what can possibly be going wrong here? and why is the password nakedly
displayed like that in the log?

I found (after several phone calls) that turning off the debug option
in /etc/ppp/peers/provider , I think) stopped the password being
displayed in the log. All I get now are the remote messages such a s the
IP address.

I think hat you want to do is edit our XF86Config File (find it in
/etc/X11). You need to find the 'screen' section. In this section there
is a subsection for each colour depth (eg, 8, 15 and 16 bpp etc.). For
each of the colour depths thee will be a line that says 'virtual 1024
768'. The numbers may be different in your case, but they are what you
want to change. Set the Virtual size to the largest size listed on the
Modes line and that should give you what you want. You can also change
modes by pressing 'Ctrl Alt +or-' , but use the + and - keys on the
number pad.
Hope this helps.

I was wondering if anyone could help me resolve a printing prblem
 I have got?

I have an HP LaserJet 4L. If I do
 lpr textfile.txt
then it works fine. However, printing in lyx appears to work fine,
 but nothing is printed :-(

Are you using the 'lpr' package or the 'lprng' package?
I had the same problem when using the 'lprng' package. I switched back
to the regular 'lpr' and the problem was solved. Its kind of a lame way
to fix it but it works.
If you need to keep 'lprng' then there is another package for HP
printers called 'cti-ifhp' (I think) that might help.

and tried again, still no window-manager. I looked in my
window-managers file and all of them are listed, how come it doesn't
start any?? Thanks for your help..

  hmmm wmaker is your default?
  try commenting out wmaker.
  If that works...try this:
move the GNUstep directory in your home drive to a new name.
then try...wmaker will recreate its standard GNUstep dir...
I found that I many times set somethin in wmaker and next thing I knew
  wmaker wouldn't run anymore...in fact...all I got
was twm (which afaik isn't even listed in my window-managers file...
  I hate twm)
maybe this will fix it? give it a try
course...I went back to fvwm2 last nnight...I find I prefer
  fvwm2 with tkdesk to wmaker

Sorry that didn't work. It would be really nice to have X start a
window manager for me again. I've also had problems trying to get out
of X (because the WM didn't 'hook' into it correctly. When I use the
really quit command in FVWM2 I just loose the window manager X doesn't
shut-down!) I also didn't know if you noticed that I have NO window
 manager when I start-up X.

Do you have a file /etc/X11/Xsession?
it should say that if all else fails then use twm. Its sounds like this
worked before. Also, what is in your ~/.xinitrc and/or ~/.xsession
files? (if you have them). If you want FVWM2 then try putting exec
/usr/X11R6/bin/fvwm2 in one of these files (I think they need to be
shell scripts, so put #!/bin/sh at the start). Don't use an , that
way when you quit fvwm2, X will also quit. But if you have the fvwm2
package installed then /etc/X11/Xsession should find it in the
window-managers file.
I just had the same trouble with afterstep not using the window-managers
file and resorted to using the ~/.xsession file method.
Mark.

If you use the menus then try the tkdesk menu and the toggle appbar
 command.

There is a debian policy. I cant remeber the details but it says
something like if you advertise then you agree to pay $1999 per
advertismentand if you contact us we might discount this rate for
relavent advertising. So, should someone send them the bill?

Hi,
I've been looking at the companies that are shipping debian 2.0 CD's but
cannot find any in Australia. Does anyone know where I might be able to
get the CD's (binary only is fine)?
Thanks,
Mark.
