Acabo de instalarme el kernel 3.2 desde los backports gracias a todos, queria hacerlo a la manera debian pero creo que me iba llevar mas tiempo, cual es la desventaja o ventaja frente a las dos opciones?

La diferencia (ni mejor ni peor, sólo distinto) es que un kernel instalado desde backports ya está compilado con unas opciones determinadas que te pueden interesar o no pero no puedes cambiar mientras que un kernel compilado manualmente por ti puedes moldearlo a tu gusto. Le dicen a la manera debian a la forma de empaquetar e instalar el kernel, para que después puedas desinstalarlo tranquilamente. De todos modos, el mayor problema no es este, sino la configuración de las fuentes. Aí es donde no me gusta meterle manos, ya que lleva mucho trabajo. Instalate el paquete ncurses-dev y ejecuta make menuconfig para utilizar una interfaz basada en menús. Te recomiendo que leas algo antes de hacer esto, ya que perderás mucho tiempo si lo haces solo y no te da resultados. Salut liste, étant donné que la plupart des kernels V.3.n ralentissent énormément mon vieux mono-cpu, j'ai voulu compiler un V.2.6 (2.6.39.4); cependant la compilation plante au bout de ~1'. S'il est vrai que Linux a une régulière tendance à l'embonpoint (en 99 on faisait tourner un router sur un 486DXII66, 12 MB de RAM 740 _MB_ de HD (rempli à 40%), ma bécane a 1.5 GB de RAM - et pour ce qui est des packages, il ne faut pas oublier qu'ils sont compilés en _i386_ en écrasante majorité (excepté le kernel). C'est *justement* l'une des toutes premières forces de Linux: il permet de ne pas être obligé de changer sa machine parce qu'une bande de marketteux maffieux (maffieux, parce qu'ils sont tellement liés à un fondeur qu'on ne sait plus qui est le cul et qui est la chemise) a décidé qu'il fallait bloater l'os pour forcer les gens à changer de machine de façon à ce que le fondeur vende plus de CPUs... Il n'y a d'ailleurs qu'à 'gader l'engouement que provoque les ordinateurs plugin et autres cartes de faible puissance ailleurs qu'ici (pourquoi pas ici, d'ailleurs??): je n'en connais aucun qui tourne avec un autre OS que Linux (et peu d'autres qui ne consomment que 5W en fonctionnement à 100%). La vulnerabilidad, en la implementación Linux del protocolo Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS), afecta a versiones no parchadas del kernel de Linux, comenzando con la 2.6.30, donde fue incluido por primera vez el protocolo RDS. Según VSR Security, el equipo de investigación que descubrió el agujero de seguridad, las instalaciones Linux solo son afectadas si la opción de configuración del núcleo CONFIG_RDS está activada, y si no hay restricciones para los usuarios no privilegiados de cargar la familia de paquetes de módulos, como es el caso en las mayoría de las distribuciones. Debido a que las funciones del núcleo responsables del copiado de datos entre el kernel (kernel) y el espacio de usuario falló al verificar que la direccion provista por usuario actualmente reside en el segmento de usuario, un atacante local podía libera una llamada a una función socket preparada especialmente para escribir valores arbitrarios en la memoria del núcleo. Apoyandose en esta capacidad, es posible para usuarios no privilegiados el escalar sus privilegios a los de root. I was just wondering what the advantages of using the nvidia-kernel-2.6
packages were in contrast to what I am/have been using which is the nvidia-glx
package which depends on nvidia-kernel-dkms to compile the NVIDIA driver module
(with the kernel headers) into
/lib/modules/${kernel_version}/updates/dkms/nvidia.ko
Has the nouveau code been stripped from the nvidia-kernel-2.6 packages so that
it only used the NVIDIA driver module?

