Bug#441292: allpackages.txt.gz no longer available. Replaced with broken link.
Package: www.debian.org Last week, and several before, I obtained a text list of packages for all current debian distributions. The address was http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpackages.en.txt.gz, or similar, depending on which distrubtion. Today, that didn't work. That address is now an error page. I checked the website. It seems you debian.org is the new debian.net. I found new links for what I want on the new http://packages.debian.org/stable/ page. (Note that the end slash for that page is required. That is another bug.) The links are http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpackages and http://packages.debian.org/stable/allpackages?format=txt.gz Both of these links are broken. I have been using packages.debian.net for some time. In a lot of areas, it is an improvement. It's not that important, but I always like having the original date. 2) No note on how big the files are. wget says Length: unspecified. Also not a big deal, but something I would like fixed. 3) A bigger problem. Every other line is virtual package provided by. It wasn't like that before. Here is an excpert: --- 3270-common virtual package provided by 3270-common (3.3.4p6-3.3) Common files for IBM 3270 emulators and pr3287 3dchess virtual package provided by 3dchess (0.8.1-12) 3D chess for X11 Yes. IMHO the root of the problem is the use of class=hidecss. The .hidecss
rule simply prevents rendering for all media types with display: none.
However, the rule for #pdeps ul.uldep only replaces bullets with
dep.gif on visual media types. For other media types (including aural),

I would suggest the following solution:
1) Replace these img class=hidecss with
span class=nonvisualdepends:/span
Putting an img in there and then suppressing its being displayed with
CSS is actually paradoxical... the only justification is compatibility
with browsers which do not support CSS at all, like lynx.
2) Introduce a rule to have .nonvisual rendered only for braille, embossed,
speech, tty:
@media handheld, print, projection, screen, tv {
.nonvisual { display: none; }
}
As usual, this is completely untested! :-)

From what I can see this doesn't change anything in normal browsers
and looks okay-ish in text-only browsers.
