by the
apache2-mpm-* packages. So the same split has already happened, but the
dependencies are in the reverse order to that which you need. :)

Speaking as a user, I am annoyed at packages that choose to implement
their own custom ways of disabling their daemons, instead of letting me
make the decision in the standard/documented way.

IMO, packages where there is a need for this functionality should be
split as above. For example, fetchmail-daemon (containing the init script)
which depends on fetchmail; spamassassin-spamd depending on spamassassin;
bittorrent-tracker depending on bittorrent; and so on.

Intent to hijack the dhelp package

2006-09-25 Thread Esteban Manchado Velázquez
Hi all,

As Javier noted just after releasing Sarge [1], we need better
documentation integration tools in Debian. Yes, we have dhelp [2], but it
lacks loads of features, and it's not what I would call in shape [3]. I have
tried to fix this situation, mostly by organizing and merging bug reports, and
writing a couple of patches for them.

I have even rewritten dhelp_parse, one of the main utilities, in Ruby [4]
(mostly because it's a huge PITA finding and fixing bugs in a largely text
processing program... written in C). It maintains compatibility with the
documentation database, so it's a drop-in replacement. At least it should :-)

I have tried to talk to the maintainer several times, but, although he
replied to the first messages, he has been pretty unresponsive to the most
important ones. I understand that now is probably the _worst_ moment to make
potentially disruptive changes to any package, so what I propose is:

1) Give Stefan some time to reply.
2) Make a list of interested people, so we can start a group (a package
like dhelp should be maintained by several people IMHO), and take the old
Alioth project [5] back to life.
3) Start discussing a pending problem, related to dhelp _and_ other
packages: the official section list [6].
4) Perhaps, set up a wiki with ideas.
5) Perhaps even upload the Ruby version to experimental, so people can
start playing with it.

If Stefan doesn't reply and nothing weird happens, I plan to hijack the dhelp
package *after releasing Etch*.

Re: Compatibility between Debian amd64 and other distributions

2006-09-25 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Andreas Jochens writes:

With this change, the
/usr/lib64 symlink would become a necessary requirement for things to work
properly. Currently, the distribution works even without the /usr/lib64
symlink.

Ok, so we have to also set

udeb_slibdir = /lib
udeb_libdir = /usr/lib

No biggy.

I believe the installed Debian system conforms with A, B and C because
lib and lib64 are the same for us. Debian (and gentoo) are unique in
that. I don't think the FHS says anywhere that /lib64 must not be a
link.

B specifically allows for lib to be a link without invalidating A so
the reverse should be the same.

...

Not really. Sources are a bit more resiliant than that. For one thing
SuSe and RH have /usr/lib64 and it compiles there.

What would break is the install process because the debian/rules or
debian/*.install (the debhelper files) list /usr/lib. So

It would be a _lot_ of work to change the whole distribution to use
/usr/lib64 instead of /usr/lib as the location of the native libraries.

nobody wants that. It was always said that changing things to
(/usr)/lib64 will be difficult to transition and just wasted effort if
it gets changed to (/usr)/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu as per multiarch
proposal anyway.

Andreas Jochens

include in etch. This mail[1] from one of the pan mailing lists sums
 up the situation quite nicely.

I'm aware that it is a bit late now, but as a pan user whose pan got
upgraded under his feet: You consider the only showstopper is/was
unability to _delete_ servers? WTF? Pan 0.111 cannot _print_ articles!
I would have considered that a showstopper.

I never ever printed a news article, so I didn't notice that such functionality
was missing.

Please feel free to open a bug report in the BTS.

I am subscribed here, also sorry about the broken MFT in the
-announce mail :-/

Thank you for this very cool effort! Might we see checklib packaged for
Debian soon?

Thanks :)

Aurélien GÉRÔME started an alioth project, I'm also member there:
https://alioth.debian.org/projects/checklib/

Nothing there yet, as I wanted to get the announcement out before
starting to work on the codebase again to clean it up (which is
badly needed :-/).

