[wheezy]Comment garder OpenVz

2013-07-06 Thread Grégory Bulot
Bonjour,

Merci

# prime the stack with a positive return value if there isn't one already;
# this avoids us returning an error just because nothing sets a success code
# since the modules above will each just jump around
auth---required-pam_permit.so
# and here are more per-package modules (the Additional block)
# end of pam-auth-update config

/etc/pam.d/common-account
snip
# here are the per-package modules (the Primary block)
account[success=3 new_authtok_reqd=done default=ignore]---pam_unix.so-
account[success=2 new_authtok_reqd=done

# this avoids us returning an error just because nothing sets a success code

accountrequired-pam_permit.so

Can somebody point me at some docs or packages I could use to
create a customized CD/DVD/BD image for installing Debian PowerPC?

I'd like to create a 32GB (or larger?) USB memory stick that can
be used to do a complete installation of PowerPC Debian (Wheezy
right now, but into the future... who knows?) without access to
the Internet at install time. E.g. behind a *very* restrictive
firewall or a very slow ISP connection.

I know that jigdo templates are provided for BD images that will
do the job, but only for AMD64, not for PowerPC, hence the need
to roll my own.

And besides, I think it might be fun to learn more about the
process.

Maybe my google foo is at a low ebb today: I did my duty as a
question-asker -- searching the web for answers before I ask the
list -- but came up dry. In any case, a pointer in the right
direction would be much appreciated!

On Jul 4, 2013, at 1:39 PM, Brian wrote:

How about editing the amd64 template?

That might work if I knew where the template was, and how to use it.

I've installed simple-cdd and started to read the documentation.
Is the configuration file mentioned there the same as the template
you are talking about?

Or is there a different package that I should be looking at...

On Jul 5, 2013, at 1:25 PM, Brian wrote:

Well wouldn't documentation for Jigdo template be in Jigdo package?

The jigdo template is a lot lower level than I was hoping for. It's
kinda like the object code, where I'm looking for the high-level
language source code and a compiler to produce the object code from it.

It's theoretically possible to edit the jigdo template, and all the
binary parts it contains, just as it's theoretically possible to edit
the java byte-code for a subroutine that almost does what you want --
but it's much more convenient (and comprehensible) to edit the java
source code. What I'm hoping for is that there's something like a
compiler that takes a human understandable specification, in the form
of list of packages and other configurable components of an installer
CD/DVD/BD/etc, and outputs a jigdo template (or such) that implements
that specification.

I'm hoping that's exactly what simple-cdd is.

Enjoy!

Rick

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

That's why I stopped using flash player a long time ago and I watch
flash videos with Firefox. I tested all kinds of videos with Firefox,
sure, I can't watch porn videos and even not every YouTube video, but
I'm not missing it, as many Linux users I chose Linux, because it's not
my interest to make my computer a machine to play proprietary consumer
crap. I e.g. don't want to skip commercials, I completely don't want
that a video does start with a commercial.

However, AFAIK the current version of Flash still does work and usually
is easy to install.

Ralf

Epson Perfection V330

2013-07-06 Thread Anthony Campbell
I had my Epson Perfection V330 working well on Debian Sid but I had to
reinstall the system. I now have Squeeze running.

I downloaded drivers from the Epson site:

iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl3_i386.deb
iscan_2.29.1-5~usb0.1.ltdl7_i386.deb
 iscan-data_1.23.0-1_all.deb

I have tried both of these iscan packages but although they seem to
install OK the scanner is not recognised.

Has anyone got this working?

I'd be willing to uprade to Sid if necessary but I'm not sure that would
be the answer.

I just went through something similar when changing the video card on my
MythTV machine. I used aplay -l to get my list of devices. MythTV has
a sound setting, and I also configured /etc/asound.conf so that mplayer
and rhythmbox would output sound through HDMI.

Here is my /etc/asound.conf:

pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}

pcm.!default {
type hw
card 1
device 7
}
ctl.!default {
type hw

You should probably check to see if XBMC has its own sound settings that
need to be tweaked in addition to asound.conf. Also keep in mind that
there may be a per-user setting in $HOME/.asoundrc

 I know that jigdo templates are provided for BD images that will do the

 code and a compiler to produce the object code from it.

