Entiendo que quieres un host con Linux y las máquinas clientes con 
Windows pero mejor que nos digas qué necesitas exactamente y por qué.

Si no te quieres complicar, VirtualBox para proyectos caseros está muy 
bien. Más en la línea de Xen tienes KVM.

En el manual de instalación y administración de la aplicación tendrás los

andaría con florituras y particionaba al mínimo, es decir, /swap y 
/ (y una para /boot si te gusta este tipo de esquema).

 Espero que sea cuestion de tiempo de que hotmail autorice el acceso de
 los emails enviados de mi servidor a la bandeja de entrada de los
 usuarios.

Dialogar con los servidores de correo de Hotmail es un suplicio, ya te lo 
hemos dicho. Ahora bien, si el correo que mandas termina en la bandeja de 
spam de los usuarios de Hotmail poco podrás hacer para controlarlo ;-(

Como primero, no uses QEMU (no tiene buena perfornace), podes usar
Xen, kvm o VirtualBox, cualquiera va bien para lo que queres
Te recomiendo que empieces con VirtualBox, porque es mas fácil y tiene
un modo fluido donde podes tener abierto  una aplicación de windows
y otra de Linux en el mismo escritorio (no te das cuenta que esta
virtualizado).

Luego con respecto a la interacción que pedis, la virtualización no
funciona de esa forma.  No es que corran los dos S.O en paralelo he
independientes, Si virtualizas un windows dentro de linux, el windows
corre como si fuese un proceso mas (es una generalización muy burda)
de linux., no es que puedas cambiar de S.O con un alt+tab

Para lo que queres, podes abrir dos Xwindow (F7,F8) y en la del F8
abris una sesión de linux, y dentro de esta una coneccion rdp al
windows.

Esa es mas o menos la idea, como hacerlo??

arranque de linux??


o sea, veo que tienes la idea de lo que necesito, no me interesa que sea 
un proceso mas, solo que pueda aplicar esa idea que tengo, que al dar 
crtl+alt+f7 tenga el xwindows de KDE4, y si doy crtl+alt+f8 tenga el rdp 
del windows virtualizado, sin dar otra accion en el boot de la maquina.

la línea de comandos.

Entiendo que quieres un host con Linux y las máquinas clientes con
Windows pero mejor que nos digas qué necesitas exactamente y por qué.
La idea inicial es usar esa maquina como si fuese un servidor de 
aplicaciones, de hecho, lo será, estoy planteandome la idea de montar un 
servidor de apache, mysqld, postgresql, proftpd, svn, tomcat, DNS, 
acceso RAS(mgetty), en fin, un gran sin fin de aplicaciones, no se si 
dará ese hardware.


ademas, necesito levantar un escritorio windows, para mientras yo 
trabajo via red en las funciones del servidor de aplicaciones, mi papa, 
mi mujer o quien necesite windows, pueda simplemente entrar por el 
escritorio de windows y usar sus aplicaciones.


De hecho, mi papá se dedica a hacer musica a partir de ficheros MID, 
tiene un cantante adentro, le gusta participar en karaokes y fiestas 
cantando, y el hace esos trabajos con FruityLoops, Finale, etc.


a el le a INTERESADO la idea de trabajar con linux, de hecho, le he 
influenciado mucho, pero a la hora de el poder editar sus canciones, no 
ha podido, no he logrado hechar andar el RoseGarden, el tema del JACKd, 
ya que no dispongo de ningun dispositivo MIDI.

Por lo visto no está recibiendo bounces de Hotmail, solo envía y los
mails llegan a spam, lo cual es muy difícil de controlar porque
dependerá de los oscuros y enrevesados filtros de Hotmail. Hotmail
suele dar errores permanentes cuando bloquean una ip por supuestos
envíos masivos de spam y eso se puede ver en la página de
postmaster.live.com.

Claro, los emails que envio llegan perfectamente a hotmail, el
problema reside en entran en la carpeta de correo no deseado,
configure todos los parametros de mi servidor para que los filtros de
spam no lo detecten como tal, y al parecer pasa todos los controles,
pero sigue entrando como spam. Es ese el problema en cuestion que
intento solucionar.

