C'est mieux, même si les débits annoncés ne sont pas atteints.

On voit que pour l'écriture, même si on est loin de la limite de l'USB
2.0, le passage en USB 3 a augmenté le débit de 50%.

Pas mal, je ne me rappelle pas avoir jamais obtenu un tel débit

Ça dépend du débit que tu veux obtenir.

En tout cas l'interface ne fait pas tout. Ça me rappelle mon premier
disque UDMA/66, dont le débit séquentiel ne dépassait pas 15 Mo/s.

I'm typing this on a Thinpad T520, which I have had as my work machine 
since the middle of 2012. It has spent almost its entire life on the 
ship I serve on, and is still working perfectly. Dual-boots between Win7 
and Linux Mint (currently 17.2). It is a pleasure to type on, and there 
are only two things I would change:


1) the addition of USB3

2) addition of an NVidia graphics chipset

It has recently been upgraded with the addition of an MSATA module which 
has just made it even better. If you see one of these, I would recommend it.

J'ai un petit cubieboard sur lequel tourne une Debian Jessie.

J'ai récemment souscrit à un abo VPN pour, notamment, avoir une IP fixe.

Mais avant de me brancher sur le net pour de vrai, je pense que la mise en 
place d'un pare-feu pourrait s'avérer utile.

Je me suis donc lancer dans la lecture de quelques articles donc un chapitre du 
bouquin «Le cahier de l'administrateur Debian» traitant du sujet et dans lequel 
les auteurs conseillent fwbuilder 
(https://packages.debian.org/jessie/fwbuilder).

J'ai donc installer fwbuilder et, de prime abord, il a l'air simple à utiliser, 
propose des config' sur base de templates, ...

Mais lorsque j'ai jeté un œil sur le script généré, j'ai eu quelques surprises 
(pas de prise en compte de l'IPv6 alors que la définition de mes interfaces 
comportait aussi de l'IPv6, pas de règles de prise en charge d'une interface 
rajoutée après la config' de départ, ...).

Bref, comme je n'ai pas trop de temps à passer pour maîtriser fwbuilder, je 
pense me rabattre sur un set de règles simple comme décrit sur le wiki Debian 
ici : https://wiki.debian.org/iptables

Ma config' l'est aussi : une interface eth0 connectée sur mon réseau local et 
sur le switch de mon FAI et une interface tun0 créée via openvpn et connectée 
au net avec IP fixe pour laquelle je veux filtrer le trafic.

Ma question : pensez-vous que les règles de l'article du wiki suffisent ?

Je pense simplement y ajouter la règle suivante pour autoriser le trafic de mon 
réseau local :

-A INPUT -i eth0 -d 192.168.1.0/24 -j ACCEPT

Si la machine ne fait tourner *AUCUN* service un firewall n'est pas 
nécessaire. Et si l'ensemble du trafic passe par le VPN, une règle qui 
rejette tout le trafic vers l'IP publique _SAUF_ pour le port du VPN est 
suffisante.

La referencia que mandé [1]  es de 2005 y era ya una frase muy conocida...

to Don Armstrong. The indication is that CUPS was interacting with the 
avahi daemon both directly and indirectly (via systemd configuration). 
Especially if the problem is caused by the direct interaction, there's 
not much of anything that an end user could do to fix the problem -- 
except report it. And that would require a lot of work to figure out 
what really is the culprit. That's something that's well beyond my skill 
level, but Michael Biebl had been pursuing the matter offline by 
providing the monkey (me) with step-by-step instructions to help him 
suss out the issues.


Unfortunately, I have discovered a separate interfering issue on my 
systems which may have muddied the waters. I'm not sure whether or not 
Michael will be continuing to work on my particular problem since 
eliminating the interfering issue has essentially fixed both the CUPS 
and NTP problems for me.

Not at all. I appreciate your interest, and I would certainly not ignore 
you. I intend to report back with the findings in my particular case 
when I know a little more.


In the meantime, we should remember that others have reported the same 
issue with CUPS and NTP. I suspect that those others are unlikely (IMO) 
to be running systems with the same configuration as mine. So the 
problem with CUPS and NTP vs. systemd is probably real -- even if it 
might only be a corner case.

AP support for wl driver

How could I request the developers to add support for the driver to allow
AP mode on my Broadcom wireless hardware (Dell 1704 card, precisely).
The device does support AP mode, tested on Windows 10.

no mouse cursor unless manual X config 'Option "HWCursor" "off"' in Jessie

Fresh Jessie installation about a week ago, TDE added last night. Normally
using startx rather than any DM, but DM when used, has no pointer either..
Mouse could be used to select and click, but no way to tell where pointer was
until it hovered something that changes on hover. Same problem in IceWM. I
have other machines that use this same Intel 945G/ICH7 chipset, so it's hard
to imagine why this is needed here but not elsewhere, nor in openSUSE
13.1/KDE4 nor openSUSE Leap/IceWM nor Mageia 5/KDE4 on same machine. I've
never before on any post-XFree86 installation needed to turn off HWCursor.
Naturally as the problem is same in IceWM, this must be a Jessie problem, not
a TDE or hardware problem. Any ideas on how to eliminate need for disabling
HWCursor?