The current version of the source is linked on the bottom of the
pages (updated 10 minutes ago, so please reload ;)

One thing I noticed is that there are a lot of problems (in your
terminology) caused by unneeded dependencies on libgcc1
(/lib/libgcc_s.so.1). From my quick investigation, it appears that the
C++ and Fortran compilers (g++, g77, gfortran) introduce this dependency
automatically to programs linked with them. However, if gcc is instead
used in the linking step, no such dependency is created (at least on
amd64 where I'm testing).

I'm not sure if libgcc_s.so.1 doesn't do some magic that checklib
can't detect. Maybe one of the gcc maintainers could clarify if/when
it's needed.

If it really is needed it could be ignored for the results, that
wouldn't be much of a problem.

Even though you are technically correct that libgcc1 is an unneeded
dependency, it may be hard for anyone (except maybe the gcc maintainers)
to do anything to fix this; could you have an option for libcheck to
ignore this library? I suspect if this was done, the proportion of
problems in your pie chart would shrink a fair bit.

Could be done, however if the dependency is really unneeded, it
might be interesting to fix it in gcc if possible and desirable
(i.e. not unpractical for reasons unknown to me).

One general comment: Checklib problems concern binary packages. So
if there's a problem on one package, that doesn't necessarily mean
that the corresponding source package is the correct place to fix
it.

As in this case the problem might originate in gcc, another common
reason are broken .la/.pc files in -dev packages. Checklib just
can't know where the problems come from, it can only see where they
manifest themselves.

Richard Atterer wrote:
Hmm, maybe the functionality could be included in lintian?

I'd have to talk with the lintian maintainers, but it's not easy.
Checklib needs a local Debian Mirror to work, and that sounds a bit
problematic for inclusion in lintian :)

There might be ways around this, I'll try to explore that.

Cheers,
Christian Aichinger

Christian Aichinger wrote:
As Steve Langasek detailed in his d-d-a mail[1], unnecessary

The root cause are unnecessary libraries on the linker commandline,
which get stored in the resulting binary and which dpkg-shlibdeps
happily turns into inter-package dependencies.

Thus the goal is to eliminate those unnecessary linker arguments.

As a start, I've written a script that searches for unnecessary
dependencies and reports them. Results are available here:
http://rerun.lefant.net/checklib
[snip]

Thank you for this very cool effort! Might we see checklib packaged for
Debian soon?

(I was going to ask about source code, but then I noticed the link to
here URL:http://greek0.net/div/checklib.tar.gz at the bottom of the
checklib web page. Reposting it for anyone else who might not have
noticed it.)

automatically to programs linked with them. However, if gcc is instead
used in the linking step, no such dependency is created (at least on
amd64 where I'm testing).

That is, programs compiled like this have libgcc_s.so.1 NEEDED:

g++ foo.cc
g77 foo.F
gfortran foo.F

but if they are compiled to object code and then linked with plain
vanilla gcc, like this, they don't:

g++ -c foo.cc -o foo.o gcc foo.o -lstdc++
g77 -c foo.F -o foo.o gcc foo.o -lg2c -lfrtbegin
gfortran -c foo.F -o foo.o gcc foo.o -lgfortran -lgfortranbegin

[CC'ed to debian-gcc to see if someone there can explain why this happens.]

Even though you are technically correct that libgcc1 is an unneeded
dependency, it may be hard for anyone (except maybe the gcc maintainers)

[Fwd: Bug#387557: pcre3: Please ship pcre_internal.h]

2006-09-25 Thread Mark Baker

What do people think about this?

Personally I feel that the internal in the name really should have
been a big enough clue, and I don't want to include a file that's not
meant to be used just because some idiots have written software that
needs it.

I'm not even sure it will work; what is it that emboss wants it for?

---BeginMessage---
Package: pcre3

Dear Mark,

I am building packages for EMBOSS, the European Molecular Biology
Software Suite (www.emboss.org). They ship an old version of pcre, and
build against it. As a result, the package contains files wich conflict
with Debian's pcre3.

I am trying to solve this by building EMBOSS against Debian's pcre
packages, but EMBOSS uses pcre_internal.h, which is not shipped. Do you
think that you could add them to your packages?

Ahemm... and as I am trying to finish the packaging before the freeze,
do you think that you could add the pcre_internal.h to pcre3 before the
freeze too? Do you need me to submit a patch?

