XFree86 4.3 + Teclado ABNT2 em distribu ições Debian e Debian-based

helfen koennten. Diese Optionen sind in deine /etc/X11?Xf86Config-4
einzutragen. Sollte dann _etwa_ so aussehen:

snip
Section Device
Identifier GRAKA
Driver savage
# Option ShadowFB true
Option BackingStore true
Option StrangeLockUps false
# Option intern_disp
EndSection
/snip

Option HWCursor off

.Xmodmap, me la movi a .Xmodmap.old y reinicie. TACHAAAN!! funciona!.
Sencillo, hee!!.

  http://opensource.nchc.org.tw/apt/xfree86-4.3/woody/

This was done with the goal of having DRI support for some Radeon cards
I have in various sytems.

Everything works except that I have a very annoying font problem. The
Symbol font is all screwed up. I notice this especially in
OpenOffice.org, but one can also see the problem in gfontsel.

Lowercase letters are rendered as uppercase letters, and uppercase
letters are rendered as different symbols altogether.

Has anybody seen this problem, and does anybody know the solution?

Thanks,

-Rob Knop

Re: white-ish display with Gigabyte Radeon 9000 pro in XFree86 4.3 - unstable

2004-04-10 Thread Pim Bliek

Symptoms: X starts, but the image is white-ish. I can just read
it... It looks like someone tuned up brightness to an insane
  level... Not workable..

Start with a properly adjusted monitor. Start off with the contrast
all the way up, and the brightness all the way down. Reduce the
contrast, if necissary, to the highest that is comfortable, and
increase the brightness to the lowest comfortable. Adjust XF86's
 gamma for flavor.
Thanx for the tips, but if you read my post more carefully, it was not the
matter of setting the correct brightness of my monitor :).

However, Elimar Riesebieter pointed me in the right direction by sending his X
config, and hinting about drm.

After compiling drm into the kernel the problem went away.

Pim, at what step in the configuration of the kernel you do that?

white-ish display with Gigabyte Radeon 9000 pro in XFree86 4.3 - unstable

2004-04-09 Thread Pim Bliek
Hi,

I am having a problem with my X config. I am trying to fix it for some hours
now, and I am LOST.

Symptoms: X starts, but the image is white-ish. I can just read it... It looks
like someone tuned up brightness to an insane level... Not workable..

I know it can work, I had it working -without my intervention, out of the box-
on Fedora Core 1 before (but I went back to Debian screaming for apt-get and
away from dependancy hell ;))

I am running Unstable, updated. I tried everything I could think of:
- vesa driver of X
- radeon driver of X
- ati driver of X
- fglrx driver of Ati (with all the patches needed, according to HOWTO on
www.rage3d.com)

All this on an ASUS A7N8X Nforce2 board, using a custom-built kernel, 2.6.4.
Agpgart built as a module, same with the NForce2 AGP module. With or without
these modules, no difference...

I am lost... :(

XFree86 4.3, DRI, and ATI Rage 128 Pro freeze

2004-03-05 Thread Ken Bloom
I recently (last week) figured out how to configure my computer's ATI
Rage 128 card to work with DRI and use 3D acceleration. I have a
problem now that if I let xscreensaver launch and start doing
screen savers, eventually one of the OpenGL screensavers will
completely lock up my screen (I can't Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, I can't
switch to a virtual console, and killing the application or x server
over ssh doesn't solve the problem - although ssh still works).

Does anyone have information about solving this situation?

I don't, and I have the same problem (radeon 9800). It just doesn't
respond to Control+Alt+F1. I have noticed though that at the very
beginning (seconds after starting your window manager, with gnome
session it didn't work) it will work.
The other ugly solution that was working very good (perfectly!) was
xserver 4.2 and the ati binaries. But it was giving me headaches with
all the xlibmesa dependencies etc, so I installed 4.3 + vesa (ati just
doesn't have any support for my card yet in 4.3).

Chipset video i865 : pbs avec XFree86 4.3 de unstable

2004-03-03 Thread Emmanuel Halbwachs

Bonjour,

  Fatal server error:
  Caught signal 11. Server aborting

et avec dans le log :

  (EE) Cannot shmat() low memory

I've made some fixed xfree-4.3.0-2.cg.1 packages available at
http://rphlx1.uni-r.de, because older, working packages from
experimental aren't available anymore.

These contain fixes to resolve 3D DRI issues on i386 hardware (patch
already in XSF svn) and fixes to i810 driver for i865G chips. (The
latter are currently reviewed by Branden).

There are also fixed packages available for woody, which, of course, can
only be used in addition to Norbert Tretkowski's xfree86 4.3.0-1.woody.1
backports.