I think (but maybe wrongly) that nvidia-kernel-dkms kernel will allow
you you build/install a new kernel despite there is a matching in header
files, whereas nvidia-kernel needs an exact kernel headers
correspondence.

so that it only used the NVIDIA driver module?
I also think that nuvó driver follows a different path (it uses another
driver set) :-?

problem with alsa driver for Sound blaster 16 in etch (kernel 2.6)

kernel 2.6 and /etc/network/interfaces problem
Hello, after upgrading from kernel 2.4 to 2.6 (2.6.8 sarge and 2.6.15 etch) i have a problem with virtual interfaces (e.g. eth0:1) in /etc/network/interfaces with mapping-scripts. When i define 2 virtual interfaces the first run of ifup -a stopps directly after calling the mapping-script for the first interface(the interface is not up). Zmiana konfiguracji CP jest poza zasięgiem (tak samo jak odejście od CP na rzecz innego rozwiązania VPN/FW) Cóż, może jeszcze spróbuje powalczyć z 2.4.18 ale chyba muszę się pogodzić z callback-iem (przynajmniej do czasu aż dostanę laptoka z Core 2 Duo i VT ;o Jeśli terminal (windowsowy) ci wystarczy to zainstaluj vmplayera (chwilowo vmware dla utworzenia obrazów dysków ) , na tym zainstaluj śladowego windowsa w którym wrzucisz CP i terminalem do firmy np na biurko na pcta albo na terminal serwer , jeśli masz. Na laptoku della C610 z 512MB testowo postawiłem w2k i CP i dostaję się do firmy bez problemów, trochę trzeba uważać z vmplayerem po upgradzie jądra, bo moduły vmplayera trzeba przekompilowywać i toche marudzić potrafi przy zmianach gcc. Próbowałem z qemu ale CP nie chciał się zainstalować, lokalnie można kopiować między win - lin po sambie. W pełni ms-free to nie jest ale na sytuacje podbramkowe - skuteczne. Hello all, after upgrade from sarge to etch direct rendering for my ati rage mobility mach64 card is not working anymore. I have self-compiled kernel 2.6.19. I downloaded both : common-20060403-linux.i386.tar.bz2 mach64-20060325-linux.i386.tar.bz2 but I am unable to install the second one, it aborts attempting to build mach64 module for the kernel, saying that I need the latest kernel source (!): This version of the script supports 2.4.x and 2.6.x kernels. Keypress multiplying under X and kernel 2.6.x
Hi, I've been having a weird problem with X and 2.6.x kernels (I'm currently running somewhat uptodate unstable using xserver-xorg 1:7.1.0-8 and linux-image-2.6.18-3-486 2.6.18-8). Every now and then, without any pattern or triggering event that I can determine, CPU usage spikes to 100% and a keypress is multiplied dozens, hundreds or even thousands of times. This happens across all different contexts within X, such as typing text in an application or an xterm, using an application's hotkeys, and even using the WM's (Xfce) control keys. I have never seen the problem at the console (not even when X is running and I shift back to the console with alt-ctrl-F1), and I have never seen it under kernel 2.4.x (currently kernel-image-2.4.27-2-386 2.4.27-11). Anyone have an idea about what's going on? Should I report a bug against xserver-xorg or against the kernel? kernel 2.6 and amd K6-II
Hi all, Till yesterday, i was using linux-image-2.4-27-2-k6 on my amd k6-II (64 Mo RAM). I decided to upgrade the kernel. In a first time i tried linux-image-2.6-486. No problem. Really. Second i said myself : Dummy, amd k6-II is not a 486 processor but a 686. So i got linux-image-2.6-686. It's not written on it that it works on AMD K6-II. But i tried and ... nothing append. After loading wmlinuz the computer go back loading the bios. After having read http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=319878 i ask me if the problem with 2.6-686 is due to the processor or to the low memory (64 Mo). And of course, i ask me what is better : to go on with 2.6-486, to try again with 2.6-686 after increasing memory, or (really last) to return to 2.4. Can someone give me an advice ? The bug report mentions problems with loading the initial ram disk with RAM equal to or less than 48MB so I very much doubt that that is your problem. The problem of mouse shutting off is while booting into any distro using 2.6.x kernel.Its not only debian kernel thats facing this prob.. even downloaded vanilla kernel and tried it.. still no sucess..Well modprobing mousedev and lil bit of tweaking solves the prob.. but don know how to do it in live distros using 2.6.x's .

