Maybe there´s a web browser that has this functionality already built

Re: Thunderbird/icedove behaviour on message delete

2012-01-22 Thread godo

Thats the way I would normally do it, and the way I do it on Claws mail which I
use.
BUT when setting up the mail filters I stumbled across a menu that allowed
either delete or hide as the options with age.
The problem is I can't find it to alter the age at which to hide again.
Maybe a hidden function, no pun intended.

I know for 'strike when deleted' and delete attachment after # days'
from Horde
(http://www.horde.org/images/screenshots/webmail/imp_1_1.png), if you
have horde maybe you can mix somehow with your client or use only Horde.

I can't recall this options in Tbird but maybe they are dip hidden in
some previous versions. Now I have 3.1.1 and cant find it anywhere.

you can make sub directory old mails and make filter Age in days is

are other problems, too.
1) The XFCE menubar misbehaves, for instance, the panel applet

2) When starting an terminal window (menu /Accessories/Terminal), the

I found that package pacemaker-mgmt-client is only in Sid and filelis

Hi,
I'm not expert at all, but from my experience with WordPress most of the
people will try to spam you.

Robots will look for phpbb (or something specific) in links, internal
links for pictures, .js, .css, meta tags, directory's etc. and when find
which forum you use they will try to spam or crack you.

I don't think there is permanently solution except rewrite all scripts.
Maybe there is some plugin for rewrite URL's and meta tags.

Maybe you can lock forum for reading (except members) and in that way
harden robot's to detect your forum.

Re: Mp3 Encoding (and Virtual Machine Software for Wheezy?)

2011-05-19 Thread godo

Hi,

VirtualBox on Wheezy has been a really, really ugly experience. Here's a
quick recap -

1. Follow the directions to add the Squeeze version from virtualbox.org
(contrib, VirtualBox 4).

2. Attempt to install Guest Additions, synaptic says it has to
uninstall VirtualBox (huh?)

Guest Additions are for guest OS, you don't have to install them in host OS.
Inside guest OS mount fake CD/iso copy-paste .sh, .exe...to home
directory and install.

- I was installing the Guest Additions 4 from the VirtualBox source.

3. Uninstalled VirtualBox 4 from the contrib source, moved on to the
non-free version (source is still virtualbox.org), which is actually
VirtualBox 3.

4. Attempt to install the Guest Additions, and again, Synaptic says it
has to uninstall VirtualBox (Huh?!)

5. Virtual machines now won't start (issues with dkms).

I have dkms and VirtualBox on Squeeze and Wheezy hosts and they work.
Maybe some wrong steps?

What a trip.

1. On host install VirtualBox and dkms
2. In VirtualBox install guest OS
3. Mount Guest Additions CD in guest OS
4. Copy to home dir. Guest Additions app (don't remember exactly name)
from mounted CD

5. Install it.

If in any period you get message need kernel header or something like
that install kernel header for your kernel.

When you download any .iso first check md5sum to see is it downloaded

Re: Finding Library Dependencies - MxEasy Security Camera Software

2011-05-09 Thread godo

And the kicker is that libsdl1.2debian (no -all) which I have
installed, has these exact files with these exact names as well. So
I think the software is looking for the package name with -all, and
when it doesn't find it it fails. I overrode dependencies and
installed it anyway, but inexplicably it does everything but show
video.

There is a way to determine what libraries are required by an
executable, but I don't remember what it is.

If you run executable through shell I think it show you where is the
problem.
So if app name is 'mxeasy':
$ /usr/bin/mxeasy
and it should be wright every step.

Does MxEasy maybe need any extra video codec?

OK, I see I haven't explained myself properly :D

I know the feature you talk about. But I'm talking about (random)
single clicks being considered by the system as (undesidered) double
clicks (random because it doesn't happen all the time). By the way,
I forgot to mention that it happens with both left and right buttons.

In fact, it's a bug quite annoying:

Thanks anyway for your replies.

Cheers.

Oh, sorry for misunderstanding.