Hope this helps,

XFree86 4.3: insufficient memory for mode

2004-02-18 Thread Lance Simmons
I upgraded to XFree86 4.3 in unstable, but have run into a snag. One of
my cards (an ATI Rage 128) is working the same as before, but my other
card (a Matrox G400) now will only display at 800x600 and XFree86
reports insufficient memory for mode. I didn't notice anything prior
to the insufficient memory message that suggested a problem, but maybe
it's there.

Do I perhaps need to change the configuration file?

experimental. Du müsstes das also mit apt-get install -t experimental

4.3.0 may go to sid, as far as I know. But don't hold your breath
please. Anyway, you can't switch to experimental, as it's not a complete
distribution, and also you don't have to install everything that there.
Just install XFree86 packages. If you still do not want this, then just
add deb-src lines for experimental and build them for unstable for
yourself (you should not do it, as it takes too much time, and XFree86
from experimental is stable, at least I use it for months by now without
problems).

What did you change in the XF86Config-4 file

It looks like the only substantive change was changing ModulePath from
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules to /usr/local/lib/modules.

[And having used this setup successfully from a couple of months, I
switched to the packages in Debian experimental, and they seem to work
fine. Installing xlibmesa-dri, also out of experimental, seems to
have given me direct rendering support vs. the modules in the 2.4.23
kernel; with some hacking I was able to build xlibmesa-drm-src, but
I'm not actually using it. This would seem to suggest that there's
another tarball from xfree86.org you'd need for this functionality.]

 the answer is mu.

If you had asked, Is there a way to install xfree 4.3 on unstable
without pulling experimental, the answer would be yes, go download
the source from xfree86.org and compile it yourself.

depends what you mean by pulling experimental. If you want to just
install xserver-xfree86, xfree86-common, xlibs, xlibs-data, from
experimental (without upgrading any other packages), this is very
simple. Just add experimental to sources.list. Apt never chooses
experimental packages by default unless explicitly told to do so. So
using -t experimental (or better, IMO, explicitly choosing versions in
aptitude), you can pick and choose packages as you please. No custom
preferences or apt.conf settings needed, and no great danger of being
automatically upgraded to experimental.

IMO, there's no reason to regard the experimental X packages as any
worse than self-compiled ones -- I'm sure Branden et al can do a far
better job at putting together a decent XFree86 system than I can, and
I'll gladly profit from their hard work rather than trying to duplicate
it.

This won't do it.

Then just comment out the experimental line in sources.list, and Bob's

And that's not necessary.

experimental is different from ((un)?stable|testing).

Nobody switches to experimental, as it isn't a complete distribution.
While it's probably not universal, packages in experimental are
generally built to be installed individually on unstable systems.

Actually, Andrea's packages are maintained by him (last upload was a few

Wow! This is actually my big project right now! In fact, I've been
working on it for about two weeks. I don't think it is easy. But it was
the only way we could afford and have space for two computers...

I must say, 4.3 makes everything very pretty. Fonts have improved
incredibly since 4.1, and makes text much more readable.

You have to get a kernel patch to be able to also have separate
keyboards that keep their input apart. There are 3: 2.4.21, 2.4.22
and 2.6.0. The best one is 2.4.22. I have used all three.
You should run gdm as display manager because it will sequentially
start the XFree's and take them down in reverse, because if you use
xdm or kdm you might not have an vga-text console as a result.

Yup. I've been sticking to kdm for the time being. Plan to go with gdm
once I'm upgrading to 2.6, but right now, I couldn't get 2.6 to run.

Caveat: no framebuffers. At least not with my graphic cards. There
are other cards running with framebuffers on 2.6.0

Yeah. I've got a Matrox G450 DH, I think that should work (I'm using a
Matrox Mystique as the second now).

Folks this is the greatest thing since Linux and Debian...

Yeah, once you get it working

I have to PS/2 keyboards and a couple of PS/2+VGA cable extensions + a
Tangtop USBPS2 adapter. I could run both mice on USB ports OK, but
because physical space constraints now I need to run them in a
configuration where the primary mouse and keyboard are on the PS/2
ports and the secondary are on the USBPS2 adapter. That's a lot harder.
I'm discussing this on the linuxconsole-dev list right now, but ideas
are always appreciated.

One prob. seems to be the large number of hw combinations possible:
I have 2 USB A4Tech optical mice and 2 PS/2 IBM Model M keyboards.
The keyboards go in the normal kbd and mouse mini-DIN slots and I have
4 USB ports and the mice go in 2 of them and the USB scanner in a third.