Se nao me engano, existe proteção nativa contra syn-floods chama syn_cookies ou algo do tipo, e basta ligar no /proc. Leandro, boa tarde, Pra começo de conversa se comecarmos a falar em kernel seguro troque a versao do seu pela mais atual, pois até a serie 2.6.16 tem um vulnerabilidade seria de ganho de privilegios... Agora patchs de aplicacoes tem uma serie deles, precisa ver qual é sua necessidade e uso para esse sistema. Vale ressaltar que o que o colega Marcos colocou não é um patch propriamente dito, mas sim uma implementacao necessaria para protecao e seguranca do sistema. kernel 2.6 sur serveur dell 1850
Bonjour, J'ai installé Sarge sur un serveur Dell 1850 avec un kernel 2.4. Jusque là, pas de problème, ça démarre bien, tout marche impec. Le soucis, c'eqt que je veux le passer en kernel 2.6 pour faire tourner des vserver dessus. Quand j'installe le 2.6.8-3-686-smp via apt, j'ai un kernel panic (il manque un driver MEGARAID), et quand j'essaie de le recompiler, le driver MEGARAID est compilé par défaut. Avec cette solution, pas de kernel panic, mais l'écran reste noir, et je n'ai apparemment pas de réseau, je suppose que la machine ne démarre pas du tout. Hallo, dank eurer kompetenten Hilfe hatte ich unter Kernel 2.4 den Sound zu vollsten Zufriedenheit aller User zum Laufen gekriegt. Nun genießen wir nach einem Festplattencrash und Neuinstallation die Vorzüge von Kernel 2.6. Wenn | dieser an ist, höre ich bei mir auch nichts. Die Lautstärkenregellung | läuft über VIA DXS 1 und nicht über PCM wie sonst üblich. PCM ist ein | Schalter, der für normales MP3-Playback eingeschaltet sein muss. Damit | sollte es gehen. :-) ` Ich habe also auch jetzt alles mit IEC958 im Namen ausgeschaltet (hoffentlich war das jetzt nicht zu viel?); ABER: DXS 1 wird diesmal auch von alsamixer -V all nicht angezeigt! (Ich erinnere mich genau, dass das unter Kernel 2.4 ganz rechts zu sehen und angeschaltet war.) Der Stecker vom Lautsprecher steckt in der gleichen Buchse wie immer. Der Warn-beep kam sonst übrigens immer direkt aus dem PC; von dem ist jetzt, wie gesagt, auch nichts mehr zu hören. patch string em kernel 2.6
Caros, estou com extrema dificuldade de fazer o kernel 2.6 funcionar com string, aplico no kernel string, psd e o layer7. Olayer7 e o psd funcionam sem problemas mas o layer 7 sempre da erro: spyder:/usr/src/patch-o-matic-ng-20050913# iptables -A INPUT -m --string terra -j DROP iptables v1.3.5: Couldn't load match `--string':/usr/local/lib/iptables/libipt_--string.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information. An irgendein Verzeichnis install des Hostsystems muss ja die Root-Partition des zu installierenden Systems gemountet sein. Dann kannst Du z.B. die Datei /etc/fstab des zu installierenden Systems mit z.B. dem vi des Hostsystems editieren durch vi install/etc/fstab 2. Nachdem Du APT für das zu installierende System eingerichtet hast (geeignete /etc/apt/sources.list für das zu installierende System - etwa vom Hostsystem, sofern das ein Debian läuft), kannst Du ein bel. DEB-Paket paket über chroot install apt-get install paket installieren. Vorher natürlich proc mounten und APT-Paketlisten aktualisieren: chroot install mount none -t proc /proc chroot install apt-get update Jetzt solte das Prinzip klar sein. Dirk