Pas forcément nécessaire. Faut voir quel IPv6. Si c'est juste du link
local (fe80::/10), pas besoin.

Pas d'accord : deux interfaces différenciées, c'est déjà compliqué.

Suffisent pour quoi faire ?
Elles autorisent des connexions entrantes sur des ports. Est-ce utile ?
Au passage, il ne s'occupe pas plus de l'IPv6 que fwbuilder.
Note : le commentaire concernant les types ICMP est stupide : les
paquets ICMP qu'il vaut mieux ne pas bloquer ont déjà été acceptés grâce
à leur état RELATED.

Pourquoi s'embêter à filtrer sur la plage d'adresses ? L'interface
suffit. Si un pirate arrive à s'introduire sur ton réseau local, nul
doute qu'il prendra une adresse  qui va bien dans la plage.

Le bidule doit-il faire office de routeur entre le LAN et le VPN ?

Ça ne dépasse pas les limites de ce qui est possible en USB 2.

Cependant, sauf erreur je ne vois aucun test de lecture ni écriture
directe sur la clé (/dev/sdX) mais seulement des tests en écriture
passant par le système de fichiers. Or l'écriture sur une clé USB flash
est notoirement plus lente que la lecture, et le passage par le système
de fichiers (allocation des blocs, mise à jour des méta-données)
n'arrange pas les choses.

If only ssh is the problem, make sure the PAM configuration for ssh
includes the pam_systemd module.  Usually /etc/pam.d/sshd should just
include "common-session" which should have pam_systemd.  Also make sure
PAM is not disabled in sshd_config (I think this also disables starting
PAM sessions).

Pourquoi une carte USB a-t-elle besoin d'une alimentation SATA ?
Le bus PCIe ne fournit pas assez ?

J'ai suivi bêtement la doc de la carte

fichier source /dev/zero : USB3 de la carte : 11,8 MB/s en
USB2 de la carte mére : 11,6 MB/s
fichier source en tmpfs : USB3 de la carte : 24.9 MB/s en USB2
de la carte mére : 18.3 MB/s

Est-ce que ça vous semble correct? Ou j'ai un problème ?

Ça ne dépasse pas les limites de ce qui est possible en USB 2.

Cependant, sauf erreur je ne vois aucun test de lecture ni écriture
directe sur la clé (/dev/sdX) mais seulement des tests en écriture
passant par le système de fichiers. Or l'écriture sur une clé USB flash
est notoirement plus lente que la lecture, et le passage par le système
de fichiers (allocation des blocs, mise à jour des méta-données)
n'arrange pas les choses.

J'ai fait ca comme test :

   Est-ce que ta clef est vraiment USB 3 ?  (Connecteur
différent, et forcément bleu.)

Apparemment oui, puisqu'elle est détectée en SuperSpeed avec xhci.

remotely via SSH.
In other distributions this is taken care of by default, I'm not sure how 
to enable systemd user mode on Debian. Please help.

Bof. Mais c'est peut-être juste la clé qui ne peut pas écrire plus vite.
Ça a beau être de la mémoire flash, ce n'est pas forcément très rapide.

Là, ça dépasse nettement les capacités de l'USB 2 (high speed). On
pourrait en douter a priori, la vitesse de signalisation de l'USB high
speed étant de 480 Mbit/s, ce qu'on pourrait convertir hâtivement en 60
Mo/s. Mais la surcharge protocolaire de l'USB est telle que le débit
utile atteignable est largement en deça.

Voilà, c'est à peu près le débit utile maximum que j'ai toujours
constaté en USB 2.

Il y a des chances que les limites mesurées soient celles de la clé. Il
faudrait tester avec un périphérique plus rapide, idéalement un SSD récent.

Pour filtrer le trafic entrant sur tun0. En gros, tout bloquer sauf les deux ou 
trois services que je veux pouvoir accéder depuis le net.

new world of web hosting.  Looking at debian-hosting's web site, I'm totally
lost as to how I would mangage my account.  What I'm looking for is something
similar to what I had before.  Is there anything like that out there?  Or can
I manage a debian-hosting account that way?

Wow used to offer free web hosting to subscribers to their cable modem
internet service.  They decided to withdraw that service, so I'm
looking for a new web-hosting service for my web site.  If I can get it

Looks like these people insist that you use a "control panel".  I have
my Web sites with Gandi  using their
"Simple Hosting" plan and I manage them with sftp just as you did with
yours.  They use Debian.  I'm quite happy with their service.

Muchas gracias a todos por sus respuestas y aclaraciones. Respecto al
comentario de Camaleón, yo había visto esa frase el año pasado que me
suscribí a la lista (en julio si no mal recuerdo), revisé muchos, casi
todos los mensajes que desde entonces he almacenado en mi disco duro y
no di con ella. No es precisamente una falla de mi cerebro biológico,
más bien no pensé en revisar el archivo de la lista antes de
preguntar.

