Olá, A linha abaixo do plog apontou um caminho. Aug 2 20:59:32 debian pppd[758]: Failed to create PPPoE socket: Address family not supported by protocol Indicou que o módulo não estava carregado no momento do boot. Após testar com modprobe, resolvi tentar editar /etc/modules para incluir a linha: pppoe Agora parece funcionar na maior parte das vezes. Pois constatei que ele tenta conectar durante apenas uns 2 segundos e, se não conseguir, desiste. A versão anterior ficava tentando BASTANTE tempo antes de desistir, tanto que algumas vezes eu já tinha aberto o kde e tentado navegar quando então ficava disponível a rede internet. Bem, parece que o novo pppoeconf não inclui o módulo em local apropriado. É apropriado colocar isso no /etc/modules? Obrigado. André Felipe

Olá, Continuam os problemas com instalação do sarge 01ago2004. Instale o pacote etherconf para configurar a placa de rede. Pois segui a dica e instalei o etherconf. Ele tentou configurar dhcp. tive de reconfigurar para static, pelo menos (dpkg-reconfigure etherconf). Em seguida, editei /etc/network/interfaces para comentarizar as linhas de static. Então pude chamar pppoeconf e aí pareceu funcionar. É que depois de um boot não carrega mais pppoe. Tenho de entrar novamente em ppoeconf para acionar a conexão adsl. Não adianta simplesmente chamar pon. O curioso é que DEPOIS de configurar com ppoeconf , sem reboot, posso fazer poff e novamente pon que volta. El nuevo pppconfig permite poner un DNS por conexión y especificar qué usuarios pueden ejecutar pppd, bajo Advanced options - Add User (entre otras muchas cositas). Pero ahora no se utiliza `ppp.log', a mi en Potato me lo escribe únicamente en `messages'... que, por cierto, yo lo tengo con permisos `644',por lo que, para hacerle un `tail -f' como usuario no sería necesario incluirlo en el grupo `adm'. ¿Alguien sabe cómo modificar esto? Hola Estoy tratando de dejar de lado wvdial para conectarme a internet, y hasta el momento va bien, pppconfig lo hace muy facil, aun asi tengo unas dudas 1.-¿como hago que un usuario cualquiera se conecte a internet? (si, si se que es tarea del root levantar una interfaz de red, pero hacer su solamente para eso...) 2.-¿como hacer para que ese usuario pueda ver el resultado con plog? 3.-al conectar con pon que hay que hacer para que cuando se corte la coneccion esta se restaure automaticamente como lo hace el wvdial? Hello, My ppp connection quit working this afternoon, and before finding out that there was a problem on my ISP's end, I reran pppconfig, and edited a config file or two, but I can't remember exaxtly what I did. Well now my ISP is back up again, but my PPP connection is broken. Here's the plog output. I reran pppconfig, and edited a config file or two, but I can't remember exaxtly what I did. You changed the value in the IP Numbers screen from the default 'noipdefault' to '192.168.1.10:' . I've , for whatever reason I had (dunno why I did this), deleted /var/log/ppp.log SInce then none of the plog messages appear. I know that plog gets the data from ppp.log, but whenever ppp is working, it no longer seems to write to ppp.log (doesnt create it/write to it when its created). Syslog shows nothing like failure to write a write-protected file or anything... please help me out. Andrew --- Andrei S. Pon doesn't send logging data anywhere. It is just a script that starts pppd. Pppd sends its logging data to syslogd, which sends it on to ppp.log as its config file tells it to. Because syslogd has ppp.log open, removing ppp.log just removed the link. The file still exists and syslogd is still writing to it. As root, type /etc/init.d/sysklogd restart this will restart syslogd, causing it to reread its config file and reopen all its files. Where can I look for error messages, or what else can I do to fix this, besides reinstall, which I am not sure will be possible, since ppp is a dep. for too many packages.? So if the output of the command groups user includes adm, then that user can read the plog (and a bunch of other things, too) but not write to them. adduser user group will add user to group and give him all of the rights and privileges (sp?) he is thereto entitled. as for removing a user from a group, I don't remember off the top of my head and couldn't find the command in two minutes or less. I think one of the scripts in cron.weekly set its permissions to the adm group. Not sure since I use pap, but my log shows all the transactions between the client and server, including the plain text password as gotten from /etc/ppp/peers/* (which is 600 root.root by default). Very simple solution is be careful who you add to groups other than 'staff' and 'users'. Those groups are usually there for administration reasons. plog permissions
