The toolbar seems to appear and dissapear in its whole erratically. Any other idea? not at the moment. I'll take a look later today (my development machine is on Debian/testing, so the Xaw library should be the same). Bug#345409: New upgrade breaks login as there is no multikey anymore
* Denis Barbier [EMAIL PROTECTED] [060107 14:03]: On Sat, Dec 31, 2005 at 10:25:18AM +0100, Klaus Ethgen wrote: So please, if you break the default behavior of X to use shift-ralt as multikey then just allow the sysadmin to fix this bug by config!!! This setting was insane, Shift+AltGr was different from AltGr+Shift which is very confusing, so it is good to see that upstream dropped it. Of course we could put ralt_switch_multikey back in Debian, but if your keyboard has some spare keys, adding a compose: option would be much better. Spare keys are much better, but there are none on old keyboards. I also do not think it is very confusing, as it simple is the AltGr key with the shift key as modifier. E+shift is something different to shift+E, too. And as AltGr+Shift+anything is not bound to any meaning at all, there is nothing it could be confused too. Breaking the Shift-AltGr key as multikey is a major hassle, as suprisingly many people rely on it. I do not think it is sensible to make something an option instead of the default that many people rely on (so this is already a FAQ), while people not wanting it are unlikely to even notice it is activated. Bug#345914: xserver-xorg: Freeze on 82855PM, too
On Sun, 08 Jan 2006 the mental interface of Andre Timmermann told: Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-2 Followup-For: Bug #345914 Starting X freezes my PowerBook5,6 (radeon) completely. No net, no console. So I had to hard reset the machine. I tried the following: Recreating a xorg.conf by dpkg-reconfigure - no success Switching from ati(radeon) driver to fbdev - no success, but no freeze. Switching from 24 to 16 DefaultDepth + fbdev - no success, X shows the wm splashscreen with an cross cursor similar to the twm one but shuts down after a while. This might be considerable with a broken libpango at ppc, I am not sure yet. Installing libgl1-mesa-dri in the hope r300 is used with radeon driver - frozen machine. Bug#346553: xserver-xorg: Thinkpad middle button paste no longer working
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-1 Severity: normal Tags: experimental I was running the xorg-server from experimental that was version 6.8.99.900 that had the patch for middle button scroll and paste functionality for the Thinkpad. Updating /usr/X11R6/bin/X to symlink to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg seems to have solved the problem (although I also installed the nvidia-glx package, but I doubt this affected anything). It seems that the X - Xorg symlink was removed many months ago...what's the thinking there? Is it to encourage people to use Xorg directly? No... this should not have happened. It's something I must have overlooked when changing the xserver-xorg-dbg package to its current form. (Noticed by the choppy sound from my speakers. :-) The xserver uses almost all available cpu, I guess it is only the kernels safe guard (2.6) that lets other processes get some attention. I have to log in thru another computer to kill the X-process, only signal 9 helps. And then the screen keyboard are unusable so I hvae to reboot anyway. (Is there a way to restore them without rebooting?) This happens at most once a week or month, sometimes it has occurred twice a day, but that's very seldom. And I havn't been able to reproduce the problem. I'm using nvidias 7174-driver, but this problem has been around since I started using my nividia card with the xfree86 driver (at least 6629) so I'm very suspicous about the closed nividia driver. Re: Bug#345929: Problem with xserver-xorg_6.9.0.dfsg.1-1_i386.deb with ATI Technologies IncM22 [Radeon Mobility M300]
Hi all, After updating the packages and upgrading my system, xserver-xorg upgraded to version 6.9. After that I couldn't start X anymore. Downgrading to xserver-xorg_6.8.2.dfsg.1-11_i386.deb solves the problem, but since packages.debian is down for a while, I can't get the xserver-xorg_6.8.2.dfsg.1-11_i386.deb package to have X working again. Is there another way to get the package/solve the problem? Thanks, Halestino

Bug#345929: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-2: radeon: FireGL Mobility T2: whole machine locks hard after some minutes
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-2 Followup-For: Bug #345929 I see something which fits some of the other descriptions for bug #345929: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 worked perfect, after upgrade to 6.9.0 my IBM T42p regularly crashes hard (no SysRq, no ping, the whole thing is just frozen; kernel NMI-watchdog doesn't kick in, all I can do is power off). I tried kernels 2.6.14 and 2.6.15 with and without radeonfb, and I tried to disable acceleration and clock scaling for the radeon X driver. Nothing helps. Sometimes the crash happens already during xdm startup, sometimes it can take hours for the crash to happen, but usually it crashes within ten minutes after boot. If I use firefox or gvim the crash happens sooner than if I just use xterm + vim. If I grab a gvim window with the mouse and wiggle it around X is likely to crash within a minute. I tried using the 6.8.2 radeon driver with 6.9.0 but it seems the binary formats are incompatible? For the moment I work around this by using radeonfb + fbdev X driver. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/xfree86/X.roster: xserver-xorg /etc/X11/X target unchanged from checksum in /var/lib/xfree86/X.md5sum. The bug should be reproducible by anyone using ati driver: 1 - add 'Option NoAccel' to the device section of video card into xorg.conf 2 - restart Xorg 3 - launch any video player (I have personally tested it with totem, xine and mplayer -- the latter using xv output, x11 doesn't crash the server) I'm sure that many other programs are able to trigger this bug, but playing a video is the one by which I've discovered the problem. To make this happen, we preseed the configuration at boot time, and call dexconf to generate a new configuration. One of the values we want to set this way is the URL to the font server on the thin client network. This is at present not possible do to in dexconf. Please add a hidden debconf question to make it possible to specify the font server URL. This patch should make it possible. There are two changes needed to make this happen: - Use the debconf value of this template to add an extra FontPath if it is present. - Add new template $TEMPLATE_BASE/config/fontpath/fontserver to each server package (xserver-xorg and xserver-xfree86). This template should be identical for all packages implementing this feature. --- /usr/src/chroot-sid/usr/bin/dexconf 2005-08-10 11:14:39.0 +0200 +++ /tmp/dexconf.new2005-08-15 20:41:53.579316901 +0200 @@ -247,10 +247,21 @@ fetch $TEMPLATE_BASE/config/write_files_section if [ $RET = true ]; then + db_get $TEMPLATE_BASE/config/fontpath/fontserver + if [ -n $RET ] ; then +FONTSERVER=$RET + else +FONTSERVER= + fi exec 4$DEXCONFTMPDIR/Files cat 4 SECTION Section Files FontPathunix/:7100# local font server +SECTION + if [ -n $FONTSERVER ] ; then + echoFontPath\$FONTSERVER\ 4 + fi + cat 4 SECTION # if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic Here is a proposed debconf template for this variable: Template: xserver-xorg/config/fontpath/fontserver Type: string Description: Extra fontpath URL This is an internal (hidden) debconf question. I'll probably add it back in once the current slate of xlibs-dev bugs is resolved properly. Sound reasonable? Ok, as discussed on irc there are two criteria for re-adding this package: 1) We've completed the xlibs-dev transition without it. This serves as a forcing device for people to update their build-deps properly 2) Adding a lintian check for build-dep or dep on x-window-system-dev. This should help prevent this problem in the future. I'll also add a note in the package description that this package is meant entirely for users and not for packages to depend or build-depend on. - David Nusinow -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