HID finds eveything. 2.4.22 and gdm are the recipe for me. Even gpm
doesn't die and I recently have had no VGA-text console wipe-outs, where
he forgets what was on a vc...

H.

Basically, it seems like the keyboard is detected, but then HID just
suddenly gives up breath, and the mouse isn't. This are some lines from
my dmesg:
input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [Tangtop Generic USBPS2] on usb-00:04.2-2
usb.c: hid driver claimed interface dfe5a3c0
host/usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 2, frame# 827
hid-core.c: ctrl urb status -75 received
However, both are detected under my debian 2.4.22 kernel. My logs and
configs for this system is at
http://dev.kjernsmo.net/tmp/multi-user-logs3/
if anybody wants a look... :-)

And I just changed my sources list and ran apt-get dist-upgrade...

Wow... :-)

Cheers,

Most of the people who need newer versions of XFree86 only need it for
support for their graphics card, and all that's necessary for this is to
upgrade just the xserver-xfree86 package. Since there's no need to
upgrade the whole of XFree86 it's quite simple to use a newer server
even if you're running a distribution that doesn't include it.

Multi-user Ruby (was Re: XFree86 4.3 in stable sarge - how likely)

2003-11-03 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
On Monday 03 November 2003 22:58, Hugo Vanwoerkom wrote:

Hold it... If you get this one then you get something terrific
besides just getting 4.3.0: XFree86's that will run side-by-side on
separate display cards. I am using this one right now. I am logged in
on a 17 monitor and to the left of me is another 17 monitor that my
wife uses and the 2 are connected to 2 Nvidia cards (TNT2-AGP,
GeForce4-MX440-PCI) in the one PC in between the 2, running Debian.

Basically, it seems like the keyboard is detected, but then HID just
suddenly gives up breath, and the mouse isn't. This are some lines from
my dmesg:
input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [Tangtop Generic USBPS2] on usb-00:04.2-2
usb.c: hid driver claimed interface dfe5a3c0
host/usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 2, frame# 827
hid-core.c: ctrl urb status -75 received
However, both are detected under my debian 2.4.22 kernel. My logs and
configs for this system is at
http://dev.kjernsmo.net/tmp/multi-user-logs3/
if anybody wants a look... :-)

And I just changed my sources list and ran apt-get dist-upgrade...

Wow... :-)

Cheers,

Kjetil

Thanksto all who replied.
Actually I got a different deb source at people.debian.org from someone on
the swsusp list and installed it last night. X seems to take a long time
to start but it is working well and I can now hibernate from and to X
which is nice.

I've been running Andreas Schuldei's somewhat patched version of XFree86
4.3 for some days now. I have quite a few problems with my machine now,
but none seem related to XFree86.

The fonts have improved _a_lot_ now, so I think I can recommend it.

Best,

I've been running the version from experimental for quite some time now
and it seems ok. I've had a few crashes under load but I'm not sure if
its X or the window manager.

I've been using Daniel Stone's X 4.3 packages for some time with no
problems. Well, actually the machine would lock up periodically when I
was using X but that hasn't happened since I stopped using kde on my
desktop (more than 2 weeks now, i still use konqueror and konsole from
fvwm2 with no problems). I'm running an almost vanilla unstable (except
for the daniel stone X packages and a java 1.4 source) which i keep updated.

 Thanks,

I've been using Xfree-4.3 for awhile (first Daniel Stone's packages
and now 4.3.0-0pre1v4 from experimental) without any serious
problems... on-the-fly resolution switching (CTRL-ALT-+|-) messes up
the display and X needs to be restarted to fix it, SDL apps cause the
monitor to go into standby mode (switch to text then back to X to fix
it).

To install you will need to:

1) add experimental to your sources.list
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian ../project/experimental main contrib non-free

2) explicitly tell apt you want to fetch from experimental, either:
# apt-get -t experimental install ...

For future reference, the x-window-system-core package installs just

Problems installing xfree86 4.3 from experimental

2003-10-21 Thread Alexander Barinov
Hi!

I'm trying to install debian/unstable on my laptop and I badly need
xfree86 4.3 there. I use aptitude for package management.

So that's what I did:

1. Added
  deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian ../project/experimental main
to my sources.list

2. Updated package lists using 'u' key in aptitude.

But aptitude still shows me that I can't upgrade xfree86 packages
because available version is 4.2-12

What am I doing wrong?

IIRC, experimental packages will not show up in the package archive.
You either need to pin them their in your conifguration, or specify
them on the command=line line, like so:
apt-get install x-windows-system/experimental

I am not sure if that is exactly right, but play with the syntax and it
should get you what you need.
