Vmware / kernel 2.6.35
The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.35-9-desktop). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] Com isso baxei o kernel-headers do kernel 2.6.35, mas mesmo assim não funciono. Como poço gerar os arquivo de cabeçalho que ele solicita para eu conseguir compilar o vmware. Automatic creation of VMware kernel modules?
When building a new kernel (with make-kpkg) I always forget to also build new VMware kernel modules. It would be easy to put make-kpkg and vmware-config.pl into a script, but that is not enough: we have multiple machines using the kernel package I thus create. Therefore, we need to find a way to put the VMware kernel modules into a *.deb for easy installation (or to teach CFengine to install them to the right location). I don't believe you could use the vmware-config.pl script as is since it won't run if the header files don't match the running kernel. I think could create a new script based on vmware-config.pl which will compile the modules and put them in a separate modules.deb file to be installed with the new kernel.deb file. vmware: kernel-source vs. kernel-headers
hi, trying to install vmware, it needs /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h, which is not in the kernel-source package but in kernel-headers. however, kernel-headers alone doesn't suffice for vmware: Building the vmmon module. make: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon-only' make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon-only' make[2]: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon-only/driver-2.4.9' In file included from .././linux/driver.c:11: ../linux/driver-config.h:35: warning: No include path in which to find linux/modversions.h kernel-source, on the other hand, does not contain linux/include/autoconf.h, so i can't `make dep` in it (.config copied from /boot): make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.9/include/linux/autoconf.h', needed by `/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.9/include/linux/modules/signal.ver'. Stop. however, with plain kernel-source, vmware complains: The path /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.9/include is a kernel header file directory, but it does not contain the file linux/autoconf.h as expected. what is the right procedure with kernel-{headers,source}? vmware *does* build if i use the regular /src/src/linux tree i used for make-kpkg... thanks, martin; (greetings from the heart of the sun.) \ echo mailto: !#^.*|tr * mailto:; [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- driving with a destination is like having sex to have children -- backwater wayne miller

This can be done by moving to the /usr/src/linux/scripts/lxdialog directory and issuing the make clean all command. can anyone help please? and also for vmware while a ./install.pl i get : Whoa, something is wrong with the system include files on your machine! The file linux/version.h is for a 2.2.1 Linux system but you are running a 2.2.5 kernel. This will not work for building the VMware device drivers; you must have include files that match the version of your operating system. Any help would be appreciated thnx
