Bug#538868: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: black screen with the driver radeon on a card hd4570
On Mon, 2009-07-27 at 17:22 +0100, Adrien wrote: Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Version: 1:6.12.2-3 Justification: renders package unusable Severity: grave I am trying to use the driver radeon on HD4570, but I have only a black screen and I can't switch to terminals with ctrl+alt+1. I can't access at all to gdm. I have used the Xorg from unstable, and both kernel 2.6.26 and 2.6.30, But I have the same result. For all my test I have used the same Xorg.conf (except for the line « Driver fglrx of course). generated by the non-free ATI driver. Bug#465694: Error in I830WaitLpRing() on 915GM (thinkpad X41)

Bug#486507: libx11-6: Locking assertion failure with vmware-server-console
Hi, Got the same problem as described here... (Lenny 5.0r1). After some search, I found that the dependency of gtkhtml3.14 which actually resolves the issue is : gnome-icon-theme. After installing it, no need to deal with libX11 in wrapper-gtk24.sh anymore. Cheers, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? So when you're trying to use the free drivers, you're sure the fglrx kernel module never gets loaded, and there are no messages as above in dmesg? However, the two Xorg.log I have attached seems to use the free drivers (radeon and radeonhd) and the only trace of fglrx I find in these files are: Yes, that's what the second item above refers to. The X server loading any component installed by fglrx (note not all of them have fglrx in the name) has definitely caused problems for others trying to use the free drivers. Should I test again, with the fglrx driver and the package firmware-linux desinstalled or it is not necessary ? firmware-linux will be useful with the free drivers and shouldn't harm otherwise, but you really need to make sure fglrx is completely out of the picture when trying the free drivers. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer |http://www.vmware.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. For now assuming it's a 3D driver issue, reassigning. Attaching output of glxinfo. Thanks. I don't see anything wrong. How do the framerate and CPU usage compare when running /usr/lib/xscreensaver/hypertorus -delay 0 -fps ? With DRI fps is pretty much constant around 8.0 Hmm, that's pretty low, I'm getting around 40 fps on an RV350. It's no wonder it is slow. Even rendering by a Celeron CPU is at times faster than what my GPU shows. That's weird though, your GPU should be at least about as fast as mine. BTW, you can force the swrast driver by setting the environment variable LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 even when the DRI is enabled. With this option fps ranges from 7.5 to 12 depending on object view angle. These are values in fullscreen and no delay. Both cause 100% system load but the DRI one causes system load and the software one causes user load. It might be interesting to find out where the CPU time is spent with hardware acceleration. It might be another unrelated DRI problem because in xscreeensaver-demo the CPU is almost unused and the animation is still slow. It's actually quite interesting, though. Turning on the fps display makes the system time go almost 100% even in the demo. That may be because the 3D driver doesn't accelerate glBitmap(), so the FPS text is rendered in software. I wonder how I could find where the time is spent. If it is system time it is spent in kernel, right? E.g. oprofile can profile the kernel as well if it has access to the uncompressed vmlinux binary. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer |http://www.vmware.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Maybe others can help with that. 3°/ I boot in single user mode, backup the Xorg.log, and reinstall the fglrx from the ATI package (not the debian package), and reboot again. FWIW, I strongly recommend against installing it unpackaged, that's more or less asking for problems like above. Bug#539090: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Extreme slowness after upgrade from 2.7.1-1
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.8.0-1 Severity: normal Certain drawing operations seem to be extremely slow after a recent upgrade from 2.7.1-1. I notice this in firefox or in okular (KDE's PDF viewer), but it's most obvious, oddly, in some of the options from the game 'loopy' from sgt-puzzles, in the settings with lots of diagonal lines. For instance, 'loopy 9x9t4' takes about 45 seconds to start; this is new behaviour since the upgrade. I'm using a 915GM on a HP nc6220 notebook, with a 1400x1050 display. I set my virtual screen size to 1600x1200 since I sometimes use an external monitor with that resolution. I notice the slowness whether or not using the external monitor. (I'll note that this upgrade did also fix two different display glitches: in the older versions, text mode used to get corrupted, and the screen would occasionally flicker momentarily.) -- Package-specific info: /var/lib/x11/X.roster does not exist. /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist.