Ich habe einfach die Basisinstallation gemacht und anschließend in die sources.list den Backport-Pfad mit angegeben. Danach den Kernel 2.6.16 installiert mit allen Abhängigkeiten, die dabei aufgelöst werden. Das Ende vom Lied ist wieder eine Meldung der Art: Could not find mkinitramfs-kpkg mkinitrd.yaird at /var/lib/kpkg/tmp.ci/preinst line 236, STDIN line 9 ... Running depmod. Finding valid ramdisk creators. Failed to find suitable ramdisk generation tool for kernel version 2.6.16-2-686 on running kernel 2.4.27-2-386 in mkinitramfs-kpkg mkinitrd.yaird Leider kenne ich mich mit den Kernels und dem Drumherum nicht so gut aus. Darum weiß ich hier nicht so recht weiter. Außerdem will er unbedingt mit dem Kernel lilo installieren und grub löschen. Das wollte ich so eingentlich auch nicht. Aber das ist im Moment eher das kleinere Übel, solange der neue Kernel nicht läuft. Habe ich hier irgendwas vergessen oder was kann ich noch unternehmen? Hallo zusammen, ich habe mir o.g. Notebook zugelegt. Darauf möchte ich gerne Debian Sarge insallieren, wie auf meinen anderen Rechnern auch. Bisher habe ich es allerdings nur bis zum Abschluss der Basisinstallation gebracht. Als nächstes möchte ich einen neuen Kernel installieren. Aktuell ließ sich nur 2.4.27 installieren. Und da werde ich aus dem, was ich über Googlen herausgefunden habe, nicht so recht schlau. Eigentlich möchte ich 2.6.16 installieren (über Backports), aber das geht wohl nicht, wenn nicht voher schon 2.6.8 drauf war. Nur wie bekomme ich den Kernel 2.6.8 zum laufen? Hat hier jemand schon Erfahrung, wie man auf diese Kiste einen aktuellen 2.6-er Kernel unter Sarge draufbringt? Schon mal danke im Voraus. ALSA, AWE32, kernel 2.6 issues?
I recently upgraded my kernel from 2.2 to 2.6; various other problems eventually required a complete OS reinstall. I can't get my sound card (Creative SB AWE 32) to work with ALSA; it worked fine under OSS. Is there anything special about Debian that may require me to configure things differently from the ALSA documentation?