Thanks a lot, and have a nice day,

Okay, waiting for the reload. Please inform me when it's done.

Looking at merkel access logs, at least in the first day around 700

16000 HTTP GETs.

Hi all,

recently, linux-image packages are compiled with smp
option and I encountered a problem on old up(non-smp)
machine with apm but not with acpi.

The power-off at shutdown didn't work even if I setted
apm=on, and/or apm=power-off etc. in grub menu.

Is there any smart way to make power-off available on
old up machine with apm?

It is a fairly tedius to build linux-image on such old

Description:
cpad-common - common files to support the Synaptics cPad driver kernel modules
cpad-kernel-dev - kernel header for the Synaptics cPad driver
cpad-kernel-source - source for the Synaptics cPad driver
Closes: 338748 339697 341823 388646
Changes:
cpad-kernel (0.10-1) unstable; urgency=low
.
 * The time has come The Walrus said ...
.
PLEASE NOTE:
My toshiba with the cPad in it seems to have been preprogrammed
to self destruct on the day its warranty expired. Fortunately
clocks run fast, and people change timezones, so for the present
they are still throwing parts at it at about the same rate the
blue smoke is leaving the last lot. We'll see what luck the next
refurb motherboard brings, when it arrives, but when this box dies
for good, my ability to maintain this package is going to be
seriously diminished.
.
If you are using it, and/or think you can help to keep it tested
and maintained, please contact me so we can figure out the best
thing to do.
.
 * Update to build with kernel 2.6.16+. If you are still
using 2.6.12 or prior, stick with the 0.9-10 packages.
It will support them better than this one.
Closes: #339697
.
 * Replace the module rebinding code with the userspace solution
employed for the wacom module. Closes: #338748
.
 * Only set KSRC to a simple default if it is not already
set. Closes: #341823
 * Rip out obsolete FLAVOUR support in line with similar
changes to kernel-package.
 * Remove unused dh_* boilerplate.
.
 * Check for the presence of debconf in postrm purge, there is nothing
that ensures it will actually be there. Closes: #388646

 * In the LONG_WORD structure, always use unsigned int since we want a 32-bit

to be unsigned long for all platforms except alpha, which broke on
platforms such as ppc64 and amd64). (Closes: #387183)

Closes: 381979 386752
Changes:
cdebconf (0.106) unstable; urgency=low
.
 [ Denis Barbier ]
 * Change select, multiselect and button colors for the newt interface
when FRONTEND_BACKGROUND=dark, to improve text readability.
.
 [ Attilio Fiandrotti ]
 * Fix buffer overflow spotted by Aike Reyer
in the GTK frontend. Closes: #386752.
 * GTK frontend: force DirectFB to reload keymap at every frontend_go() run.
This will ensure that we have the correct keymap after the user selects
one in kbd-chooser. This solution is a workaround until we can implement
a reload triggered from kbd-chooser, which would be cleaner.
Closes: #381979.
.
 [ Colin Watson ]
 * Refactor newt frontend to have a single common function to build the
progress bar form, which redraws the progress bar when the
progresscancel state changes (closes: https://launchpad.net/bugs/47733).
 * Allow Choices-C to be listed separately from Choices (etc.) in templates
files. This lets you say Choices: ${CHOICES-TRANS} and Choices-C:
${CHOICES} to substitute reliably into translated and untranslated
templates without having to ensure that ${CHOICES-TRANS} is translated
to the same thing in every language.
 * X_LOADTEMPLATEFILE now takes an optional owner argument, passed to it by
debconf-loadtemplate.
 * Add debconf_x_save and debconf_info macros to debconfclient.h.
 * debconf-loadtemplate now tells debconf to save its databases immediately
after loading templates files; this can make debugging easier under some
circumstances.
.
 [ Frans Pop ]
 * GTK frontend: don't print an extra ellipsis in the progress bar. Thanks
to Jens Seidel for spotting this.

