WindowMaker und gnome
Hallo!
T.V.Gnanasekaran [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I want to use windowmaker with gnome panel. can anybody share their configs with me? I can give a description of my current setup. - I have moved away from windowmaker's dock/clip/etc since trying out the stable gnome panel. I disabled clip dock with wmakerconf - I have one visible bottom panel containing deskguide, tasklist, clock etc.; one auto-hide top panel containing menus, minicommander, and launcher buttons for frequently-used apps. This basically replaces my clip dock functionality and seems easier to manage. They are an elegant concept some app icons would never work quite right. Also I find the auto-hide useful. - I disabled all appicons resizebars with the following ~/GNUstep/Defaults/WMWindowAttributes: { * = { NoAppIcon = Yes; NoResizebar = Yes; }; } - windowmaker-gnome ignores gnome panels when maximizing windows; so I use the no window over icons option as a workaround. Enlarge windows to full size manually if needed. - I start up with the following in ~/.xsession: # install any manual edits to wmaker config files mv -b ~/GNUstep/Defaults/new/* ~/GNUstep/Defaults WindowMaker-gnome ~/.xsessionlog 21 Or you could try using gnome-session. Hope this helps, -Simon

You should be able to turn WindowMaker's session management off, by disabling Automatically save session when exiting WindowMaker in WPrefs and selecting Clear Session from the desktop Workspace menu. That should leave gnome-session solely in charge of session management. John P. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Oh - I - you know - my job is to fear everything. - Bill Gates in Denmark

Ok, I think gnome is running fine however I want the panel and midnight commander to start when I startx. Putting these in ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/autostart causes windowmakeer to freeze just as it loads. So how can I get the panel to autoload? Also, on a more general note, is there someway to get autoloading apps to be autoplaced, eventhough I have manual placement turned on? I am basically trying to avoid having to click the mouse to place my eterm when X starts. -Aaron Solochek [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: windowmaker and gnome
It should already be loading, you might find a bunch of errors in your .xsession. it appears there is some bug in loading gnome-panel when you load it the first time. Other times seem to work. bb -Original Message- From: Aaron Solochek [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 1999 9:59 PM To: debian- user Subject: windowmaker and gnome Ok, I think gnome is running fine however I want the panel and midnight commander to start when I startx. Re: windowmaker and gnome
I've never tried to put the panel in autostart, but I put the commands I wants in .xseesion (in your case will be .xinitrc) just before exec wmaker. I even tried the gnome-session and it worked fine, but had the tendency of autoload more than one intances of the same apps. For autpplacing the windows take a look at WPrefs: it will help you configuring wmaker. One of the options is the one you are looking for. graziano On Tue, Jul 06, 1999 at 11:58:46PM -0500, Aaron Solochek wrote: Ok, I think gnome is running fine however I want the panel and midnight commander to start when I startx. Aaron Ok, I think gnome is running fine however I want the panel Aaron and midnight commander to start when I startx. Putting these Aaron in ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/autostart causes windowmakeer Aaron to freeze just as it loads. So how can I get the panel to Aaron autoload? I don't use gnome (yet), but I had a similar problem with window maker freezing when starting xautolock from autostart. Have you put after the commands that start apps in autostart?