En el mensaje anterior que envie a la lista, publique la comprobacion
que me envio hotmail al mandar un mail a la direccion de check-port-25
de hotmail

Te recomiendo que instales VBox y le metas un windows dentro, así
entendes como funciona (vas a comprender como funciona esto de
virtualizar)
Si quieres implementar eso de F8+F7, VBox no lo hace
automáticamente, vos vas a tener que configurar a mano para que sea
trasparente al usuario.
seria algo asi:
1- iniciar el VM windows al inicio de linux
2- hacer un autologin de usuario win12 en F8 (win12 user linux)
3- Al iniciar automáticamente cliente de rdp (de forma
maximizada) desde el usuario win12
4. Cuando presionas alt+F8, aparece login de windows (porque
el cliente rdp esta maximizado)

A todo esto le tenes que sumar el control de que siempre este
online la VM de windows (se puede caeer, los windows se caen) y el
control que siempre este levantado y maximizado el cliente de rdp.
Si todo esta idea se sirve.. esta lindo para implementar, es una
buena forma de ahorrate los reinicios del dualboot y que la familia no
moleste!!!.

Contanos cuando lo implementes.

No necesitas ningún dispositivo Midi para usar Jackd, aunque una
tarjeta de sonido externa es recomendable por el tema de la latencia.

Por otro lado, tienes alternativas a Rosegarden (por si no te gusta)
como Denemo o Musescore.

A veces no hace falta dar tantas vueltas para encontrar una solución
simple ;-)

existe algun metodo para hacer virtualizacion directa y como hacerlo.

Por ejemplo, necesito levantar al mismo tiempo un so linux y windows.

A ver si me explico.

Puedo tener desde la Ctrl+F1...F6 las tty, en la F7 el grafico de Linux,
y
en la F8 el escritorio de Windows?

XEN, QEMU, cual es el recomendable y como??



Como primero, no uses QEMU (no tiene buena perfornace), podes usar
Xen, kvm o VirtualBox, cualquiera va bien para lo que queres
Te recomiendo que empieces con VirtualBox, porque es mas fácil y tiene
un modo fluido donde podes tener abierto  una aplicación de windows
y otra de Linux en el mismo escritorio (no te das cuenta que esta
virtualizado).

Luego con respecto a la interacción que pedis, la virtualización no
funciona de esa forma.  No es que corran los dos S.O en paralelo he
independientes, Si virtualizas un windows dentro de linux, el windows
corre como si fuese un proceso mas (es una generalización muy burda)
de linux., no es que puedas cambiar de S.O con un alt+tab

Para lo que queres, podes abrir dos Xwindow (F7,F8) y en la del F8
abris una sesión de linux, y dentro de esta una coneccion rdp al
windows.


Esa es mas o menos la idea, como hacerlo??

VirtualBox puede configurarse para que el arranque junto al mismo arranque
de linux??

o sea, veo que tienes la idea de lo que necesito, no me interesa que sea un
proceso mas, solo que pueda aplicar esa idea que tengo, que al dar
crtl+alt+f7 tenga el xwindows de KDE4, y si doy crtl+alt+f8 tenga el rdp del
windows virtualizado, sin dar otra accion en el boot de la maquina.






   Te recomiendo que instales VBox y le metas un windows dentro, así
entendes como funciona (vas a comprender como funciona esto de
virtualizar)
   Si quieres implementar eso de F8+F7, VBox no lo hace
automáticamente, vos vas a tener que configurar a mano para que sea
trasparente al usuario.
   seria algo asi:
  1- iniciar el VM windows al inicio de linux
  2- hacer un autologin de usuario win12 en F8  (win12 user linux)
  3- Al iniciar automáticamente cliente de rdp (de forma
maximizada) desde el usuario win12
  4. Cuando  presionas alt+F8, aparece login de windows (porque
el cliente rdp esta maximizado)


me intersa esa idea, basicamente es lo que necesito.


A todo esto le tenes que sumar el control de que siempre este
online la VM de windows (se puede caeer, los windows se caen)  y el
control que siempre este levantado y maximizado el cliente de rdp.
Si todo esta idea se sirve.. esta lindo para implementar, es una
buena forma de ahorrate los reinicios del dualboot y que la familia no
moleste!!!.


esa es inicialmente la idea.jajajaja. que cuando tengan que usar el 
windows no tenga yo que dejar de trabajar.

menos brindarle la posibilidad de trabajar en mi casa, pero que esto no 
afecte mi trabajo en la pc, ademas, en ocaciones necesito tener a mano 
el windows.


Creo que disponer de 1 nucleo y 1 gb de ram no afectara mucho a el resto 
de los 3 nucleos y 7 Gb para lo que necesito el linux.

