Dosemu help
Hi , folks; I installed the dosemu_0.66.7-13.deb with raw config.sys and autoexec.bat. After I boot to drive A (executing dos -A with a Win95 bootdisk in /dev/fd0), the MSDOS editor can start but not functioning at all. Thanks for any help in advance. Alan Tam
Dosemu Help
Dear Debianers, I need some basic help on dosemu. I use Debian 2.0, kernel 2.0.36, and this is my /etc/fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # file system mount point type options dump pass /dev/hda1/c msdos defaults0 2 /dev/hda2/ ext2defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1 /dev/hda3none swapsw 0 0 /dev/fd0 /dosfloppy msdos user, noauto 0 0 /dev/fd0 /ext2floppyext2user,noauto 0 0 proc /proc procdefaults0 0 I'd like to run a couple of programs which reside in my dos partition /c from within the DOS box under X11. I also would like to know how I install further DOS programs: it would be ideal to keep them all in /c and free the precious Linux partition from any contamination. For this, I edited /usr/lib/dosemu/commands/config.sys as follows: rem This sets up the redirector to look at the Linux root directory. rem this is probably not a good idea once you have dosemu installed rem Following line commented by myself (12-98): rem device=c:\emufs.sys / device=c:\ems.sys rem Lines below added by myself (12-1998): rem Below I use n: (not g: as in the dosemu-HOWTO) as of the file rem /etc/mtools.conf: install=C:\subst.exe n: c: install=c:\lredir.exe c: LINUX\FS\c Is this correct? I read that the two config.sys must be identical: which ones, the above and the one in /var/lib/dosemu/hdimage.first? If so, how do I copy (is this the right word?) the above config.sys into /var/lib/dosemu/hdimage.first (provided this config.sys is correct)? Apart from this, I have only set a couple of things in /etc/dosemu/conf: keyboard, mouse. Do I have to uncomment the following line in /etc/dosemu/conf for what I want to do? #disk { partition /dev/hda1 readonly } ## 1st partition on 1st ... Finally, what I think is the first question that one should find answered in any HOWTO or README: what is hdimage (hdimage.first)? Thank you. You need to install OpenDos, DR-Dos or M$-Dos if you want redirection - mkfatimage16, seg faults. For instance, I tried mkfatimage16 -p -f dos_img /the/directory/* and it just gives me a Segmentation Fault. Also, I tried _not_ using the -f switch, just to see if mkfatimage16 gets anywhere, and, in fact, it does write crud to the screen, but still seg faults after a bit. mkfatimage it seems to work for me mkfatimage -p dir/* dos_image - /etc/dosemu/conf modification, doesn't appear to do anything. I use /dev/sda1 as my Windows/DOS partition, so I tried adding the following line to my dosemu configuration file: disk { partition /dev/sda1 } and nothing happens. I assumed this would appear under the as the next available drive letter, but I can't get to this data anywhere. No, it should appear as C: -Michele

It works fine if you follow the procedure to install with MS-DOS. Bob Bob Nielsen Internet: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tucson, AZ AMPRnet: [EMAIL PROTECTED] DM42nh http://www.primenet.com/~nielsen
Dosemu help
Hello all, I downloaded dosemu 0.64.3 and compiled it according to the Quickstart. I am currently running kernel 2.0.9. If I understand correctly, my kernel DOES NOT require any patching to enable vm86plus with this latest version of dosemu. When I try to run dos I get, vm86plus service not available in your kernel. The kernel IS compiled with SYSVIPC enabled - this is the IPC required by dosemu is it not? When I compile dosemu with no vm86plus, it works ok, but I want this feature enabled. What am I doing wrong? The documentation is rather outdated but from what I have read, vm86plus should work. Thanks to Phillipe Troin for the suggestion on Afterstep, installing the 8 bit icons did restore my colormap. 8-) Pat Van Ryn [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
