So ABI of version 8 is taken care as I understand. Also, Mike Gabriel's work seems to have done somethings interesting on old Fathi's version and made many improvements. thanks for pinging us! I agree, libjpeg-turbo has to be in Wheezy!!! Fathi, please send us a notice what you plan on this package. I see Fathi being quite active. I have made packages for libjpeg-turbo 1.2.0. It builds OK. (Not much useful to replace current libjpeg due to conflicts caused with many packages. But who cares if it is used in the chroot to build virtualgl :-) But I am not really up to maintaining this complicated package. My build result and git record are here as tar: http://people.debian.org/~osamu/libjpeg-turbo-1.2.0-osamu.tar.gz Since -dev package is the only ones desparatedly needed, ... This is the most important thing to get now. Maybe in post-wheezy, people can discuss transition from libjpeg to libjpeg-turbo. This package is very tricky since it tries to replace libjpeg. Regards, Osamu CCed: Bill who is libjpeg maintainer. As far as I know libjpeg is not really concerned here. virtualgl only links to libturbojpeg. So there really are two issues in a single report: 1. optimized jpeg lib, as a replacement for libjpeg8 2. getting bumblebeed/virtualgl/turbojpeg(only) in debian Maybe it would be easier to only focus on (2) ? 2cts -M -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#661106: marked as done (RFH: scim -- smart common input method platform)
Your message dated Sun, 27 May 2012 09:20:02 + with message-id e1syzdq-0007ub...@franck.debian.org and subject line Bug#661106: fixed in scim 1.4.13-1 has caused the Debian Bug report #661106, regarding RFH: scim -- smart common input method platform to be marked as done. It enjoys widespread and growing use. scim is scheduled to be eventually obsoleted by ibus. scim still has five times the user base and that base in Debian is actually still growing faster than that of ibus. Developer interest in scim has mostly faded away both in Debian and upstream. My goal as maintainer is to keep the package usable for the benefits of its users. That means making sure the package is free of RC bugs, adheres to policy and submitted patches are eventually integrated. It does not include original development and repeated calls for it in the past were simply misguided. My co-maintainer requested to step down and I thank him for his support in the past. Because of my limited time and skills I prefer to maintain most of my packages in a team of at least two and thus would call for an interested individual to step forward to fill the gap. Any area that you can help would be appreciated and I would also be willing to do some limited mentorship for someone getting their feet wet in packaging software. I understand packaging reasonably well but I'm not a good coder, somebody with complimentary skillset would be the perfect match. The packaging work is published in http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/scim.git The package description is: Smart Common Input Method (SCIM) is an input method (IM) platform. Input methods are needed to enter complex characters in many non-latin languages. SCIM provides a common platform for various plugin modules and independent IM programs, as well as a set of modules and programs on its own. It is highly modularized and exposes abstract interfaces, so that plugin modules with different functions can easily communicate with each other. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: scim Source-Version: 1.4.13-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of scim, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libscim-dev_1.4.13-1_i386.deb to main/s/scim/libscim-dev_1.4.13-1_i386.deb libscim8c2a_1.4.13-1_i386.deb to main/s/scim/libscim8c2a_1.4.13-1_i386.deb scim-dev-doc_1.4.13-1_all.deb to main/s/scim/scim-dev-doc_1.4.13-1_all.deb scim-dev_1.4.13-1_all.deb to main/s/scim/scim-dev_1.4.13-1_all.deb scim-modules-socket_1.4.13-1_i386.deb to main/s/scim/scim-modules-socket_1.4.13-1_i386.deb scim_1.4.13-1.debian.tar.gz to main/s/scim/scim_1.4.13-1.debian.tar.gz scim_1.4.13-1.dsc to main/s/scim/scim_1.4.13-1.dsc scim_1.4.13-1_i386.deb to main/s/scim/scim_1.4.13-1_i386.deb scim_1.4.13.orig.tar.gz to main/s/scim/scim_1.4.13.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#625502: Inquiry re: adopting qt3
On Fri, May 25, 2012 at 11:51:10PM -0400, Jeff Licquia wrote: I'd like to ask to adopt Qt 3, entirely for the sake of the LSB. The LSB is working on removing Qt 3, but that effort won't be ready in time for wheezy, and I'd like for full LSB support to remain possible in Debian. What are your thoughts? I don't think this would take away from the release goal of ridding Qt 3 dependencies from Debian; it would be good, I think, to release with only LSB depending on Qt 3. I understand it's a C++ package of some complexity, and that I'd be responsible for analyzing security fixes, bugs, etc. on my own without upstream support from TrollTech. Hi Jeff, This might have been a good idea 1 year ago or even 6 months ago. Then we would have had time to get a team of interested people working on Qt3 with time to get into its inner workings. The fact is that Qt3 rotted in the Debian archive for one year with just QA uploads when it got in somebody's way (e.g porters uploads of Aurelien Jarno). This was a strong sign that it was better to remove the package. I started to work on the removal and things have been going smoothly, with about 80% of the work done. This has taken a significant amount of my time and others (developers, ftp-masters, etc). At this point, nominal LSB compliance is not a good reason to keep Qt3. Interested parties can always download it from snapshot.debian.org Today we are 2-3 weeks away from the wheezy freeze, and there's no time to get a team of people working on Qt3 with enough knowledge of the internals who can commit to this task for the next 3 years (or more). More importantly, maintaining any package that you won't be using is _never_ a good idea and in this case, you would even have to be upstream for it! I suggest we work on documenting how to get Qt3 from snapshots.debian.org If somebody wants to install Qt3 will have easy instructions to get it and they will be fully aware it is not supported anymore. YES. If you are more capable than me, you can copy required sources to virtualgl via debian/* and build it without requiring non-exisiong packahes. Do you have patch to address this in a short notice? For a person like me with less capability, uploads this package to provide required packages seems to be the easiest thing to do. build-depens on static library is not so complicated for binary image. I know it is not so useful for most wheesy system but this is useful in chroot. Does libjpeg-turbo8 implement the full v8 API ? As far as I understand some functions are stub. I do not know. For now, we only nned -dev package for building package with static library and *.h files. Fow wheesy, no one here, I expect to remove old libjpeg8. We just need to build virtualgl. Bug#610875: Initial version of the packages, in Debian Games Team repository
I've made an initial version of the package for version 0.9, and added it to the Debian Games Team SVN repository: http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-games/packages/trunk/dccnitghtmare/ The packages already compile and are playable, but there is still some work to do, though. I'll try to keep improving the package until it reaches debian-quality, but as I don't have too much spare time these days, It'll probably take me some time. Bug#674835: RFA: fuzzyocr -- spamassassin plugin to check image attachments
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the fuzzyocr package. The package description is: This Spamassassin plugin checks for specific keywords in image/gif, image/jpeg or image/png attachments, using gocr (an optical character recognition program). This plugin can be used to detect spam that puts all the real spam content in an attached image, while the mail itself is only random text and random html, without any URL's or identifiable information. Additionally to the normal OcrPlugin, it can do approximate matches on words, so errors in recognition or attempts to obfuscate the text inside the image will not cause the detection to fail. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
