Possible package breakage?

1999-05-08 Thread James E. Starr
Hi,

Looking in the potato packages file, I noticed that bsdmainutils
depends on bsdutils(=3.0-0). The version of bsdutils, in potato,
is 2.9i-1 and recommends bsdmainutils. Per the packages file,
bsdmainutils replaces bsdutils(3.0-0). Is this going to break
anything?

Thanks,

Jim

newbie needs clarification

1999-02-28 Thread James E. Starr
Hi

I want to use ttfonts in Netscape. I've been reading the back posts on
this nad need some
clarification. One post said to put fontpath Unix/:7101 in the
xf86config file. Another said
not to do this, put it in .xinitrc. Which is correct?

TIA

J. Starr

p.s. I've looked everywhere I can think of on my system and am unable
to find a file named
.xinitrc. Where would it be hiding?

More xfstt help needed.

1999-02-28 Thread James E. Starr
Hi

Thanks for all the help given so far, however, after following all
advise and puting FontPath unix/:7101 as the last line in my
XF86Config file, I tried to run the test, as per the FAQ.gz.
I got as far as xfstt but I received the error msg cannot open
TCPIP port 7101, better try
another port. Isn't 7101 the port X runs on? If so, why wou't it
open? Do I need to configure something i've missed?

TIA

OPL3SAx sound card

1999-01-26 Thread James E. Starr
Hi

Has anyone been able to get this card to work? I've tried every
combination in the kernel and the best I've gotten is a series of
four tones, each at a higher frequency than the last. If someone
could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

TIA
  Jim Starr

p.s. I've read every howto and manual I could find.