Tach auch, hatte ähnliche Kämpfe mit ner AWE32 durch. Habs wie folgt gelöst: hier gecheckt, ob die Karte überhaupt pnp-fähig ist - war meine nämlich nicht! http://www.tarigon.de/tramp/sblist.html Wenn sie es nicht ist ist, dann muss isapnp=0 gesetzt werden. Wenn der Synthi funktionieren soll, dann noch das emu8000 Modul dazu, dann sollte alles passen. Gruß, Arndt! PS.: wohin schreibe ich die Parameter für die Karte (io, dma etc)? Zur Zeit hab ich sie in der modules, das funktioniert aber sieht nicht wirklich schön aus. Laut den immer wieder nachzulesenden Äußerungen von Tosatti, Torvalds, Cox und weiteren Kernel-Entwicklern ist 2.4 im Deep Freeze Maintnance Mode, in dem keine größeren Änderungen mehr vorgenommen werden. Direkte Quellen (MIDs, etc.) habe ich derzeit nicht. Ein LKML-Archiv sollte weiterhelfen. Hibernate (Laptop) und Kernel 2.6
Guten Abend, ich habe mich heute mal getraut und meinem Billig-Laptop Debian verpasst. Etch ist super. From the scrath hat alles (X.org) funktioniert. Nun geht es mir um Hibernate. Ich habe beim Suchen das .deb hibernate gefunden, dass aber einen gepatchten Kernel voraus setzt. KDE unterstützt den Hibernate Modus. Nur tut es nichts. Ich vermute da fehlt noch was. Ich würde gerne wissen was. Komme ich nicht drum herum meinen Kernel zu patchen, oder gibt es noch einen anderen Weg? KDE hatte mich schon hoffen lassen, dass es auch so einfach geht wie die Etch Installation. KDE hatte mich schon hoffen lassen, dass es auch so einfach geht wie die Etch Installation. Das Hibernate-Paket ist nur ein Skript das suspend2 (und anderes) richtig initialisiert. Es unmountet z.B. Windows Partitionen und schickt dann den Rechner mit suspend2 in Tiefschlaf. Also um das Kernel-patchen kommst du nicht rum wenn du suspend2 verwenden willst. Die 2.6er kernel haben eigentlich von Haus aus eine s2d Lösung an Bord, jedoch ist suspend2 unproblematischer. Wichtig ist, dass du den Kernel ohne initrd-Support konfigurierst und kompillierst. Damit funktioniert suspend2 nämlich nicht (zumindest bei mir). Ich habe beim Suchen das .deb hibernate gefunden, dass aber einen gepatchten Kernel voraus setzt. KDE unterstützt den Hibernate Modus. Nur tut es nichts. Ich vermute da fehlt noch was. Ich würde gerne wissen was. Komme ich nicht drum herum meinen Kernel zu patchen, oder gibt es noch einen anderen Weg? KDE hatte mich schon hoffen lassen, dass es auch so einfach geht wie die Etch Installation. Funktionierendes ACPI ist da sehr hilfreich. Was sagt den $ grep ACPI /var/log/dmesg und hast du in /proc/acpi eine Datei sleep bzw. was sagt $ cat /sys/power/state? Hibernating mit swsusp ist in neueren Kernels (zumindest 2.6.17, wahrscheinlich frueher) drinnen. Doku dazu findet sich in linux-source/Documentation/power/(swsusp.txt, sollte auch in $SUCHMASCHINE zu finden sein). echo standby /sys/power/state == standby echo mem /sys/power/state == suspend to ram echo shutdown /sys/power/disk; echo disk /sys/power/state == swsusp (zum Probieren mach davor besser ein sync :-)) Auf manchen Rechnern packt das VideoBIOS/VBE in letztem Fall das aufwachen/wiederherstellen der Einstellungen nicht. Moin, irgendwie habe ich mal den Zeipunkt verpasst zuzuhören... Lässt sich in kurzen Worten der Vorteil von 2.6.x gegenüber 2.4.x erklären oder hat da wer einen entsprechenden Link? Ralf

So aus dem Gedächtnis (und nicht unbdingt alles korrekt): - 2.6 hat ein übersichtlicheres menuconfig ;) - 2.6 unterstützt force-unload von modulen - Es gibt ein paar Treiber nicht oder erst später für 2.4 Es kann auch sein, dass 2.4 noch kein frequency scaling kann, sicher bin ich mir da nicht. Um es zusammenzufassen: wenn dir dein jetziger Kernel alle features bietet, die du brauchst, musst du nicht umstellen. Ist swsusp ein Modul? Beim reaktivieren fährt er kurz hoch und fährt sich dann aber sofort wieder runter. Irgendwie komisch. Wobei mir gerade die Idee kommt, dass er den Tastendruck am Laptop falsch interpretiert und somit nur hochfährt zum runterfahren. echo shutdown /sys/power/disk; echo disk /sys/power/state == swsusp Funktioniert scheinbar. Ich bin erstaunt =) Jetzt wird das wohl nur nicht korrekt in KDE integriert sein? Denn der Aufruf aus KDE lässt den Laptop untätig.
