Re: tape is ejected from drive after 10 mins = no unattended backups
Karsten, Thanks a lot for your reply. This is the output of mt -f /dev/st0 status just after inserting the tape: drive type = Generic SCSI-2 tape drive status = 318767616 sense key error = 0 residue count = 0 file number = 0 block number = 0 Tape block size 512 bytes. Density code 0x13 (DDS (61000 bpi)). Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (4101): BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN After the tape is ejected the output is just: No medium found ¿Do you think it could be a hardware problem? ¿Maybe creating the device again would help? Again, thanks for your help. -- Eduardo Fernández Corrales [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sistelnet Integraciones Telemáticas - http://www.sistelnet.es NUEVOS TELEFONOS: 95-4186897 95-4186898 902-293030 Fax: 954186901 - Original Message - From: kmself@ix.netcom.com To: debian-user@lists.debian.org Sent: Tuesday 14 de November de 2000 3:38 AM Subject: Re: tape is ejected from drive after 10 mins = no unattended backups

I'm still leaning this way. I'd start with investigating similar issues with this drive manufacturer and model. Have you searched Google? I'd also appreciate if you'd quote previous messages -- this issue has lapsed a few days, I don't necessarily remember things from one post to the next. ¿Maybe creating the device again would help? I doubt it. Again, thanks for your help. -- Karsten M. tape is ejected from drive after 10 mins = no unattended backups
Hello, I have a problem witha system installed with Debian 2.2 from scratch. The system has a SCSI DAT Tape drive, that works ok. The only problem is that whenever you insert a tape, if no activity occurs on the tape for 10 minutes, it is ejected automatically. This is a problem as backups cannot run unattended. What could be the problem? Thanks in advance. -- Eduardo Fernández Corrales [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sistelnet Integraciones Telemáticas - http://www.sistelnet.es NUEVOS TELEFONOS: 95-4186897 95-4186898 902-293030 Fax: 954186901

You'll want to refer to the hardware mfgr's documentation for what's standard, on my HP SureStore, a constant green indicates unit ready, slow green flash indicates use, rapid flash indicates eject, yellow and/or red indicate problems. I'd suspect a hardware issue. -- Karsten M. Self kmself@ix.netcom.com http://www.netcom.com/~kmself Evangelist, Zelerate, Inc. http://www.zelerate.org What part of Gestalt don't you understand?
