Package: khelpcenter
Version: 4:3.5.5a.d 4:3.5.5a.d
Severity: important

When I build index, the dialog box tells me its 100% done (Index creation
finished), but there are an error in the details box:

INDEXDIR: /home/totxo/.kde/share/apps/khelpcenter/index/
FINDCMD: find /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/ -name index.docbook
Creating index for 'kde_application_manuals'
htdig failed

Installing htdig paquet from aptitude fixes the problem.

Thanks for all the work you put into Debian, and I hope this bug report is
helpful.

I opened konsole and wrote with nano (and root privileges) a text file and
saved it in /home/USER/text.txt.
ls -l /home/USER/text.txt gives -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5...
Now If I login kde with USER, go to HOME by system:/ and open that file (kate
will open it) and try to modify it I discover that I can do it (and save it
automatically changing the owner to anuser)!
If I do the same simply opening konqueror from the start menu or from
/home/USER/ I can't modify that file. It seems that when I open system:/ I gain
some kind of root privilege (and I did not enter any password)

Hi!

short form: There is no bug around here.

A bit longer: when you have write access to a directory, you can always delete
files in that dir, no matter what the rights on the files.
Most editors saves a temporary file, removes the original and moves the
temporary file over to the original - and then tries to fix permissions.

so this is expected behaviour.
Closing.

kamera provides the kamera kio slave.
it can be worked around having there, but most people expects their camera to
work out of the box.

So closing as a wontfix bug.

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,

Without the smbclient adding a remote printer using the SMB protocol is
impossible
the SMB option is ghosted ...

So please make it depends on smbclient package.

Regards

Package: kdebase-data
Version: 4:3.5.7-3
Severity: minor

Upon the upgrade on the packages.debian.org server, the deb shortcut on
the konqueror url bar is now issuing this warning on p.d.o:
You reached this site over an old URL. Depending on the exact parameters your
search might work or not.

I propose changing the current deb.desktop file expression to look for
packages.debian.org/packagename. I'm preparing a patch which I'll send
after I test it.

Thanks.

kdebase-bin recommends gdb, but it is not unusual that kdebase-bin is used
without gdb. The relation should probably be downgraded to a suggestion,
although I have no idea what gdb is useful for.

The file /usr/share/apps/kcontrol/pics/energybig.png contains the
Energy Star logo. I don't think this kind of use is permitted under
EPA's trademark guidelines.

kcontrol display the logo in the Display section; I'm not sure if this
comes from the same file, or if it's directly compiled into some
binary. In the latter case, this needs to be patched as well.

When the Application Manuals box is checked, and Max. results is set
to a value other than 10, a search in khelpcenter will still return only
10 matches (instead of the value from Max. results) from the manuals
even if more matches are available. On the other hand, searching UNIX
manual pages does listen to the Max. results value. The reason is that
khelpcenter uses htdig to search the manuals, and the $maxnum variable
(i.e. what Max. results is set to) is never passed to htdig in
khc_htsearch.pl . htdig's default is to provide only 10 results. The
attached patch fixes khelpcenter on my system. (It also removes an
occasional false result from the search: [index.html]).

network traffic and cpu usage

2007-10-04 Thread Rody

I'm trying to figure out why moving large files over nfs generates so much cpu
activity every few seconds. The progress dialog reaches speeds my nic can't
possibly support (over 20 MB/s) as my nic's are 100 Mbit, then dropping back
to zero and a few seconds later climbing up to the same insane speed and back
down again...

I'd rather see my cpu usage at 10 - 20 % during the entire copy/move and the
progress dialog at 9-10 MB/s as I was used to on redhat9.

I suspect it is some sort of cache that is filled every few seconds, but I
can't find where exactly. Maybe at kernel level? KDE? Nic-configuration? I
don't know, it doesn't look like it's related to nfs-configuration like the
mount options rsize and wsize, as these settings don't seem to make a
difference.

I inadvertently cut the power to the room where my PC was running Debian 4.0.
Now when I boot I get as far as the usual screen with: the debian logo and
the date time in the bottom right corner; the Session Type and Menu
tabs at the bottom left corner and the Welcome to redcube window in the
middle with space for my user name (robin) and password. Now, however,
when I press enter after choosing a desktop (kde or gnome) from the Session
Type tab the screen goes black for a few seconds and then returns to its
previous state: i.e. kde (or gnome) won't start.

However, if I choose Console Login' from the Menu tab login, as euther
root or robin, succeeds. Use of ls -a suggests that my HD is ok. Under
either robin or root, if I don't enter any thing for several minutes line
after line of the form DROPPED IN=eth0 OUT=MAC=ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff: (A lot
more stuff follows which I haven't included) appear.

The first thing I would check is if your root filesystem is still OK.
(ls -a is not a good diagnostic for this.) For example, you can run

touch /forcefsck

as root and then simply reboot to have your filesystem checked.

If I log in as root and run startx the gnome desktop opens. But if I log in
as robin and run startx neither kde nor gnome opens but I get a message
which looks like it might be part of /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Here are some things I have tried that didn't help:
logging with TWN, Twn or Failsafe
   aptitude reinstall kdm
   dpkg -reconfigure kdm
   aptitude reinstall kdebase
aptitude remove kdebase, then aptitude install kdebase
creating a new user and attempting to start kde

 I have checked /var/log/Xorg.0.log and xsession-errors but couldn't find
 anything that looked important.

I have a similar problem. When I copy files over NFS I also get a
20-25mb/s speed at first and then it slows down. Also CPU load is
heavy. I have experienced this in both Debian Etch and in Ubuntu
Feisty. I am using rsync, so I don't think it is KDE related.
(although I am using KDE, but not using KDE for the file transfer)

Ok, judging from your experience with rsync, this means i can probably exclude
kde from my list of suspects, leaving the kernel and the nic configuration
or driver as my targets for further investigation...

Kmail and S/MIME

2007-10-04 Thread Didier Raboud
Hi,

I know that the subject has certainly been treated over and over again...
Anyway. I searched and did not find, so maybe someone on this list could
help me.

So...

I can cypher and decypher mails with GPG in Kmail with no problem, but I
can't get to know how I could make it to be able to decypher mails from
S/MIME (smime.p7s). If one could give me a piece of advice or something
similar...

Regards,

Didier

 Hi,

 Unfortunately, gpgsm is ever installed.

Then it should work.
Is the GpgME/SMIME backend checked in the kmail settings (security - crypto
modules)? Did you install gpg-agent and pinentry-qt?
