Oder gibt es andere alternativen?

Netscape plugins problem

2001-10-21 Thread Markus Hoenicka
I'm running Debian Potato and need some web browser with encryption
and some plugins. Mozilla in unstable would not install cleanly so I
tried Netscape 6.1. After a custom install (browser, Java plugin,
Flash plugin) Netscape runs fine, but it does not recognize any
plugins but the libnullplugin.so. The other plugins are present, the
Java plugin is a correct symlink to the plugin shipped with the
Netscape install. Java does run from the command line.

I've found some hints in the archives, e.g. setting NPX_PLUGIN_PATH,
but that didn't help either. Is there any magic invocation that will
Netscape see its plugins?

BTW I ran Communicator 4.73, Mozilla 0.9.1 and 0.9.2 previously but I
think that I successfully removed all traces of these versions so this
should not be some interference with a previous install.

regards,
Markus

 Well, almost.  http://flashplanet.com works fine;

nspluginscan has at least one bug left.

So in summary: if you're running Debian and having problems with Flash

The question is: in the apt-upgrade event that fixed the problem, what
packages were upgraded? Based on memory and the timestamps in
/var/cache/apt/archives, I'm certain konqueror and libkonq3 were
upgraded, and I'm pretty sure kdelibs3 and kdebase-libs also. I'm
positive that libqt2 was NOT upgraded. (libqt3 was, but the konqueror
pkg -- which contains nspluginscan - seems to depend only on libqt2 and
not libqt3.)

Glad you are getting there though. :-)

version 5 of Flash is a bit dodgy - can anyone confirm this?

I believe the plugin's a little buggy, but that's a separate issue. To
clarify my original vague gripe (it doesn't work!): Konqueror acts
just like the plugin hasn't been installed at all -- the page's flash
functionality is wholly unexpressed, and a new window pops up to
Macromedia's download page (so I can download the plugin). But
Netscape at least remembers that it has the plugin, even if that plugin
has a bug or twelve.

Then again, if I'm using Konq 2.1 and you're 2.2, and we're both having
the same problem, maybe it *is* the plugin...

Also, are you running Konqueror in a full KDE desktop? I run

Yep. kwin + full kde session.

I'm also discussing this on the kde user list -- when I get a solution
I'll post it to both. Hm, I wonder which list will win the race ;)

Netscape plugins

2000-07-17 Thread FIOL BONNIN Antonio

I imagine that this question is a FAQ, but I don't know where to find the
answer:

I have Netscape installed, and whenever I try to install a plugin,
netscape stops working (Bus error when trying to start it). The only
solution I have found is removing the plugin.

I have tried with the Java plugin 1.2.2 and with rvplayer. I believe that
I have also tried some other plugin, but same problem.

Any hints? Thank you very much.

check the version of your netscape whether it is a lib5 or libc6 one. IIRC
,Java plugin 1.2.2 needs libc6 netsacpe and it was installed and ran

Established bug in bash-2.00. The solution would be to upgrade to

Established bug in bash-2.00. The solution would be to upgrade to
bash-2.01, but that is a libc6-based release available only in unstable,
so it will be a little more trouble. Check the archive for postings on
installing libc6 and the new libraries required for bash.

Yikes! After my fiasco, I'd be inclined to get the bash sources and
compile myself with libc5 on 1.3.1.

You are using bash-2.00, right? :) Upgrade to bash-2.01 in unstable,
that should fix the problem. :) Is it a bug in bash-2.00 or Netscape?
I have no idea. Perhaps bash-2.00 was too strict. :)

My best suggestion is to pull the source package from the debian archives
and build it from there. It shouldn't be too much trouble to do so.

Netscape plugins don't work

1997-08-04 Thread James D. Freels
Sorry if this is a FAQ, but I haven't seen it yet in this news group.

It seems that starting with v 4 of Netscape, the plugins no longer
work. For example, when clicking a .pdf file, the script will no load
up acroread, or a .ram will not load up realaudio. I must fall back
to version 3.01 in order for this to work. I am currently using the v
4.02b7.

A dialog box appears with an error message

sh: -c: line 1: missing closing ')' for arithmetic expression
sh: -c: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token ';'
sh: -c: line 1: '((acroread file.pdf);rm file.pdf)'

I suspect the wrong shell is loaded, but I haven't a clue how to
correct the problem. Anyone else fixed this problem?
