Bug#171623: openoffice.org: OO crashes upon startu
Hi Jack, On Thu, Dec 05, 2002 at 10:32:13PM -0500, Jack Howarth wrote: I haven't seen any of these relocation error crashes on my debian ppc sid box using 1.0.1-6 of openoffice.org. This bugreport of -6 seems to be very rare - almost everyone has no problems with the current -6. The problems are with new builds - we are getting crashes all the time. If you have access to an i386 sid machine, you can try reproducing it from the tarball I uploaded here: http://people.debian.org/~halls/openoffice/643/openoffice643C.tar.bz2 Running './install --single' is enough to set up a local directory to test from - you don't need to do a network install. The only issues I have seen are occasional quits on startup in openoffice from the absence of __libc_waitpic in glibc 2.3.1 or glibc cvs. My workaround on that was to delete the .openoffice directory in my account, move /usr/lib/j2se aside under a bogus name and rerun openoffice. This seems to cause openoffice not to find the jdk support and disable it for that account. I can move /usr/lib/j2se back and openoffice no longer randomly quits on startup (which is what Kevin expects from this bug). Yes, I've seen reports about this one too. I guess that is a glibc problem? Chris

Hi, I've seen reports of this problem if there are no locales configured. I see that you have LANG=C defined. Please try two things: 1. Run /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice Does that work? 2. If not, please try selecting an additional locale using 'dpkg-reconfigure locales', such as en_US, and then try rerunning OOo. Thanks, Chris

I wasn't attempting to load or save an HTML file. I had just upgraded openoffice.org-1.0.1_5 to opeoffice.org-1.0.1_6 and was navigating the Options menu attempting to look at the HTML Compatibility options. This is when the unrecoverable error occurred. Sorry, reading too fast. I tried this and I cannot see any problems here? I played a bit with the options, saving, starting OOo and change the settings, others than html as well .. all works fine for me. So you can mail me strace/gdb output? Ah, in that case our wrapper has a problem as I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation - somehow this is very difficult to reproduce. This wasn't a problem under openoffice.org-1.0.1-5 so something must have changed :-). Yes, the wrapper did :) Just need to see if Perl is happy with my locale choice now. I think you'll find you can switch back again now... at least, I couldn't reproduce it any more once I'd generated locales on the machine where it was happening. [To people wondering what is going on: I think the wrapper's fallback to LANG=en-US is probably causing it. It needs more testing before we close this report] Chris
