Bug#511378: bnx2 firmware not loaded

2009-01-10 Thread Daniel Pocock

Package: firmware-bnx2

Platform: Dell M600 blade
OS: lenny amd64 (freshly installed in December 2008) as a Xen dom0

Problem description:

Thursday, the blade hardware was swapped (an M600 replaced with another
M600), same disks however.

Now, the ethernet devices don't appear after booting

Manual intervention is required to unload and reload the module bnx2 and
then do ifup eth0

Things checked already:

- dmesg shows that devices are discovered during the boot phase, and an
attempt is made to get firmware

- the initrd is definitely configured in grub (see below)
- I've extracted the initrd file, the firmware is definitely in there

title Xen 3.2-1-amd64 / Debian GNU/Linux, kernel
2.6.26-1-xen-amd64

root(hd0,0)
kernel /xen-3.2-1-amd64.gz
module /vmlinuz-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64
root=/dev/mapper/vg00-th1_root ro console=tty0

module /initrd.img-2.6.26-1-xen-amd64

Workaround (not yet tested):

One workaround I am considering is to exclude the bnx2 module from the
initrd, and then load it from /etc/modules. However, it would be ideal
if such workarounds could be avoided.

dmesg output during boot phase:

After I restart my system software suspend all USB devices stopped to
work. They are not even powered any more. What helps is to plug in some
device, the whole USB system recovers.

Bug#501383: This bug is not there with hypervisor/dom0 from lenny

2009-01-10 Thread Nikita V. Youshchenko
Hello.

At last we upgraded hypervisor and dom0 of our servers to lenny/amd64.

Now our 32bit domUs correctly see more than 4G of memory. So this bug may
be closed.

Bug#511412: clocksource/0: Time went backwards

2009-01-10 Thread Nikita V. Youshchenko
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-686
Version: 2.6.26-12
Severity: normal

After upgrading a domU from etch to lenny kernel, I've faced a hard domU
lockup that very looks like
http://bugzilla.xensource.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1098
after severak hours f running.

I've applied the workaround descried there at comment 13, and since
then domU worked several days under high load without issues.

Maybe make debian kernels not to use xen clocksource until the issue is
fixed?

Package: linux-image-2.6.18-4-486
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-1

Hi,
i am using the cyclades multiserial driver. There seems to be a bug in
the error path on loading the driver. The cyclades Hardware consists of
the PCI card and an external serial box. If the serial box is not
connected the driver recognizes this and bails out. Unloading
and reloading the module fails in this case with the below error
message:

Cyclades driver 2.3.2.20 2004/02/25 18:14:16

The first time the module loaded it looked like this:

I have a DPT 2044W SCSI adaptor in this machine. Module eata does not
get loaded automatically, and when I try to load it manually with
modprobe I get a
kernel stack trace then lock-up.

The ALPS touchpad of Dell Latitude E6500 (and possibly others) is not
detected properly, due to the device id missing in
drivers/input/mouse/alps.c. A patch[1] adding the device ID was posted
in LKML and works properly.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6197. Sound was working okay under Linux
2.6.24.

Since 2.6.25, it plays fine through the speakers, but if I plug the headphones
in then the speakers become silent but nothing is audible through the
headphones. I've tried turning up various volumes in alsamixer and tried
passing various model= parameters to the kernel (toshiba, laptop-micsense,
etc.). FWIW I tell the kernel mousedev.tap_time=0 notsc SELINUX_INIT=NO

Hi,

Further inverstigation on bug #507280 revealed, that the UVC driver
included in kernel 2.6.26 is buggy when switching from YUV to MJPEG.

So please cherry pick kernel commit d63beb9ef004ff9587b3c466361276254d57d7a7
so that UVC webcam users get a working webcam with Lenny.

Thanks,
Gregor

nor ipv4 multicast works.

Fixed in 7ee0fddfe0.

Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-powerpc64
Version: 2.6.26-11

On PS3, the SPE penguin logos are corrupted.

This happens because in the .config all of the following conditions are met:
  1. CONFIG_FB_LOGO_EXTRA=y
  2. CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_CLUT224 is not set
  3. CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_MONO=y and/or CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_VGA16=y

Apparently the code to draw the (224-color) extra logos uses properties from
the main logo, even if the number of color differs.

We have recently found out that Debian installation UI looks much
better on various SunBlade systems if the framebuffer drivers for
XVR-500 and XVR-2500 cards (CONFIG_FB_XVR500, CONFIG_FB_XVR2500) are
enabled [0,1]. If there is going to be another kernel rebuild before
lenny, it would be great to enable these drivers. As cards are
sparc-specific, it is sufficient to enable them for sparc. Also, it
would be nice to apply the attached simple patch, which adds the PCI
ID of a card I have in my SunBlade 1000 [1], it appears that it's the
same chip (same device ID), but manufactured by a different company.
I've sent the patch to David Miller to be included upstream, however
haven't heard back yet [2].

looking to do a linux-2.6 upload to sid tomorrow. As discussed on the

introduce a new build for inclusion in RC2.