I'm not expert at all, but I will first check which directory is to large.
For example var can be to large because old logs or because something

Check tmp directory (system and user's); clean all garbage.

Great! So how then can I stop dhcp from randomly assigning a new IP

Hi,

This is how it looks in my router:

I have 3 Siemens and with them it is possible to choose static or

Re: Finding Library Dependencies - MxEasy Security Camera Software

I looked for libsdl1.2debian-all in Debian's packages and found it in
Squeeze and Sid, but not Testing. Technically this MxEasy package is
for Ubuntu, but I've never had a problem like this before.

I know there is a way to check an app to find out what libs it's
calling for, but I can't remember how.

Can anyone advise?

Hi,
it's happened sometimes that some package missing in testing or sid but
from my experience it will come in few days or week.

If you are in hurry try with sid version and if there is not to much
dependencies I think it wont be a problem.

.mozilla directory is for some Iceweasel/Firefox, IceApe/SeaMonkey and I

you to select a specific app to open the file with.

In Squeeze, a RMB click when you're *inside* Ark seemingly does nothing, all
you can do is to preview a file in the Ark internal viewer, you can't open it
with an application of your choice.

So, it appears that in Squeeze one would have to *explicitly* extract the file
first in order to open it with a specific app instead of the internal viewer.
One extra step as compared to Lenny, one extra step I'd like to avoid.

Sadly thats true. With 'xarchiver' you can inside archive select file
and choose your own app for opening file.
And one more dumb thing is if you open .pdf inside ark you can't copy
text, enlarge text etc.

Hi,
maybe is something wrong because on my Squeeze you can do it with right
mouse-open with-ark or just right mouse and extract.

Tray with right mouse on rar/zip archive-propertis-general tab (edit
file type) and add ark.

If you just left click on .zip does ark open it?

Hi,
I have the same problem but with 'desktop-file-utils' and fighting him
for some time on my Squeeze box (other Squeeze box is fine).

What was working for me is deleting block inside /var/lib/dpkg/available
where was mentioning old VirtualBox versions.
Now I have VirtualBox 4 so I was delete in /var/lib/dpkg/available all
previous version of VirtualBox.
Before doing that back up /var/lib/dpkg/available just in case
somethings go wrong.

That solve my problem with 'error in Version string
2.1.4-42893_Debian_lenny': invalid character in revision number'

but 'E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)' is still here.

apt-get purge, apt-get install, dpkg -i desktop-file-utils wasn't
helpful on the end it's always 'E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an
error code (2)'

I think it is possible to solve it without re installation; just didn't
found solution yet :-)

* There is some kind of visual interface... Right?

If you mean on GUI yes. Default is Gnome but you can easily download and
install Debian .iso with KDE, XFCE, LXDE or install any other you like.

* I am pretty sure any OS is fine for PHP and AS3 development, so that's
not a problem, but what about support for Debugger flash players
(standalone and in-browser) for Debian, no major problems?

I don't know anything about flash debuggers but in Iceweasel (Firefox on
Debian) you can install FlashFirebug.
More about Debian packages you can find here
http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages

* Will it be feasible to run some kind of Virtual Box on it to play
windows games (logical games mostly)

You can install Virtual Box without a problem. I don't know how it goes
with 3D acceleration and gaming in Virtual Box.

* I have an external HD formatted as NTFS, will there be no problems
with accessing its data?

I have few external HD NTFS and never had any problems.

* When, once, I wanted to install Ubuntu on my drive I had to format
partition into some never-ever-heard-before file system architecture,
would I have to format my stuff too?

Yes. Before installing Debian move all your data on ext. HDD or
somewhere else.

Do not worry, you will be used to that strange file system :-)

* Since my netbook doesn't have a CD Rom and I don't have access to an
external one, I'd like to keep winXP on my system in case I want to go
back, any possibilities of doing so?
* Is there some guide on installing Debian from USB drive?

You can, it's called 'dual boot'.
If you don't have previously experience with any Linux, back up all your
HDD, make extra partition where will be Debian and when Debian installer
ask you where to install OS point to that partition.