Hello, I am currently running hamm. Setting up my machine for dial-up to my isp (tcp/ip) was very simple using ppconfig (My sincere thanks to its author). After setting up everything, as an user I could pon and get connected. I could even type plog and see whether the connection was active or not. After some time, whenever I tried to plog, I got 'Permission denied' message. I tracked it the changed group ownership of /var/log/ppp.log from dip to adm. I reset it. It changed again. Hi all, I have a question regarding plog. I just recently installed Debian, and have no complaints,but I am kind of puzzled. Until about a week ago, the plog command worked beautifully--it showed me everything I needed to know about my ppp connection. But then it stopped logging to /var/log/ppp.log and just put everything into syslog, which is not nearly so easy to use. How can I get it back to logging in ppp.log? Mark, You don't need to reboot to get the deamon to restart. Luckily on this list, I found out that you can do a ps ax and find out which process inetd is. Then do a kill -1 (PS#). That's the numeral one. Then for example, if inetd was process 183, you could do a kill -1 183 and it will stop/restart inetd program. Makes it a lot easier that having to reboot everytime I changed something, which I was doing. I have learn a lot over the past few months just listening to this list. Hope this helps... Any ideas? Did you check /proc/interrupts for interrupt conflicts? Can you dial out from minicom? What device does pppd try to use, /dev/cua* (wrong) or /dev/ttyS* (right)? [PPP] pon and plog not working
Hi, A friend of mine has installed debian on his laptop. I tried running pon. It runs without complaining, but doesn't do anything much. The modem doesn't make any of the usual noises associated with an attempt to connect. When I do plog, it comes up blank. When I do a ps, it seems that pon has indeed started up a couple of processes. These sit there for a few minutes and then die. Other than this I have no idea what is going on. Certainly plog is no help. Any ideas? Does your friend have a line local2.*-/var/log/ppp.log in his /etc/syslog.conf ? I did a diff /etc/syslog.conf /etc/syslog.conf.dpkg-old and came up with: 7,8c7 daemon.* -/var/log/daemon.log mail.*/var/log/mail.log --- daemon.*;mail.* -/var/log/daemon.log 28a28 local2.* -/var/log/ppp.log Does this mean there is a bug with the upgrade procedure? Should I change back to the old file? plog doesn't work anymore under 1.3
Hi, I've just upgraded to 1.3 and tried using ppp. I've managed to connect okay (enabling me to send this email) by plog no longer works. When I type it, it comes up blank. I had a look at /var/log/ppp.log and it is empty. It seems like this file is no longer written to??? PPP connect using pon / poff / plog scripts
Help, I can connect to my ISP using pon as root: when I attempted to use this as user amacater, I got cannot read /etc/ppp.chatscript errors: chmod 755 cured this for /etc/ppp.chatscript and /etc/ppp.options_out but I now get: cannot execute /usr/sbin/pppd - permission denied. I know that pppd is suid, owned by root with group of dip - what do I need to do next. I am *very* unclear on suid so would appreciate any help here - apologies for a possible FAQ. System is Debian 1.2 from i-connect CD mastered 13/12/96 - clean install (previously using 1.1 which I wiped). Here is an 'ls -l' listing for pppd: -rwsr-x--x 1 root dip 75944 Dec 8 01:54 /usr/sbin/pppd* Note that the group 'dip' has read and execute permissions, and other only have execute permission. I'm not exactly sure why (I'm not too clear on SUID root myself), but I was able to solve the problem by adding myself to the the group 'dip' in /etc/group. Perhaps doing a 'chmod o+r /usr/sbin/pppd' as root would do the trick as well? (Haven't tried this, though.) -- Nathan L.
