I just downloaded and installed Lyx using aptitude on a Sarge system. The tutorial included with Lyx is about the best beginning reference I've found. Check out CTAN (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network) at www.ctan.org. Leslie Lamport's book(s) on TeX/LaTeX are good. Re: sgml-tools, LinuxDoc, and customization
Hello, Thanks for all of the replies. Last I check out the LDP ( about a week ago ) they said that all HOWTO's still needed to be in LinuxDoc format instead of DocBook. I have not found any information about customizing LinuxDoc though I have found plenty about DocBook. My intention now is to dust off my small amount of sed knowledge and write a sed script that will alter what I need altered. later, joseph -- the LaterDude ICQ: 52640402 [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.ice-works.com/personal/LaterDude/ All opinions expressed are my own and not necessarily those of my employer unless otherwise noted.

Linuxdoc/sgml-tools/perlsgml
I need to use linuxdoc to write some help files, but the sgml2lyx isn't working. I get an error stating linuxdoc.dtd is missing but is is exactly where the script is looking for it. The perlsgml package is broken since the version in bo depends on perl-base and not perl. The version in unstable was corected to depend on perl or perl-base but the file is missing or named completely off the package name. From both directories now. There are files named psgml in both directories. Are the psgml files what I need and will this fix the sgml2lyx problem? If not, what's the deal with sgml2lyx? I cannot produce html files with sgml2html (even example.sgml and guide.sgml). Apparently, other kinds of output work fine.
