Win32 utilities for Debian

1999-02-18 Thread Randy Edwards
I was wondering if someone could recommend some Win32 utilities. The license
on these has to be free, of course full GPL would be nice but the biggest
issue is purely cost since these are going to be used in a school
environment. These are the utilities that I'm looking for:

#1 A decent telnet program that handles screen redraws properly. It seems
that Windows' native telnet program doesn't do such a great job, and I'm
looking for something that will handle keyboard sequences nicely and will
redraw my NetHack screens properly. :-)

#2 A ssh client for Windows.

#3 An X server for Windows. Right now I'm using the MI/X server, which is
okay, but it does seem to die on some programs and can be a little cumbersome
to use.

Anyone have any suggestions on good programs that fit the above categories?
If so, feel free to reply either to the list or to me privately and I'll
condense and post a summary. TIA.

Search on your favorite engine for a program called ewan There's a
win16 version anyway, I believe a win32 as well... I use it because it
sends keystrokes properly! A big plus.

#2 A ssh client for Windows.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone knows of one.

That's what I used for a while. I think it's the best free one. There
was another but I can't remember the name. Now I have inherrited an old
version of eXceed which is nice... there's my advice. Get someone to
donate eXceed to your cause. Good luck, though.

Good luck!

Tera Term Pro seems to be pretty good, and it's a free program. I had
to tweak it's configuration a bit to get the keymapping the way I wanted
it, but otherwise didn't have any trouble. You can find it at
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html;

#2 A ssh client for Windows.

Tera Term Pro has an extension module called TTSSH available, which
gives it the capability to be a ssh client. I don't have it's site
address handy, but I believe the above-mentioned site has a link to it.

#3 An X server for Windows. Right now I'm using the MI/X server, which is

Possibly VNC... take a look at http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/;.

CRT (www.vandyke.com), but it isn't free (demo available).

Teraterm does ssh and also (from memory) ssltelnet. Can't remember the URL.
Gratis but not libre, from memory.

RE: Win32 utilities for Debian - Teraterm for telnet

1999-02-18 Thread simonst
To replace the WIn95 telnet, I highly recommend Teraterm - you can download
it from hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html