 [ Petter Reinholdtsen ]
 * standalone task:
- Move gimp and gimp-data-extras from recommends to depends. gimp
is used by 41% of the population and should be on the CD.
- Move ktuberling from recommends to depends. It is used by 32%
of the population and should be on the CD.
- Replace gnash with 'konqueror-plugin-gnash, mozilla-plugin-gnash', to
get some free Flash plugins. Increase priority, and make it a depend.
- Reduce gnupg-doc to suggests, as it is missing from debian/unstable at
the
 moment.
 * laptop task:
- Include wlassistant as the wifi management tool of choice. Found
 in kubuntu.
 * desktop-other task:
- Reduce gnupg-doc to suggests, as it is missing from debian/unstable

Description:
debian-edu-install - Override base-config to install Debian-Edu without
questions
debian-edu-install-udeb - Execute Debian-Edu debian-installer profile (udeb)
debian-edu-profile-udeb - Choose Debian-Edu profile (udeb)
Changes:
debian-edu-install (0.655) unstable; urgency=low
.
 [ Petter Reinholdtsen ]
 * Let debian-edu-install-udeb depend on ltsp-client-builder, to build
the ltsp chroot from d-i, and get a nice progress bar while it builds.
Disable this while we wait for a better ltsp udeb.
 * Add code to report errors found during installation and from the
test suite when the machine boot for the first time. Depend on
lsb-base for the init.d script output, and libqt-perl to get the
kde debconf frontend working. Disabled until it actually pop up
over kdm.
 * Rewrite how parman recipees are selected, to reduce some
complexity in the tests.
 * Remove obsolete code and template used to allow interactive installs.
.
 [ Ronny Aasen ]
 * Fixed Error in detecting single Workstation profile.

debian-edu-config - Configuration files for Skolelinux systems
Closes: 388062
Changes:
debian-edu-config (0.406) unstable; urgency=low
.
 [ Petter Reinholdtsen ]
 * Use 'tail -n +3' instead of 'tail +3' in ntp test, to avoid warning.
 * Make dash test more robust.
 * Update test to detect missing webmin and report that.
 * Correct syslog UDP activation code to edit /etc/default/syslogd,
not /etc/default/sysklogd.
 * Fix typo in webmin test script.
 * Modify testsuite/kde to accept execute bit on /etc/kde3/kioslaverc.
No idea why the file is executable, but we only need to check if it is
readable for all.
 * Correct testsuite/webcache to not test a non-proxying connection to
squid. It does not, and should not, work.
 * Add testsuite/ltsp to detect if the LTSP chroot is installed on
the thin client server.
 * Modify ntp test to check if /etc/default/ntpdate have syntax errors.
 * Change init.d/update-hostname to use the LSB log functions and to
not print anything when VERBOSE=no. Add depends on lsb-base.
 * Removed useless chkconfig line from init.d scripts.
.
 [ Steffen Joeris ]
 * Mark update-hostname debconf question as internal and fix
typo at enable-nat question (Closes: #388062)
 * Fix typo in update-hostname debconf question to make sure lintian
is happy
 * Change hash commenting for /etc/default/ntpdate file, because
current code breaks configuration for main-server(only), because
of if-clause
 * Remove mime-types from cf.mime-support which are already merged into
the mime-support package and write bugreport against mime-support
for the rest to make sure we can remove cf.mime-support soon
.
 [ Ronny Aasen ]
 * Added cf.fstab, purpose is to add /tmp as tmpfs in fstab
 * Modify dhcp configuration to look for pxelinux.0 in the correct location
 * ldm fail if Xsession is not executable, edit cf.ltsp to make sure
/etx/X11/Xsession is +x

