Missing some context apart the subject I guess this is about the
change which landed in jessie-updates?

tzdata (2016g-0+deb8u1) stable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version, affecting the following future time stamps:
- Europe/Istanbul switch from EET/EEST (+02/+03) to permanent +03 on
  2016-09-07. While the timezone has changed, the divergence from
  EET/EEST will happen on 2016-10-30.  Closes: #838781.
- New leap second 2016-12-31 23:59:60 UTC as per IERS Bulletin C 52.

Do you have the jessie-update/stable-updates enabled in your

Hi,

Recently glib adopted unicode 9, which modifies the definition of some chars
making them wide or zero width. This causes a number of mismatch in the
wcwidth behavior and the width claimed for glib based applications.

Please consider applying the patch submitted in
https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=20313 to update the UTF-8
charmap to the new unicode standard.

Given that upstream hasn't reacted to the original bug for the past four
months, I believe that it's important to apply the patch now and have
consistency across the distribution instead of waiting for them.

Happy hacking,

Dear Maintainer,

Although this is being reported against 2.24-5, I have only confirmed that that
version is affected by inspecting the contents of its deb file and confirming
that the problem is still present in it. I actually run Ubuntu 16.04.1, and
the version I have is 2.23-0ubuntu3. But I believe that the details on #663203
as well as the current contents of
http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/glibc/locales_2.24-5_all.deb mean
that this is a Debian bug, not an Ubuntu one. I have Cc'd the Ubuntu package
maintainer list anyway, just in case.

The fix for #663203 changes the date_fmt string for the en_AU locate from the
upstream default of:

$ locale date_fmt
%a %b %e %H:%M:%S %Z %Y
$ date
Mon Oct 24 16:32:39 AEDT 2016

to instead be:

$ locale date_fmt
%A %-e %B  %H:%M:%S %Z %Y
$ date
Monday 24 October  16:32:39 AEDT 2016

This change has introduced several problems beyond the intended fix for the
original problem:

* Full date-of-week and month names are used, rather than the abbreviations
which are more canonically used in date_fmt strings, eg. in the other major
English-speaking locales such as en_US and en_GB, as well as in the previous
(and upstream) en_AU date_fmt.

* Single digit day-of-the-month are not padded with a space, which leads to
alignment problems.

* There is an extra space between the name of the month and the hour, which
looks weird. From the look of the patch, this appears to be an accident.

The value of d_t_fmt (used by strftime %c, and unchanged by #663203's patch) is:

$ locale d_t_fmt
%a %d %b %Y %T %Z
$ date +%c
Mon 24 Oct 2016 16:32:48 AEDT

By contrast, the other main English-speaking locales put the day of the month
after the name of the month for d_t_fmt:

$ LANG=en_US.UTF8 date +%c
Mon 24 Oct 2016 04:32:48 PM AEDT
$ LANG=en_GB.UTF8 date +%c
Mon 24 Oct 2016 16:32:48 AEDT

Those locales also have date_fmt which is consistent with d_t_fmt (ie.
identical apart from the inclusion of the timezone and the use of %d instead of
%e):

$ LANG=en_US.UTF8 date
Mon Oct 24 16:32:48 AEDT 2016
$ LANG=en_GB.UTF8 date
Mon 24 Oct 16:32:48 AEDT 2016

Based on all of this, I suggest that the intention of #663203 was to make
date_fmt be more consistent with d_t_fmt, and more similar to en_GB (since
Australia and Great Britain share the DD/MM/ approach to dates), in terms
of putting the day of the month ahead of the (abbreviated) month name, ie. that
the %b and %e should simply be swapped, and that it was not about issues
related to abbreviated vs full day/month names, padding on fields, or
whitespace.

Therefore, I believe that it would be more approprate for
patches/localedata/submitted-en_AU-date_fmt.diff to have the following contents
instead:

--- a/localedata/locales/en_AU
+++ b/localedata/locales/en_AU

Hello,

glibc is failing to build on ppc64el, on sid with the following:

.../sysdeps/powerpc/powerpc64/power6/memset.S: Assembler messages:
.../sysdeps/powerpc/powerpc64/power6/memset.S:254: Error: operand out of range
(5 is not between 0 and 1)

(128 is not between 0 and 31)
.../sysdeps/powerpc/powerpc64/power6/memset.S:254: Error: missing operand

This was an attempt with sbuild with sid.
It initially built on the same version on buildd, 20 days ago or so,
but the failure was also observed on cross-compilation.

Thanks.

Package: libc0.3
Version: 2.9-27

When using a sigaltstack, under some circumstances returning from a signal
handler causes the process to block on a spinlock indefinitely. This problem
is specific to Hurd. I've attached a small demonstration program. This is
either a kernel or libc bug.

The expected output is:
terpstra@orange:~$ ./sigbug
Starting with stack bfd789c0
Alarm in 5 seconds
Waiting for signal.
Got sigint with stack b7dead24
On hurd we now enter an indefinite spin_lock (hang)
Clean exit

On hurd the output is:
terpstra@strauss:~$ ./sigbug
Starting with stack 1024ddc
Alarm in 5 seconds
Waiting for signal.
Got sigint with stack 1411efc
On hurd we now enter an indefinite spin_lock (hang)
... then it hangs consuming CPU resources:
terpstra@strauss:~$ ps -xM
  PID STAT TIME COMMAND
24645 R 0:02.62 ./sigbug
terpstra@strauss:~$ ps -xM
  PID STAT TIME COMMAND
24645 R 0:03.12 ./sigbug
