Bug#686669: ITP: duprepare -- Prepare system backup volume sources to be processed by duplicity

2012-09-05 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

Hossam Hammady deb...@hammady.net writes:

 Package: wnpp
 Severity: wishlist
 Owner: Hossam Hammady deb...@hammady.net

 * Package name: duprepare
   Version : 0.1
Upstream Author : Hossam Hammady deb...@hammady.net
 * License : (GPL)
   Programming Lang: (Bash)
Description : Prepare backup volume sources to be processed by duplicity
duprepare prepares backup volume sources by creating an image
of files you need to backup. This image is then processed by
duplicity to push it to any backup target.

duplicity is a great program, however it is pain to prepare the backup image.

Using duprepare, you simply list all needed files and it will
take care of syncing them into the image. For complex tasks like
taking mysql database snapshots or ldap dumps, duprepare uses
custom scripts that will prepare the backup files and place
  them into the backup image.

Just in case, how does it compare to backupninja, already in the
archive, which has a duplicity backend ?

Thanks in advance.

Bug#686669: ITP: duprepare -- Prepare system backup volume sources to be processed by duplicity

2012-09-05 Thread Hossam Hammady
I didn't know about backupninja before. Basically it is the same idea, however,
duprepare does both backup and restore.
With backupninja backups are stored on backup volumes, with no easy way to
restore them.
With duprepare there are 3 scripts: duprepare-backup, duprepare-restore and
duprepare-cleanup. The restore script reverses everything (copying all files
back and running custom scripts with different modes) so that your system is
back exactly the same way.
There is a famous saying your backup is totally useless if you haven't tried
restoring it at least once, or something similar.
Anyway, thanks for telling me about backupninja.

Bug#662923: announcing package installer

2012-09-05 Thread Dmitry Smirnov
AI implementation was licensed as GPL-2+ with custom not-for-sale clause
after unfortunate accident when upstream was traumatised by someone who was
selling his work on apple store.

Rest of the code is licensed as GPL-2+.

As far as I understand, the implications are that we can't legally distribute
binaries if game is compiled with AI. Needless to mention that without AI the
game is hardly playable.

Also some of the images used by upstream may be non-free as well.

Upstream is unwilling to discuss licensing issue.

As workaround I've implemented the installer package which will download game
sources directly from SourceForge, build the package and install it.

Source package is available from

http://mentors.debian.net/package/fheroes2-pkg

adding MATE to the standard packages

2012-09-05 Thread Bob Frazier
Please consider adding MATE to the standard packages for Debian.
Although packages HAVE been made available here

  http://mate-desktop.org/install/#debian

it would be a LOT nicer if these were part of the debian package system.

Additionally, it would be even BETTER to install Mate in lieu of gnome 3
for all of the obvious reasons why (like NOT being forced to migrate to
something you don't like from something you do).

Please consider this. PLEASE! I am BEGGING YOU! Don't let the gnome
3 monster ruin Debian Linux!

Bug#569668: davmail ITP status update (Re: ITP: davmail)

2012-09-05 Thread Alexandre Rossi
Hi,

I see that libjackrabbit-java is now in Debian. How are you getting on
with libhtmlcleaner-java and, more pertinently davmail packaging?

I have a working package using Debian libraries instead of embedded ones :
-
http://sousmonlit.dyndns.org/~niol/apt/pool/main/libh/libhtmlcleaner-java/libhtmlcleaner-java_2.2-1~pre+1.dsc
-
http://sousmonlit.dyndns.org/~niol/apt/pool/main/d/davmail/davmail_3.9.9-1976-1~pre+1.dsc

I tested it as server and as desktop application that sits in the
tray. I tested only imap and smtp without SSL for the moment.

I have a few open issues on the packaging, but they are mostly easy to
fix, I just need advice :
- Include in pkg-java Git on alioth? guidance?
- Should I repack upstream source to get rid of embedded jars and dll
or should I finish debian/copyright in order to document all licenses?
I'm aware of the recent discussion about this on -devel, but I'm not
sure about the outcome.
- Should I keep debian/patches/base64-enc-dec which includes source
from javamail or should I complete javamail ITP and depend on javamail
instead of gnumail?
- How should I handle ~/davmail.log which get created when davmail is
run as a normal easier (desktop use)?
- And I'll be seeking a sponsor.

Any comment will be welcome. Thanks for reading,

Alex

Please, go ahead. There are some other points that we should work on, but no
showstopper (well, my private copy with FAAC and with mp4v2 *does* have
issues and is segfaulting in some ways, but I don't think that applies to

Let's get it past the NEW queue so that we can upload some other incremental
things in further uploads, until we have something in shape.

Niv, it would be nice if you could add the DMUA flag set to yes, so that I
can upload newer versions (I am a DM).

Fabian, would you mind writing/adapting a script to strip down windows
binaries etc. from the upstream package? I could do that, but I'm quite busy
blogging :) right now. :) (not, not really). :)

Avian is a lightweight virtual machine and class library designed
to provide a useful subset of Java's features, suitable for building
 self-contained applications.
 .
The VM is implemented from scratch and designed to be both fast and small.
 .
  - Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation for fast method execution.
  - Generational, copying garbage collection ensures short pause times and good
spatial locality.
  - Thread-local heaps provide O(1) memory allocation with no synchronization
overhead.
  - Null pointer dereferences are handled via OS signals to avoid unnecessary
branches.

2012-09-05 Thread Hossam Hammady
Good step forward. However, I believe verifying backups is not enough. You need
to create a virtual machine and restore your backup there to make sure
everything is actually in place. Without an automated script (like
duprepare-restore) it is really a big pain putting everything back. Please stay
tuned as I am currently writing the manpage and will be uploading the package
very soon on mentors.debian.net.

Thanks again for your followup.

for gerrit and I plan to patch it out for the first iteration. Since work
starts again
on monday I don't think that I'll come back to these packages in the next few
months.

parboiled depends on sbt for building which I also recently switched back to
RFP from
ITP. But the build is straightforward and it should be possible to build
parboiled with
ant/maven/make/shellscript/whatever.

Sorry that I could not help you here this time.

Regards,

Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro

Bug#685874: Pegdown packaging ?

Since pegdown is not a hard dependency of Gradle I might also just skip
as a first step to get Gradle back in shape.