Aparte de ser un off-topic totalmente, y como tal deberías etiquetar,
según [0] el tráfico va por el puerto 443, aunque sin cifrar.

problemas con las iptables

Hola lista,

Tengo un cron para levantar las iptables pero no me las levanta al 
iniciar el sistema, el cron es asi


@reboot root /home/crones/firewall


el fichero firewall tiene las instrucciones para levantar las iptables, 
cuando lo ejecuto me las levanta pero mediante el cron no.


Que pudiera estar pasando?

Deberias darnos mas datos. que te dice el cronlog, una muestra del script, etc
En la mayoria de los casos en la que un script a mano funciona y en
cron no funciona el problema esta en el PATH ya que no es el mismo
para un cronjob o para un usuario.

Asi a ciegas si ver tu script lo que haria seria poner el path
absoluto a todos tus comandos. Ejemplo:

En lugar de:

iptables -A ..

Pon

/sbin/iptables -A

De todas formas creo que hay una manera mas elegante de levantar el
iptables en el arranque. Yo llevo usando el metodo que explican en el
wiki de Debian [1]  y estoy muy contento.

 De hecho, mi papá se dedica a hacer musica a partir de ficheros MID,
 tiene un cantante adentro, le gusta participar en karaokes y fiestas
 cantando, y el hace esos trabajos con FruityLoops, Finale, etc.

Hum... no sé cómo andará el tema de la virtualización de ese tipo de 
hardware, quizá tenga problemas para que le reconozca esos dispositivos, 
aunque si trabaja directamente con archivos midi es otra historia.

Pues lo tienes complicado, es decir, los usuarios de Hotmail no tienen el

lo sumo, podrán añadir una lista blanca de remitentes pero poco más. 

Lo que te interesa realmente es entender por qué el filtro antispam de 
Hotmail considera tus mensajes como no deseados y esto tiene más que ver 
con el contenido que con otro cosa -tecnicismos como el sender id, dkim o 
spf no te eximen de que un cliente catalogue tu correo como spam por su 
contenido y el filtro bayeasiano de Hotmail aprenda que ese tipo de 
mensajes el usuarios los considera como spam. 

Habitualmente, el resultado de la verificación del sender id, spf o dkim 
se utiliza para puntuar a la baja en caso positivo o al alza en caso 
negativo un correo pero no es el único dato o factor que se tiene en 
cuenta para catalogar un correo como spam.

 En el mensaje anterior que envie a la lista, publique la comprobacion
 que me envio hotmail al mandar un mail a la direccion de check-port-25
 de hotmail

No sé cuál sería el objetivo de esa prueba ya que Hotmail utiliza 
SmartScreen :-?

Fork kde 3.5

hola, el asunto es el siguiente, tengo Debian testing, y le instalé un
fork de kde 3.5 llamado trinity, todo funciona bién, al parecer no
tiene problemas de dependencias ni nada, todo ok durante la
instalación. pero al momento de apagar la maquina se keda pegada al
final de terminar todos los procesos, también tengo instalado gnome
shell, y al apagarlo desde allí, se apaga normal. me gustaría saber si
alguien mas a usado este fork, y si tiene este problema.

Samir, se resolver instalar o 32bits (eu instalei e funciona bem, sem

I join in the chorus of people who have trouble with the things,
especially now that my sight is getting worse.

From the other end, as a user, I've also run into a problem. My blog
runs on serendipity, which has a spam plugin that uses captchas. I had
this turned on but a reader who often posts replies said he couldn't get
through it. So I tried myself and the same thing happened: I got through
once in about a dozen tries. So I've turned it off, so far without
causing a flood of spam.

On the other hand, when it was turned on I was still getting literally
hundreds of spam piostings, so I don't know how useful the things are
anyway.

That may be your guess, but it is wrong.  Squeeze itself does not have 
numbers.  Debian has numbers, and Squeeze is the code name for Debian 6.  As 
I said, we are now up to at least Debian 6.0.6, but  it is still Debian 6.x.x 
and the code name is still Squeeze.  The next version of Debian, with a code 
name of Wheezy, will be Debian 7 when it is released.

Ok, so I updated the kernel to 3.6.
I then tried to install the wl driver i.e.

I checked what ubuntu is using and it appears they use the module  
brcmsmac

Now it seems I am getting very similar battery life estimates from  
powertop of around 13 hours. Which is what I got with ubuntu.


So it seems the kernel update helped a bit.

Is it possible that the brcmsmac driver is much better with battery  
life? Perhaps the wl driver does not allow me to turn off the wifi,  
with rfkill (can't remember).


What are the differences between brcmsmac and wl? Is wl an open  
source alternative to something that requires close source firmware?

