Bug#448863: solutiuon with default-x-server.template failed

2007-11-14 Thread mikes kikou
hello,

i tried doing what was written above :

 cat /path/to/default-x-server.template
/var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.templates
   dpkg --configure xserver-xorg

but it continued failing, and finally did not work for me. the
solution was to copy a backup xorg.conf file to /etc/X11/.

Bug#451254: compiz should depends on compiz-gnome|compiz-kde

2007-11-14 Thread Francesco Pedrini

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,
the compiz metapackage actually depends only on compiz-gnome but it
should depends on something like compiz-gnome|compiz-kde because now
it brings a lot of gnome packages that aren't really needed.

Thanks,

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+2
Severity: normal

The X session terminates randomly and throws me out to the kdm login
screen. I'm not running anything fancy, only a standard KDE
installation, plus the non-free Java and flash plugins for iceweasel
in a 32-bit chroot.

I have now installed xserver-xorg-core-dbg and will try to get a
better trace.

Bug#451264: xserver-xorg: Intel 915GM laptop hangs whole system somes when shutting down or switching to virtual terminal

2007-11-14 Thread Tom Epperly
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+3
Severity: normal

I've got a laptop with the following display:
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express
Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Occasionally, when shutting down X11 or when switch to a virtual
terminal (i.e., Ctrl-Alt-F1), my screen goes mostly black (with
several light gray boxes), and the whole system locks up. Once it's
locked up, I can't do anything other than force a power down. I've
tried Ctrl-Alt-Del, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, Ctrl-Alt-F1. The LEDs down
change when I press Caps lock. I haven't SysRq Raising
Elephants... because the laptop keyboard makes it hard.

The problem seems to occur more frequently when the machine has been
booted for longer periods of time.

sid xserver-xorg-video-savage problem?

2007-11-14 Thread Javier Vasquez
Hi,

On a Toshiba satellite 2800-S202 I've been running under debian
unstable for quiet a while, however Today I performed an aptitude
safe-upgrade, and I got a new version of xserver-xorg-video-savage.
This was a bad update... Actually I'm writing from a different
computer, since using X is way hard on the Toshiba as of now.

I tried to check for errors on /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but I didn't see
anything important. As I'm running from different computer it's kind
of hard to send the xorg.conf, but I don't think there's a problem
with it, since it was working quiet nice previous to the
safe-upgrade...

The only thing I'm sure is that the package upgrade provoked the
misbehavior. I'll try to describe what's going on as much as I can:

1.- Backgrond image doesn't show up under fluxbox. (no big deal)
2.- When moving the mouse, whatever there is lost and stays in black
after the mouse has passed.
3.- When poping menu up, nothing shows, I need to move the mouse to
wee what's there.
4.- When using mozilla for example, most of the time I can't see
anything, and passing the mouse over the pages doesn't help a thing...

So pretty much my X is useless at this point. I wanted to know if
there's a way to revert back to previous version, which I don't even
remember which was it As of now, the version I have after the
upgrade, according to aptitude, is:

1:2.1.3-4

Which is the same one showing up under:

http://packages.debian.org/source/sid/xserver-xorg-video-savage

So I don't think there's another upgrade pending for this package...
Just in case, lspci for the vga controller shows:

S3 Inc. 86C270-294 Savage/IX-MV (rev 13)

I'm using fbDev, since when not, then I can't even see the menu when
passing the mouse nearby... Please le me know if there's a way I can
revert the package version, maybe using the testing one? Or if
there's already a report and there are nads working on the
misbehaviors, :)

Thanks a lot,

Javier

You shouldn't have any conflict like this. 2.1.3-3 and 2.1.3-4 have
similar packaging. It should work if you just download 2.1.3-3 from
snapshot.debian.net as explained earlier and install it with dpkg -i

As explained earlier, we already have #440095 which discusses the

Bug#451293: xorg: mass bug filing for cross build support

2007-11-14 Thread Neil Williams
Package: xorg
Version: 7.3+3
Severity: wishlist

User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

As part of the long term mass bug filing for cross building support,
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/11/msg00116.html), I've
prepared this patch for debian/rules.

The cross building support in Debian has been recently rewritten -
particularly in respect of how environment variables and overrides are
handled - so this patch is now needed to allow xorg to correctly
identify the cross compiler.

Bug#451315: x11-xserver-utils: [xset] cant set the acceleration parameters of second mouse

2007-11-14 Thread Nahuel Greco
Package: x11-xserver-utils
Version: 7.3+1

This was tested on a laptop whose main pointer device is a touchpad. When
you plug an USB mouse, you can't set the acceleration parameters for it,
because all the mouse acceleration parameters that you set using xset will
change
only the touchpad behaviour. xset needs a way to specify which pointer device
you are referring to, so making possible to change the parameters of _all_ the
pointer devices, _independently_.

Can you try installing 1:2.1.3-3 without changing any other package?
  It is available from
  http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/09/17/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-savage/

  Brice

Yeap, that did the trick, after reverting back to 1:2.1.3-3 I got X
running as it was before, with no problems... Somehow 1:2.1.3-4 is
crashed, at least for this savage card under this Toshiba laptop...

 So what's next?

BTW, I'll have to see how to prevent this package update on aptitude,
so if someone can enlighten me that'd be great

Easy on aptitude, I marked the version I wanted to be hold with =,
and then next upgarade didn't attempt to update the package, :)... So
what's missing is what's next, :)...

Thanks a lot,

Javier

Bug#449089: xserver-xorg: Auto detection fails on Thinkpad X31

It looks like in this config file you enabled fbdev while in the old one
you didn't have this option set. Does the autogenerated config work when
you remove that option or just say no to the question during
  dpkg-reocnfigure?

Indeed, the auto-generated xorg.conf works if UseFBdev is not enabled.

Does this indicate a bug in radeonfb, shall I report it to Linux kernel
 bugzilla?

I don't remember if fbdev mode switches used to work in the past.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to. You a quick glance at the code,
this is most likely an xserver driver problem rather than a kernel problem.
I'll double check to make sure, but I think the bug probably should remain
here for now, possibly being forwarded upstream. Michel probably has a lot
more insight to this bug than anyone else though.
