To get ahead of that, I'm proposing a different option: a script (or a set of scripts) that expand various kinds of variables within an executable file. One would use this script as the interpreter for the script, the running script would slurp in its own source, do the substitutions, and echo the results back. This way, the easy things would remain easy, just a #!/usr/lib/debhelper/dh_subst away, and harder things would still be possible. Everybody wins! I was thinking of multiple scripts, all residing under /usr/lib/debhelper/dh_subst_*, and a wrapper script, dh_subst, that would run all of the dh_subst_* scripts. We could have dh_subst_multiarch, dh_subst_env and similar scripts, all doing one thing only. The end result would become something like the following .install file: , | #!/usr/lib/debhelper/dh_subst | debian/tmp/usr/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}/libfoo.so.* | debian/${VARIANT}/foo.conf /etc/foo/ ` I have a half-baked implementation too, but documentation and tests are missing, and as such, I'm not comfortable showing it just yet. I'd like to hear your opinion about this suggestion before I go further. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.1.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages debhelper depends on: ii binutils2.22-1 ii dpkg-dev1.16.1.2 ii file5.09-2 ii html2text 1.3.2a-15 ii man-db 2.6.0.2-3 ii perl5.14.2-6 ii po-debconf 1.0.16+nmu1 debhelper recommends no packages. Bug#652819: packaging for Debian and possible improvements
Hello Antoine, much thanks for your email. Unfortunatly I have not the time to manage the ppa like I want. I have enough to do with other stuff around LiCo. ;) If you have enough knowledge with bash scripting and ppa building, then you may of course overtake the whole ppa thingy and manage it. Your ideas are sounding very good. Would be nice to have that in. Tell me what you would need from me and I'll do my best to give it to you. I have opened the ITP #652819 to followup on this work. I see you have packaged the script as a PPA on Launchpad, that is a great start! https://launchpad.net/~alex-mieland/+archive/ppahttps://launchpad.net/%7Ealex-mieland/+archive/ppa I have looked at the package, and I can think of a few improvements, and I would like to discuss with you if you are open to those ideas. 1. it could be interesting to automatically run (through Cron) the script on a regular basis 2. we could use debconf prompts to ask the user for its identity 3. we could create a sandbox so that the script doesn't run as root What do you think? Thanks for the package, A. -- Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur. Whatever is said in Latin sounds profound.

The EIGENSTRAT method uses principal components analysis to explicitly model ancestry differences between cases and controls along continuous axes of variation; the resulting correction is specific to a candidate marker's variation in frequency across ancestral populations, minimizing spurious associations while maximizing power to detect true associations. Bug#639910: some hurdles packaging sbt
On Tuesday, December 20, 2011 7:30:07 PM UTC+1, thkoch wrote: Hi, I've opened a pull request to get my current attempt of bootstrapping sbt into sbt upstream: I think, it's a laudable effort to get sbt into debian. Once sbt is bootstrapped, is it possible to rely on an old version to build new ones? I.e. is it enough that an alternative build file is only added for the first released version and afterwards it could rely on an older self for further builds? Can't you then put the alternative build file directly into the debian source patch for the first revision?

Bug#592218: maven 3 packaging
Le mercredi 21 décembre 2011 11:28:07, Ioan Eugen Stan a écrit : Hello everybody, Hi Ioan! I wish to see maven 3 in the next Debian release so I decided to give a hand in packaging it. I have some experience in using maven but I'm not very familiar with it's internals. Kind of the same goes for I'm sure this will change once I start diving in. Any help is welcome on this package. I would like help to get me started like: what package can I start with?. It would be great if we can have a short voice session to get me up to speed. Please understand that I would like to know how to navigate the process. You can have a quick overview of actual packaging state here [1]. All dependencies of maven are now packaged and in unstable. I'm working on last package : maven itself :) Git repository with maven upstream tarball + debian packaging is here [2]. I'm targeting Maven 3.0.4 (which should be out soon now). You can start by reviewing this package, building it locally (with git-buildpackage) and test this maven with your own project.