If so is it likely that wl is still inferia to brcmsmac?


wl is Broadcom's own closed-source driver. If you can make your  
wireless card work with the free bc43/brcmsmac driver, I would  
definitely go with it, as it won't taint your kernel. Generally  
speaking, free drivers integrate better with your hardware (improving  
stability), but usually aren't as optimized as proprietary drivers are  
-- and vice versa.




Anyway, I've solved my problem it seems, just interesting to know how  
I got to this solution. :)

I wasn't aware about this. However, I'm naive, I believe that the Linux
downloads are secure and I indeed use MD5 just to check integrity. Since
I'm a K3b users, the MD45 sum is very handy. I don't know if it's
possible to make K3b use something else but MD5 automagically.

I'm a dyslexic, simplified it's a perceptual disorder regarding to signs

captchas, when nobody is able to decrypt them.

Driver ARK3116 don't create /dev/ttyUSB

Hello,

I am trying to use a USB-to-IrDA converter by ARKMICRO (with Debian 5.0
Lenny) 

i searched on internet and the appropriate driver should be ark3116 but
the interface isn't recognized and no device /dev/ttyUSB is created.

How can I make this driver recognize this interface to create the device
(/dev/ttyUSB)

After plug the converter the output of dmesg:

Yes, a blind penpal some minutes ago did inform me about that, he also
has written that Dyndns does help by telephone. Audio captchas should
cause issues too, perhaps I'll listen to some later.

Captchas seem to be based on the wrong assumption that humans can  
recognize shapes whereas automata supposedly can't. Judging from the  
reactions on this list, I should perhaps apply for a patent for  
*purposely* indeciphrable captchas? I'd just have to invent a companion  
method for detecting unmistakably human behavior when confronted with  
such unsolvable captchas, such as: mad stare, hair pulling, keyboard  
smashing, cursing, kicking the computer, spitting, yelling and the like.


I'd like to see robots emulate *that*!

restructuring the hard drive

Hey guys,

I'm using Debian Testing, and my laptop is set up with a dual-boot
system using WinXP and Debian. The hard drive is divided almost
half-and-half, but since I no longer use Windows (it has been weeks
since I booted into it) I'd like to delete it and utilise the whole hdd
for Debian. However, it's on an encrypted LVM - is it possible to just
boot into a gparted rescue cd, delete the partition... and then what?

That's the most funniest reply in a long time :D, but your patent might
have some security gaps, since e.g. spitting could be emulated

To get rid of the Windows partition there should be no issues with
deleting, but assumed Debian does use LVM, than you can't use gparted to
add free space to the existing LVM. To do that you need some commands,
but the drawback would be, that your Debian and data is spread in an
unclear style all over your drive, if you add a foo (have forgotten the
term of the LVM thingy ;).

IIUC the Windows does use LVM, however, if you add free space to the
beginning of an existing normal partition for Debian, with /boot on
it, you might not be able to boot Debian any more, resp. you have to fix
it, or you simply use the free space to add a new partition and mount
it.

However, do captchas require java? I don't have java enabled on
iceweasel (only skypebuttons.so and libflashplayer.so). But by the
same token, I don't have it installed on midori either, that I can
tell. about:plugins is blank, and preferences - extensions doesn't
list java anywhere.

That said, if it is needed, what plugin would I need for something
like this? If java, I'd really rather not trust my system to Oracle's

Bah!

Yes, you can boot off of a live distro and do what you want.  Delete the win 
partition, create a new partition and add it to the LVM Volume group, grow the 
volume group into it.  You might just create a new logical volume and move 
'/home/yourusername' to it. Google is chock full of instructions on how to 
proceed.   Even 'man lvm' will get you pretty far.

All you should need to do in preparation is back up your whole machine before 
you start.  I mean it!  This means you.  You have been warned.  Data loss is 
easy to come by.  Back up your data.

Oops, I meant JavaScript, not Java. JavaScript for Firefox can be
enabled by
Edit  Preferences  Tab: Content  [x] Enable JavaScript

Don't worry too much about it. Unless you have a trust path (usually via 
some Debian Developer and the Debian keyring) to the key used to sign

No idea, stopped using K3b a while ago. I usually try to stick with GTK

Unfortunately a good Linux audio coder does use Qt.

I have javascript enabled. In fact, I have noscript enabled, and have
everything allowed or temporarily allowed (in this case, jcpenney.com,
coremetrics.com, google and google analytics). Still no soup on
iceweasel.

I also ran into this problem recently on badgerandblade.com, and had
to register using midori, because iceweasel would not display the
captcha.