Changes pending for this update include:
   - a few local DoS security issues
   - the hppa kernel fix that was causing crashes during ruby
builds (doesn't fix the FTBFS - that may be a userspace issue)
   - reintroduces a driver for the ia64 rtc (regression)

Bug#507994: Please include version 1.6 of hso.c

2009-01-10 Thread Olivier Berger
On Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 02:22:10PM +0100, Torsten Jerzembeck wrote:
 - The 1.2 driver included with the current kernel sources is next to
useless. Really poor reception, and very frequent lock-ups of the
system. It seems that this version doesn't handle handovers and
network outages gracefully at all and has severe problems when
   disconnecting the USB modem.

 - The 1.6 driver from the Pharscape forum that aba is talking about
gives _much_ better reception and is _much_ more stable than the 1.2.
However, even this causes system lockups. I've managed to nail down
the cause, it seems that the code has problems with rapid changes
between no reception and GPRS/UMTS when under network load.

 - I tried to backport the hso.c module from linux-next (kindly provided
by Florian Weimer; my version is attached to this mail). It uses an
additional element in the tty_struct that is not present in earlier
versions of the kernel. After changing the code not to use
tty_kref_put and tty_kref_get, it compiles and can be inserted, but
the system freezes on the first access of the hardware. I suppose
there is some kind of locking missing, but I'm not fluent enough in C
   to debug this.

My next step will be using a vanilla 2.6.27.9 kernel with the 1.6 hso.c
from the Pharscape forum, as this is reported to be stable and cause no
 freezes.

FYI, there's an ITP filed about this driver : #501760

Hope this helps,

Bug#511417: Raid1 resync does not run in the background

2009-01-10 Thread Joachim Zobel
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-12
Severity: medium

I have a desktop with 1Tb raid1 disk. After a crash it took about 2
hours to boot, since the raid1 resync slowed the box down.

Setting in /etc/sysctl.conf

dev.raid.speed_limit_max = 3

helped in my case. I do however think that a raid1 resync should behave
reasonably out of the box.

Sincerely,
Joachim

Bug#511419: [linux-image-2.6.26-1-686] Please apply upstream patch for unbreaking /proc/pid/pagemap on 32bit systems

2009-01-10 Thread Oliver Gerlich
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26-11
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

There is a patch in upstream kernel 2.6.28 which fixes an oversight bug
in the code for /proc/pid/pagemap file; you can find the commit at
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=49c50342c728344b79c8f9e8293637fe80ef5ad5

Without this bugfix, the pagemap file is missing the Present/Swapped
bits for every page on 32 bit systems, because they are encoded in bits
62 and 63, while the bug truncates the values to 32 bits.

The patch itself is attached as well. Would it be possible to apply it
to the kernel for Lenny? Or will it appear there anyway with a future
update?

Thanks,
Oliver

Bug#511449: linux-image-2.6.26-1-vserver-686: Problem with Vserver CPU scheduler, vserver never hold (hold-ticks always 0)

2009-01-10 Thread Mario Abajo Duran
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-1-vserver-686
Version: 2.6.26-12
Severity: normal

Hi, i was trying out the token bucket directly with lenny but seems that no
configuration
makes the guest vserver get hold.
The status and the configuration of the scheduler can be shown here:
  beta:/etc/vservers/amule# cat /proc/virtual/40001/sched
  FillRate: 1,1
  Interval: 1,8
  TokensMin: 750
  TokensMax: 2988
  PrioBias: 0
  cpu 0: 2 7 0 0 0 RI 1 750 2988 1/1 1/8 0 0
  cpu 1: 62829 22 0 0 0 RI 1 750 2988 1/1 1/8 0 0

The guest was running the burnMMX application for some time consumming 100%
of one of
the two cpu's.

The flags of the vserver are as follows:
  beta:/etc/vservers/amule# cat flags
  sched_hard
  virt_mem
  virt_uptime
  virt_cpu
  virt_load
  virt_time

  beta:/etc/vservers/amule# cat /proc/virtual/40001/status
  UseCnt: 5
  Tasks: 2
  Flags: 0016021f0110
  BCaps: 04ff
  CCaps: 0101
  Spaces: 1c020200

I hope it wont be a configuration problem, after reading quite a few
documentation from
linux-vserver.org and googling for examples, configurations and similar cases
like this
i reached the conclusion that maybe a bug.
Thanks in advance :)
