faxing using linux?
I am new to linux and learning a lot very fast. I am doing good learning on my own and reading many linux and unix books. But , my wife needs to fax something and I don't have any clue on how to go about it. I think I am supposed to use mgetty but I don't understand it. I read the man pages and it said something about mgetty.info, but I couldn't find that file. Could someone step me through it and please keep in mind I am new. It is very easy to talk over my head. thanks _ DO YOU YAHOO!? 'make config'
I am having problems trying to run make config for one probably simple reason. But since I don't know a whole lot yet, I am stumped. I looked for /usr/src/linux, and there is no such directory. Where is my kernal? I even installed one from dselect and went back and checked and it still was not there. ??? Sincerely confused _ DO YOU YAHOO!? I read the how to's on how to install my sound card but when I type make config it is giving me a msg that says something about missing target, I can't remember exactly what it said. What am I doing wrong if any thing. Is there a different procedure for debian, and if so where can it be found. _ DO YOU YAHOO!? xfree86.config probles
While running dselect and installing x, it asks me if I want to create a config file and I say yes. Then it shoots me into a graphics mode which takes a long time to load and then when loaded the config screens seem real sluggish and my computer sounds like its going to have a hernia. Is my computer not powerful enuff for x or am I doing something wrong. I have a 486 w/ 4M of ram but I have created 32M of swap space on my hard drive. Is this bad? I think it could also maybe be because I have my cd rom drive on the same controller as my hard drive. Please help. _ DO YOU YAHOO!?