 It's theoretically possible to edit the jigdo template, and all the binary
 parts it contains, just as it's theoretically possible to edit the java
 byte-code for a subroutine that almost does what you want -- but it's much
 more convenient (and comprehensible) to edit the java source code. What I'm
 hoping for is that there's something like a compiler that takes a human
 understandable specification, in the form of list of packages and other
 configurable components of an installer CD/DVD/BD/etc, and outputs a jigdo
 template (or such) that implements that specification.

 I'm hoping that's exactly what simple-cdd is.

 Enjoy!

I think it must Lisi, because someone posted about a problem with Chrome
and the discussion was taken from that to Chromium not being nearly
the same and then about things not working in Chromium or Chrome and so
it continued.

So I imagine it does matter.

It's good to know something works for someone, even though someone else
writes that it doesn't. Obviously not everyone can tweak software as
well as some.

It also matters that, were I having the same problem with not getting
something to work with FOSS that I could ask that person how they got
it working.

[disclaimer]
I am a Chromium user and everything works just as it should. Did
nothing special to it.
[end disclaimer]

Not having used Chrome, can't compare the two.

Be well,

  Just try finding the correct device using speaker-test application. For
example to test my HDMI connection to my monitor with built in speakers I
run:

$ speaker-test -Dplug:hdmi -c 2

In your case try (replace -c 2 with -c 6 in case you have 5.1 surround)

$ speaker-test -Dhw:1,7 -c 2

and

$ speaker-test -Dplughw:1,7 -c 2

or

$ speaker-test -Dhdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=3 -c 2

and so on until you find the device that works for you. Another possibility
is that during the upgrade your default audio system switched to pulse
audio (very possible looking at your aplay output). In that case you need
to install pavucontrol, the control tool for pulse audio, and set your
sound through that.

 I think it must Lisi, because someone posted about a problem with Chrome
 and the discussion was taken from that to Chromium not being nearly
 the same and then about things not working in Chromium or Chrome and so
 it continued.

 So I imagine it does matter.

Yes, Charlie. I agree. I had been involved in the discussion and agree that
that discussion matters. And most people were saying that they found
flash-plugin-nonfree adequate, with which I did not disagree. It was not
adequate for me, it was for them. Worth establishing. And it may well have
been my fault that I did not find it satisfactory.

Quote from Stephen
What do you mean exactly? It just does, if you have it installed. You
must go to Adobe's website and install it first of course.

I have it working here fine on Debian's Chromium.
/quote

But Stephen appeared to me to want confrontation for confrontation's sake, and
it was that with which I was disagreeing. Of course I know about having to
get it and install it before it would work! It appeared to me as if he was
being deliberately insulting. So I repeat: Does it matter that Stephen,
clever Stephen, has it working to his satisfaction, so assumes that I am too
thick to know that something is not going to work unless I first download and
install it? I still say not!

Are you changing into the directory where you have placed the .deb
before typing the command? Otherwise you need to give the whole path to
the .deb, so that dpkg will know where to find the file.

Sorry if I am teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but I am rather
guessing in the dark here!

Dear List -

These are the errors I get on the dpkg install.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Depends: libgconf-2-4 (= 2.31.1) but it is
not installable
Depends: libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (= 2.22.0) but it
is not installable
Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (= 2.24.0) but 2.20.1-2
is to be installed
Depends: libnspr4 (= 1.8.0.10) but it is not
installable
Depends: libnss3 (= 3.12.6) but it is not
installable

Depends: libstdc++6 (= 4.6) but 4.4.5-8 is to
be installed
Depends: libx11-6 (= 2:1.4.99.1) but

If I run apt-get install -f, it removes Google chrome.

I hope this helps.

2013-07-06 Thread Ethan Rosenberg, PhD

Dear List -

This is what I tried next

1. Open a terminal window.

2. Type in the following commands then hit Enter after each.

For 32-bit systems:

wget -c
https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_i386.deb

dpkg -i google-chrome-*.deb

apt-get install -f

These are the errors I get on the dpkg install.