When grub is installed he will notice that you have Ms. When you turn on
box grub will be loaded and ask you what you wont Debian or Ms.

To put Debian on usb use http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

If you think Debian is the wrong choice, could you point me towards some
other system?

If I'm think it's a wrong choice I will not be here :-)
Well that depend what you expect and what stories about Debian or Linux
did you hear.

Thanks in advance,

a simple mixer. I don't. I simply couldn't work out how to work them,
partly because I did not even know the vocabulary.

Debian Lenny is what my husband has currently on his computer. He doesn't

Hi,
what do you think about Audacity?
Nice big buttons just like on tape-recorders.

And if there is a need for sound editing like cutting, up/down volume,
exporting in various formats it is very easy.

Krec, Audacity

etc.
are non-starters because they assume that you would know how to use at
least
a simple mixer.

Forgot to say...you don't have to know that.
There is only one slider for input (mic.) volume and that's enough.
Look at the pic.: www.dobosevic.com/nix/audacity.png

When I recording my voice I only put correct mic. volume and press red
button for recording.

Gary R.

Hi,
if I understand correctly you have 2 different email accounts for
example m...@examle1.com and m...@example2.com?

And I guess you mean icedove not iceweasel?

In that case in debian machine create in icedove mail account from win2k
box, then go to edit-account settings-your new mail acc. and under
server settings in local directory chouse path where you wont to store
mails from win2k.
Under copies folders check that sent, draft etc. folder are on your
win2k mail account.

After that copy/paste mail directory from win2k thunderbird to debian
icedove directory.

If you have lenny i guess you have previous version of icedove 2.X so
when you create your account uncheck something like Put all mail in
local directory.

If you have version 3.X there is not that check box.

On 12/27/2010 08:09 PM, Stan Hoeppner wrote:

What's a good replacement for the curator photo album generating
package? It was dropped from Debian at least a couple of years ago.

I'd like something that doesn't suck performance wise due to python code
that can't be optimized by psyco. Something that uses multiple
processes or threads would be fantastic as I'll be running it on a dual
CPU box, one that is rather old, 500 MHz CPUs. Curator is a serial
single threaded process and thus only uses on CPU (or core).

Basically I want the features of curator, but in something that runs
much faster. Generating the individual image pages takes _forever_ on
dirs with thousands of jpg files. I'm guessing if someone with the
necessary python skill rewrote curator's function layout in a manner
that psyco could optimize, that it would be plenty fast on the
aforementioned machine. Currently it takes on the order of .5 seconds
to generate each ~2K html page. A 500 MHz CPU should be able to
generate at least 10 times as many html pages per second if the curator
python code performance didn't suck.

I'd like something similar that generates static image pages with the
nice index pages curator does. A db driven system won't work for
creating CDs full of images to distribute.

Hi,
I'm not using any photo album so I don’t know how this 2 works but they
generate html/css/js without db. It seems that they are very
customizable and that have lot of options. Both are in Perl.

the motherboards. (I have multiple systems connected to the monitor) For my

putting in a video card is not out of the question.

So, questions:
1. Will my on-board video cards be able to drive a new monitor to full
resolution? If not, will I be able to run the GUI in a usable fashion or
will I get a fuzzy display or will there be other compromises?

Probably will but that depends on video card specification.
If your video card is capable of XxY resolution and your monitor will
have the same than everything will be ok.

2. Are there monitors that do not support text mode out there?

I don't think so.

3. Are there any other general suggestions about the wide screen monitors that
I should be aware of?

Thanks,

Mark

Probably everything will work just fine. In Lenny period I switched from
19 CRT to 24 LCD without a problem.

I tried installing the Windows on the new disk but it wouldn't install
with the first drive present. It said it couldn't create or locate an
existing partition or something. The cure here according to
Windows folks seemed to be to disconnect the other drive (with the
Linux on it) from the motherboard and then reboot and install the
Windows.