J'ai acheté récemment une carte USB3.0 (PEXUSB3S2EI). Je l'ai connecté à 
un bus pci express 2.0 x1 + alimentation SATA


Sur le site constructeur (

on peut lire : Linux 3.5


Mes différents test avec un même clé USB3 me donne les débits suivants :

fichier source /dev/zero : USB3 de la carte : 11,8 MB/s en USB2 de la 
carte mére : 11,6 MB/s
fichier source en tmpfs : USB3 de la carte : 24.9 MB/s en USB2 de la 
carte mére : 18.3 MB/s


Est-ce que ça vous semble correct? Ou j'ai un problème ?

  Ça dépend.
  Est-ce que ta clef est vraiment USB 3 ?  (Connecteur 
différent, et forcément bleu.)

  Avec des disques SATA dans un boîtier en USB 3, j’atteins les 
limites des disques (100 à 150 Mo/s suivant le disque).
  Je n’ai pas eu l’occasion d’essayer avec un SSD mais on 
devrait aussi atteindre les performances du support : env. 
500 Mo/s (le débit USB 3 est de 625 Mo/s, mais avec un codage de 
8 bits sur 10, le 3.1 double ça mais je ne sais pas où ça en est 
côté matériel).

  Donc si ta clef est vraiment USB 3 et qu’elle est de bonne 
qualité, tu devrais avoir de meilleurs débits.

  Essaie avec d’autres périphériques avant de jeter la carte.

Did the pointer work before you added TDE (whatever that is)?

Il est parfois possible, dans la configuration du service, de spécifier
une interface ou adresse sur laquelle le service écoute. Ce qui permet
la visibilité en local, mais pas ailleurs, sans la nécessité d'une règle
de pare-feu donc (sauf si on veut filtrer en local).

Il y a eu un fil de discussion là-dessus sur cette même liste il y a
quelques mois.

I don't remember whether I tried IceWM before installing TDE. I rarely use
anything other than [K,T]DE except to determine whether a problem belongs to
Xorg or [K,T]DE.

Malheureusement c'est quasiment toujours l'adresse, et pas l'interface.
Même quand on spécifie une interface dans la configuration, en pratique
cela revient à spécifier "l'adresse de cette interface". Or le modèle
d'hôte "faible" (weak host model) appliqué par Linux permet d'utiliser
l'adresse d'une interface sur n'importe quelle autre interface. On peut
compter sur des effets de bords pour assurer la restriction (par exemple
l'adresse n'est pas censée être routable depuis l'extérieur), mais cela
revient à compter sur quelqu'un d'autre pour assurer sa sécurité.
Certains services permettent aussi de spécifier les adresses sources
autorisées, directement ou via le wrapper tcpd et /etc/host.allow|deny.

Au final, gérer globalement les autorisations via iptables est
généralement plus radical (vraie gestion par interface réseau) et plus
simple (toutes les autorisations d'accès centralisées au même endroit et
gérées de la même façon).

Donc si certains services écoutent en IPv6, le filtrage IPv6 est
souhaitable, et pas seulement sur l'interface tun. A vérifier avec
netstat. Autre possibilité que je me dois de mentionner à contrecoeur :
si le bidule n'a pas besoin d'IPv6, le désactiver.

Après réflexion, je me dois de revenir sur ce point de ma réponse
précédente. Il est légitime de se prémunir contre des connexions qui
pourraient provenir de l'extérieur et relayées par la box internet sur
le LAN, à la faveur d'une erreur de configuration par exemple.

Avec le pinning tu peux détailler comme tu veux les versions de paquets,
l'autre c'est plutôt pour préciser la version installée il me semble.
Il faut voir aussi si ce que tu veux installer n'est pas dans les
backports.

Doesn't do me much good unless you want to hand carry one over here. Of

hplip and scanning not working on Jessie

I apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to get all the 
info that I have available up front.


I recently upgraded to Jessie, using sysvint-core as my init and am 
having some printer problems.


I got the printer working.  CUPS was apparently uninstalled during the 
upgrade.  I had noticed that some CUPS files were being removed, but it 
looked like replacements for them were being installed. Anyway, I 
installed CUPS, found what driver it wanted (printer-driver-hpcups) and 
installed it, set the desktop to access the printer locally, and enabled 
remote printing.  I can now print from the desktop and my wife can print 
from her laptop.  Hooray!


Then I tried scanning.  Libre Office, which under Wheezy allowed me to 
import a file from the scanner, no longer lists any devices when I try 
to do so.  I noticed that libsane was installed, but sane was not.  I 
installed sane.  No difference.


I also noticed that the HP Device Manger no longer seems to work.  I 
tried running it from the command line so that I could see the errors 
produced.


No matter which tool I tried to run, with the exception of hp-check, I 
get the following error:

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/, so what next.  I ran hp-check and it 
listed a number of unmet dependencies.  I installed the required packages.


I still can't run any of the hp tools.
