ncftp-3.0beta12

1998-06-07 Thread Corey Miller
I haven't been able to get a reply out of the author of ncftp
about this, so I figured I'd try the helpful people on this
list. My question is this. Is there any way in ncftp-3.0beta12 to set
the time it sleeps between redials? The default seems to alternate
within the 18-20 range. Thanks for your help,

non-removable file

1998-05-30 Thread Corey Miller
I had my computer lose power, and when I rebooted it fsck reported
that I needed to run it manually. I did so, and it seemed to fix the
problem. However, today I noticed a change in one of my files in my home
directory. It looked like this:

c--xr---wx   1 130918308  35,  32 Sep  8  1996 README

I cant seem to find any way to remove it, even as root. I tried
everything that I could think of, and it wouldn't even let me change the
permissions on it. Any ideas on how I can deal with this? Thanks for your
help,

JDK 1.1.5 and Java ICQ

1998-05-27 Thread Corey Miller
I've been trying to run the Java version of ICQ on my hamm system.
I get the following error when ICQ tries to display information in text
boxes:

Warning:

This happens for all characters and numbers it tries to show. I
have tried reinstalling the jdk packages and the X11 font packages (using
dselect) with no change in the problem. Can anyone offer any insight into
my situation? Thanks,

compiling joystick.o

1998-04-30 Thread Corey Miller
I'm trying to compile the module for joystick support, but when I
make joystick.o and try to load it with insmod I get this error:

mstie# insmod joystick.o

joystick.o was compiled for kernel version 2.0.32
while this kernel is version 2.0.33.

I am running 2.0.33, and have 2.0.33 in /usr/src/linux. If anyone
could point out my mistake, I would really appreciate it.

visudo

1998-04-09 Thread Corey Miller
While I was editing my /etc/sudoers file using the visudo command,
my computer lost power. When I was able to restore power, everything
seemed to be functioning alright. Except, I tried to run the visudo
command, and got the following error:

visudo: sudoers file busy, try again later.

I tried removing the file, then renaming a backup copy to
/etc/sudoers, and it still gave the same error. Then I tried removing and
reinstalling the package, only to get the same error. If it makes a diff,
I'm running hamm. Thanks for any help you can provide,

I don't completely understand your problem, but I do believe that I
have at least a partial solution for you. Lynx can be used to download
files. All you have to do is specify the -dump flag, and it will dump
whatever you load to stdout. For instance, you could do something like
this: lynx -dump http://web.cps.msu.edu/~mille542/index.html  index.html.

Hope this helps,

NCR53c406a problems

1998-02-23 Thread Corey Miller
Hello, I own the Acculogic ISApport 10/P SCSI card, which is built
around the NCR53c406a chipset. I am running kernel 2.0.33 with SCSI
support, as well as the NCR53c406a driver, built in to the kernel. In my
lilo.conf file, I have tried all of the following:

append=ncr53c406a=0x140,10,1
append=ncr53c406a=0x140,10,0
append=ncr53c406a=0x140,10
append=ncr53c406a=0x140

And all of them produced the same error messages:

NCR53c406a: no available ports found
scsi : 0 hosts.
scsi : detected total.

The only device I have connected to the card is my IOMEGA JAZ
drive. If you can offer me any help whatsoever, I would very much
appreciate it. Thank you for you time,

 There is no us locale. EN_us is the closest. One of your startup

 IIRC StarOffice does this. Look though /etc/profile, ~/.bash_profile
 and ~/.bashrc, and any scripts that they call.

I use the tcsh shell, and couldn't find any scripts that could
possibly be setting LANG to us. Just to be sure, I manually did 'setenv

C locales and 'history'

1998-02-19 Thread Corey Miller
I just did a fresh install of Debian 1.3.1, and have run across a
few problems.

First, I get the following two warnings (that appear to be
related). This one comes up when I try to install some new packages
(assumably the ones whose install programs use perl scripts).

perl: warning: Setting locale failed for the categories:
LC_CTYPE LC_COLLATE
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LC_ALL = (unset),
LC_CTYPE = (unset),
LC_COLLATE = (unset),
LANG = us
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the C locale.

This second warning shows up whenever I start emacs.

Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged

My other problem is with the 'history' command. For some reason,
it will only scroll up to the last command issued. And, when i type in
'history', it doesn't display anything. Incidentally, my prompt shows the
number of the current command in the history list, and it does
get incremented.

MS IntelliPoint

I'm sorry if this thread has come up before (which I'm sure it
has), but I can't seem to find debian-relevent help anywhere. I have an MS

a third button, hopefully even use it to scroll.

So far the only things that I could find were patches to the
source of X Windows servers and gpm. If this is the only way to do it,
could I get any instruction on how to go about patching and compiling th
source for there programs? Or, is there an easier way to do it under
debian? Thanks for your help,