I had similar situation (Windows7+Debian, 2 hdd).
I was disconnected Debian hdd, install Windows 7 without messing with grub.
When I power box pressing F8 (boot menu) and chose should I boot Debian
hdd or Windows7 hdd.

In this way I don't have to mess with grub if I remove Windows7.

First off, I'm a video editing newbie. Not a linux newbie. I've been
running Debian since Bo.

I have a lot of video tapes lying around and I am afraid they will

VCRs?) I expect it will be difficult to repair my two VCRs when they
start to die on me. So I want to convert my analog tapes to digital
files while I can and write them out to DVD.

When I mentioned this to a friend, he pulled out a WinTV card, using a
Hauppauge PVR-250. Are there drivers for this in the standard kernel
tree, or do I need to get them from somewhere?

Also, what is the best capture and editing software for a newbie with
minimal needs. No flame wars, please. I know that Cinelerra is
available, but I don't know what else there is, or how easy they are to
use. For now all I really need to do is capture the analog signal from a
VCR and save it to a file. Then I want to edit out the commercials,
possibly combine multiple files, and then save the resulting file to a
dvd iso that can be mounted directly and played back, or written to a dvd.

Hi,
for video editing I'm using Kdenlive.
He has option for firewire, screen grab, video4linux and of course input
from hdd.

You can make your own rendering template, modified his or just use his.
If you wont edit video there are time-line for video and audio, project
monitor, record monitor, clip monitor etc.

You can find lots audio and video effect, title editor, dvd wizard etc.

This is how he looks http://dobosevic.com/nix/kdenlive.png

I really

want
Thunderbird and Firefox, with their familiar icons, on my screen, not the
goofy clones that Debian has come up with.

Why not install Firefox and Thunderbird in /opt?
I was looking to

replace
SuSE 10.1, because it wouldn't play music; none of the SuSEs I have had
ever
would.
That's funny! My friend say the same thing and I never get video but can
audio. It was very long time ago so maybe things changed.

I hate to ask the question this way, but in terms of
problems/fixes/downtime--approximately how often do you find that you
have to 'fix' something in Sid? 1x week, 1x month? (I know that my
MMV, but if I start playing with either testing or unstable, I don't
want to get into a problem/find fix/fix lather/rinse/repeat cycle too
often).

I have one Sid for 1y or little more and don't have any problem except
with networking and I can thanks for that to Broadcom.

debian list problem

2010-11-03 Thread godo

Hi all,
I have problem with debian list last few month. In 90% my mail is
rejected with this message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at cpoproxy1-pub.bluehost.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

Giving up on 82.195.75.100.

I can sent/replay mails only if i send them several in a row. Then there
is a chance that one mail come to the list.
My server support told me that everything is fine and that this is
lists.debian.org problem.
I was sent mail to listmas...@lists.debian.org before few days but there
is no answer.
Does anybody know how can I contact listmas...@lists.debian.org and fix
this problem?

Thanks for answer. Yes, I'm on http://www.mail-abuse.com/ and I don't
know why.

I contacted them and hope that I will soon be removed.

Re: OpenOffice and the GTK file dialog box

2010-11-01 Thread godo

It makes a difference on mine when I choose a new file to edit. If I
uncheck that box I get the usual gnomey file chooser, and if I check it
I get the openoffice chooser.

I don't know is it because I use KDE, but in both case it's the same dialog.

Any way of salvaging hd contents?

Hi,
can you mount debian (mepis or any other) live cd and copy your data to
another hdd?
Does dpkg works? If yes you can the same way put some essential packages
(apt, nano...) in broken debian.

this internal dialog box and the system's ordinary one. I'd much
rather use the standard GTK stuff that I'm used to, but there's no such
option where the help says it's supposed to be. Can anyone else find
this option?

Perhaps I wasn't clear; I'm interested in filename / path completion in
dialog boxes, not word completion within documents. And I'd also just
like to revert to the system dialog boxes, as per the help screen.

Sorry my mistake.
It should be under ToolsCustomize Keyboard tab, but I can find it.
