E.g. behind a *very* restrictive firewall or a very slow ISP connection. I know that jigdo templates are provided for BD images that will do the job, but only for AMD64, not for PowerPC, hence the need to roll my own. And besides, I think it might be fun to learn more about the process. Maybe my google foo is at a low ebb today: I did my duty as a question-asker -- searching the web for answers before I ask the list -- but came up dry. On Jul 5, 2013, at 1:25 PM, Brian wrote: Well wouldn't documentation for Jigdo template be in Jigdo package? The jigdo template is a lot lower level than I was hoping for. It's kinda like the object code, where I'm looking for the high-level language source code and a compiler to produce the object code from it. It's theoretically possible to edit the jigdo template, and all the binary parts it contains, just as it's theoretically possible to edit the java byte-code for a subroutine that almost does what you want -- but it's much more convenient (and comprehensible) to edit the java source code. What I'm hoping for is that there's something like a compiler that takes a human understandable specification, in the form of list of packages and other configurable components of an installer CD/DVD/BD/etc, and outputs a jigdo template (or such) that implements that specification. I'm hoping that's exactly what simple-cdd is. Enjoy! Rick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Porn or other G-rated platforms comparable to YouTube tend not to work, e.g. regarding to commercials. AFAIK Google Chrom can play videos, that Firefox can't play and it's also possible to download flash videos and to watch them using a media player, e.g. search for Firefox plugins. I tested all kinds of videos with Firefox, sure, I can't watch porn videos and even not every YouTube video, but I'm not missing it, as many Linux users I chose Linux, because it's not my interest to make my computer a machine to play proprietary consumer crap. When I first installed Debian a year ago I have some problems ([1]),but them was solved using a ~/.asoundrc configuration file. I was happy with my computer, but a few days ago I realized that my Debian Sid become a little outdated, when I try to install the experimental version of XBMC. Before upgrading XBMC I decided to upgrade the whole system (around 300 packages, only upgrade, not dist-upgrade). The upgrade process was fine and I rebooted the computer. The surprise comes when I try to use my XBMC installation and the sound is not working at all. No errors are shown, the configuration file is in its place. I checked the mute checkboxes on my alsaconfig, and all appears to be ok. I don't know where to start to look for a solution. Anybody knows what can be wrong? Anybody had a similar problem? Thanks in advance [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2012/05/msg00056.html Some (maybe) helpful outputs: $ lspci | grep -i -e audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) 02:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1) $ aplay -l List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 8: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 9: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 I just went through something similar when changing the video card on my MythTV machine. I used aplay -l to get my list of devices. MythTV has a sound setting, and I also configured /etc/asound.conf so that mplayer and rhythmbox would output sound through HDMI. Well maybe if you are lucky the package will allow you to edit an existing template. It should! E.g. behind a *very* restrictive firewall or a very slow ISP connection. Enjoy! Rick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-powerpc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? For example to test my HDMI connection to my monitor with built in speakers I run: $ speaker-test -Dplug:hdmi -c 2 In your case try (replace -c 2 with -c 6 in case you have 5.1 surround) $ speaker-test -Dhw:1,7 -c 2 and $ speaker-test -Dplughw:1,7 -c 2 or $ speaker-test -Dhdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=3 -c 2 and so on until you find the device that works for you. Another possibility is that during the upgrade your default audio system switched to pulse audio (very possible looking at your aplay output). In that case you need to install pavucontrol, the control tool for pulse audio, and set your sound through that.