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Format: 1.7
Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2006 00:02:21 -0400
Source: ikiwiki
Binary: ikiwiki
Architecture: source all
Version: 1.27
Distribution: unstable
Urgency: low
Maintainer: Joey Hess
Changed-By: Joey Hess
Description:
ikiwiki- a wiki compiler
Closes: 387073 388110
Changes:
ikiwiki (1.27) unstable; urgency=low
.
 * Work on firming up the plugin interface:
- Plugins should not need to load IkiWiki::Render to get commonly
used functions, so moved some functions from there to IkiWiki.
- Picked out the set of functions and variables that most plugins
use, documented them, and made IkiWiki export them by default,
like a proper perl module should.
- Use the other functions at your own risk.
- This is not quite complete, I still have to decide whether to
 export some other things.
 * Changed all plugins included in ikiwiki to not use IkiWiki:: when
referring to stuff now exported by the IkiWiki module.
 * Add a module version number to IkiWiki, so you can use IkiWiki '1.00'
to declare which version of the interface your plugin needs.
 * Anyone with a third-party ikiwiki plugin is strongly encouraged
to make like changes to it and avoid use of non-exported symbols from
IkiWiki::.
 * Link debian/changelog and debian/news to NEWS and CHANGELOG.
 * Support hyperestradier version 1.4.2, which adds a new required phraseform
setting.
 * If an inlined page has a permalink, link the page title to that.
 * Patch from Recai to use utf8 when reading the setup file, so that
utf8 wikinames from there will be used properly.
 * Patch from Recai to kill utf-8 on the wiki name when generating the
session cookie.
 * Change ddate plugin to use the DateTime::Calendar::Discordian perl module.
 * Fix a baseurl problem in hyperestradier search results.
 * Add a stub local.css to avoid problems with 404's.
 * Patch from Recai to fix a wide character warning from the search plugin
during setup if the wikiname contains utf8.
 * Yet another fix for those poor case-insensative OS X users.
 * pagetemplate hooks are now also called when generating cgi pages.
 * Add a favicon plugin, which simply adds a link tag for an icon to each
page (and cgis).
 * Patch from James Westby to deal with the case where you're editing a
new page, hit cancel, and need to be redirected to somewhere sane.
 * Various documentation improvements by various wiki users.
 * Support Text::Markdown from CPAN, which has a different interface from
the original markdown or the one in Debian.
 * Version the libcgi-session-perl dependency, some features that need
the new version are used in some cases (sslcookie).
 * Numerous tla fixes from Clint.
 * Updated ikiwiki.svgz from Recai, includes an icon and is used to generate
a multi-resolution favicon.ico.
 * README.Debian: typo Closes: #388110
 * chomp trailing newline at the end of templates read in by the template
plugin, to allow use of the template preprocessor directive in
whitespace-sensative situations. Closes: #387073
 * Patch from James Westby to make the location of the estseek.cgi script
configurable.
 * Add typography (SmartyPants) plugin by Recai.
 * Add --render mode, which can be used to preview an edit at the command
line by test rendering a single page.
 * Add a googlecalendar plugin. A bit special-purpose, but it shows
one way to to deal with user-supplied content that could cause XSS
issues w/o the htmlscrubber, and won't survive the scrubber.

 * Disable FFI on mipsel, fixes the FTBFS.
 * Ignore the results of running the tests because the network
stack is sometimes not correct on the buildd daemons (localhost
does not resolve). We still do run the tests and we will review
the output of the buildd daemons for 'real' problems.
Fixes the FTBFS for amd64, hppa. (Closes: 388752)

.
 * Ignore source files beneath /usr/lib/
(Closes: #382582)
 * Introduce the *redirect-fasl-files-to-cache* variable.
If the value of this variable is true we redirect fasl files
to the /var/cache directory. By default we will only redirect
when compiling as the result of a clc-require call.
(Closes: #384457)

Closes: 250646 263880 300831 388938
Changes:
mueller (2002.02.27-5) unstable; urgency=low
.
 * The Unicode age release
.
 [ dict-server interaction ]
 * Bumped dictd dependency to 1.10.2. This dictd version no longer
requres --locale=ru_RU.UTF-8 configuration
 * Dropped all the debconf stuff from the package. No longer necessary
with new dictd (Closes: #388938)
.
 [ dictionary ]
 * Fixed broken 00-database-info entry (Closes: #250646)
 * Fixed 'shop' entry in dictionary. (Closes: #263880)
 * Transcription converted to IPA standard (Closes: #300831)
 * Fixed indentation in dictionary entries. To achieve this 'mova-dict'
converter has been rewritten from scratch ('python' added to
Build-Depends, 'recode', 'locales' dropped from Build-Depends)
.
 [ packaging ]
 * Boilerplate comments removed from maintainer scripts
 * '-mova' packages priority changed to 'extra' to match override file.
 * Added lintian overrides: 'mueller*-mova' packages use binaries and
icons from 'mova' package.
 * copyright file updated
